Career Plan Upon graduating in less than a year reality has reality has set in that I will be starting a whole new life in a more professional manner with a company and showing the world what I can do and will be doing for the rest of my life. I have a lot of things I want to do with a degree and certificate so I am not 100% sure what one I would like to use more. I have looked into different things I can do with a graphic designs degree, but still haven’t completely picked what is best suited for me and what I can be the most successful at. When I graduate, I will have a degree in graphic communications and a certificate in digital photography. Digital photography has been something I have been interested in since I was in middle school and …show more content…
I wanted to do that so I could help myself with my photography and I didn’t just have my pictures, I could go and make my pictures into something amazing and wonderful and to share it with the world. Now that I have gotten through the graphic communications program I am enjoying working with all the software and how it is working, making logos, banners, flyers, working with clients. It is an interesting career field, but it is amazing and I wouldn’t trade it. I feel as if I am in a good spot to start at the bottom of any job and work my way up the chain and one day be put in charge. The way I look at it is that no matter where you go for a job you will have to work your way to the top and that will in case you having to do jobs you may already know how to do and do great at them but the more you work at it and show the boss you can do anything and to a high quality that will them that you are ready to move one step closer to the …show more content…

How did you know this was the right career for you? Did you consider any other careers?
Following college graduation, I desired a purposeful career but was initially unsure which profession to pursue. I
My long term goals are to work while I pursue my bachelor's degree. Currently, I am interested in working in either pediatric cardiology or labor and delivery. Perhaps getting certifications in one of these areas. I know that once I am in the field I may change my mind and go in a completely different direction but since I can’t see that far down the road this is my rough outline. I am so excited and nervous to get
My five year plan is to get a diploma in early childhood education and medical office administration. I would also like to get some sort of educational achievement in art that will allow me to make art for others. I have chosen this plan because it fits my personality. I enjoy and love being around kids, like the medical field, and love art. I could have a job in a pediatrician's office where I see young children on a daily basis and if a room needed to be painted I could do the painting. In order to achieve these goals I need to focus on what I can do now and take advantage of opportunities. I have been taking art classes ever since I started high school to meet my art goal. I am now a senior and I decided to take this summer online course, just in case I could not get into the early childhood education program offered at my school. I did not want to graduate high school without having any knowledge about early childhood education. I think this is a huge step in working towards getting my early childhood diploma. During the course of my high school career, I have also taken classes within the health science field and will be taking two classes required to get a diploma in medical office administration. As of right now I am not working but have tried applying for a job in a day
Every fear I had resolved itself and for one of the first times in my life I felt I was in the right place. Then the question came back, what are you going to do with this degree? I thought about teaching, and remembered how the moments I spent in the art room left a lifelong impact on my life. That was it, I believed my purpose in life was to teach youth about the powers of art and signed up for a semester full of teaching courses. Half way through the semester I was told by a professor, “the arts will be cut from public schools so don't waste your
I started off with architecture. That was what I studied. Then things changed in my life, and I decided years later that it was time to try something else. So I decided to become a graphic designer. Then I came to Canada and worked as a graphic designer in a company for years. But I was getting uninspired, and I knew I needed a change, but I didn't know what to do. It was a point
I have had two part-time jobs involving computer related work, in which I have been able to bring art influences into. When working for Retail Futures, an e-commerce company based in Malvern, I designed their corporate image, and websites for clients such as Coalport and Parcel Force. More recently I have taken another job with a more technical slant, for another e-commerce firm, eplexus. I still do design work, in which I have designed websites and images for "Highwaycode.com", and Anglo Digital a successful venture capitalist firm. Alongside my practical experience, I am also studying Computing at my current college, which aids me to learn the fundamentals of computer usage and programming, an area that I am interested in.
Educational Goals: Education is extremely important part of my past, present, and future goals. I currently hold an Associate of Applied Science in Graphic Design Media. I have found that an A.A.S Degree does not go as far al I originally intended in the Rochester, MN area and furthering my education will be a necessity for my future career goals. Over the past 2 years I have been working on my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at the Minnesota School of Business Rochester campus. I am currently a senior with 3 quarters left before a spring graduation. After a June graduation, I plan on taking a summer quarter break. After summer break I will either continue on at MSB for my Masters in Business Administration with a Minor in Marketing or transferring the University of Minnesota for my Masters in Adult Education. After my Masters Degree is complete I will decide at that time if I wish to continue on and achieve my Ph.D.
I wanted to show everyone what I was capable of achieving, and that no one could stop me from reaching and even surpassing my goals. I would definitely make the same decision again because I have learned so much from this experience. I learned skills in and about business, design, how to build a website, how to make business cards, and so much more. This experience has not only been a great way to make money on the side, but also a great example of what the real world is like for an adult since no one knew that they were hiring a teenager when they hired me to photograph their events. Overall, I am very happy about the decisions that I have made, and this determination shows that I am always willing to learn and push my limits in the pursuit of achieving happiness in life.
Working hard will get you places. Good choices will get you places. How important can it be? You must take advantage of what you have, always based on what you wish to achieve.
Prior to this course, I knew photography was a part of my every day life. After experiencing this course, I know I knew little about photography. Photography is definitely part of my life, but as I reflect on my sixteen-week progression, I realize that everyone can take a picture but “taking a photograph” as an art. My initial thoughts were that with smart phones we are all “photographers” sharing and it has become part of our visual culture, but not all photos deserve appreciation. Although I believed I had an eye for interesting things and liked to shoot pictures from angles or interesting features, I realized that knowing more about the functions and diversity a quality camera could provide was missing. Photography has been a vital part of my personal history and now will be a bigger part of my life as I am armed with knowledge and experience with angles, lighting, settings and Photoshop so the memories I capture will have a stronger purpose. Point and shoot has transitioned into a passion for finding interest in a subject and utilizing my knowledge to create artful photos. Ordinary or standard shots will be a part of my past. Reflecting on my interest in photography as a potential path for my future, or a part of an overall career choice, I realized that if I continue on a public relations or marketing path, photography will be a critical part of my career. Photography 181 has given me invaluable information that will be carried on into my future in both business and personal arenas. My place in photography will continue to include sports action photography as I am an athlete and appreciate these, as well as in editorial or brand image photography as part of my career.
What skills must you attain? How have your skills been rated thus far? What is required of a professional portfolio/demo reel in your industry?
In summary, throughout my life many career choices have crossed my mind. I have tried being a stay-at-home mom and a hospital employee. I am working on trying computers. The path I chose in computers is yet to be decided but the opportunities are vast. My current path leaves me many opportunities in healthcare and computers but the possibilities do not stop there. With further education I could still do anything.
Traveling and seeing new cultures and capturing every moment of it. Photography has to do with creativity and the practice of taking and processing photos. I chose photography because it matched my personality and all of the things I wanted in a career. Photography is the best career choice based on the work environment, education and training, important qualities needed, salary, and job outlook.
To this day I still wish I could play football. On a positive note, I found out in my senior year of high school that computers and graphic design sparked my interest. I dabbled in Photoshop. I started off by just editing pictures and doing other little projects. This highly benefited me since I would be going in a related major going into college. When I graduated, I waited a year to go to college because I had to save up money to pay for tuition. So after a year of working at Chick-fil-A, I finally had enough money to put myself through college. I am currently majoring in Web Development. It has been a stressful, but an amazing experience. I have one more semester left and I’ll be able to start my career. I’m ready to begin my future, making money, and do what I love. The web development field is a booming career with
