To start, the characters and situations present in a novel is a reflection of the writer themselves which would eventually become an inspiration for a plot for a story. The first day of the semester I had been asked “who you wanted to emulated in my daily life”. This was a question which was not harder to answer than expected, that needed to be questioned to determine the answer. A common idea that was discussed in the course: “Writing one's problems onto paper is an easy way to find the solution.” by transferring one life(or problems) to a medium which in this case writing it analyzing it in another way. This is important as changing the perception in any scenario is beneficial more so for literature since both the writer and reader are the audience who act as the observers being able to question unbiasedly relating these situations encountered by the characters(fictional or not) to their own experiences. Following this advice I frequently would write down problems in order to visualize data presented from a particular situation whether it is to make a schedule to figure out how to make my own time more productive, personal situations and how one would reasonably react in a situation but most recently what I wanted out of a Post-Secondary Education while filling my applications online. Having to determine the next five years of my life while determining what would be the best option for my future. To find this I made a list of what I wanted from this experience. Upon making this list, comparing it to my selection I was able to determine what computer program would be the right fit. Literature can also be a reflection of a writer at a given moment of time as is a representation of the thoughts and feelings of an individual. An ex... ... middle of paper ... ...e as generation follows generation like a kind of procession. If you walk off the possession- forget everything that has been done before you and forget history, culture and that sort of thing-you are reducing yourself to the same position as the other animals who do not have the gift of literacy. Like the great apes. And you have to start all over again. And to me, that kind of thing is a very great folly.”(Cogswell 47) being able to learn from the mistakes of others though literature is a valuable tool. I hope to contribute to this system by making developments in the area of computer science. I wish to pursue subject as this field is growing with still more software that can be created as computers with more powerful hardware is being developed. That is why I believe literature is the backbone of civilization as even today is the primary method of teaching others.
The first writing project I was assigned in this class was an analysis of the film, Gran Torino. During class, I learned there was so much more to the movie than what we see; there was a meaning behind every little thing from the clothes to the hair to even the cars on the side of the street. It all meant something. The key features of an literary analysis include “an arguable thesis, careful attention to the language, attention to patterns or themes, and a clear interpretation (Norton Field Guide 85-86).” Critical thinking is an important skill, not just behind a desk, but also in the real world. The second writing project was a workplace writi...
As a final point, literature informs humanity about these types of topics proven in The Book Thief with friendship, courage and perseverance. It teaches the readers that friendship relies on trust between two people and mentally help a person to live a continuing life. It also demonstrates that with courage, people will overcome that fear of doing things they have never thought of doing, but will face the fear of the outcome. Further, with perseverance, anyone can feel like they can accomplish the impossible and thrive to be successful. Perhaps, since we humans educate ourselves mostly from literature. It is the only piece of advice we can take and learn our valuable lessons from.
Many people think that reading more can help them to think and develop before writing something. Others might think that they don’t need to read and or write that it can really help them to brainstorm things a lot quicker and to develop their own ideas immediately (right away). The author’s purpose of Stephen King’s essay, Reading to Write, is to understand the concepts, strategies and understandings of how to always read first and then start something. The importance of this essay is to understand and comprehend our reading and writing skills by brainstorming our ideas and thoughts a lot quicker. In other words, we must always try to read first before we can brainstorm some ideas and to think before we write something. There are many reasons why I chose Stephen King’s essay, Reading to Write, by many ways that reading can help you to comprehend, writing, can help you to evaluate and summarize things after reading a passage, if you read, it can help you to write things better and as you read, it can help you to think and evaluate of what to write about.
Experiences such as these compelled me to start writing. Writing became my outlet for empathizing with others and valuing different ways of life. Also, I enjoyed stringing together various plot elements to form an articulate story much- as I would soon learn- how doctors consider several factors when deducing a diagnosis. Ultimately, my chief goal in writing was to understand and define
The point the author, Russell Baker, is making in his essay, “Writing for Myself,” is quite evident. When Mr. Fleagle, Baker’s English teacher, assigned an informal essay to be completed as homework, Baker immediately became baffled by the daunting task. Though reluctant to start, Baker knew that it he had to swallow his animosity toward writing and select a topic to write on.
Authors examine many different sources to become better writers. By drawing on the writings of another author one can enhance their current writing style and also learn new ways to write. The plot, conflict throughout the story and the relationships between the characters are some examples of the parts of a story that an author can look at.
Writing does not only affect the mind of the writer, but it also has an effect on the reader too. When an action occurs in a story, the motor cortex in the reader’s brain will become active. If the story contains details that explain a feeling, our sensory response will become active. As if the reader were actually the character in the story (“How
Successfully forming your characters in fiction stories sets the basis for the story to unfold. In D.H Lawrence’s “The Rocking-Horse Winner” the tone of the main character is described as young and ambitious. His physical characteristics go along with this, and the conflict that he encounters is perfect for his tone and character. In Graham Greene’s “The Destructors” the main character is a bit different. His tone is more quite and stern. The conflict that he encounters is different and his motivations are as well. The characterization of each is revealed differently. In “The Destructors the main character and his motivation is portrayed slowly whereas in “The Rocking-Horse Winner” the tone, conflict and motivation of the main character is brought to our attention immediately.
If the nineteenth century was an era of the Industrial revolution in Europe, I would say that computers and Information Technology have dominated since the twentieth century. The world today is a void without computers, be it healthcare, commerce or any other field, the industry won’t thrive without Information Technology and Computer Science. This ever-growing field of technology has aroused interest in me since my childhood. After my twelfth grade, the inherent ardor I held for Computer Science motivated me to do a bachelors degree in Information Technology. Programming and Math, a paragon of logic and reasoning, have always been my favorite subjects since childhood.
...ewed things while writing the novel. It is very important to examine the context of when something is written and this helped with that immensely.
This perfectly holds true for me in the world of Computer Engineering where novel ideas are not a novelty. It is this novelty that entices me to this field and gives me a deep sense of professional pride. In this context, I would like to pursue my graduation in Computer Engineering, which not only supplements the knowledge that I possess but also provides a strong platform for my future career goals.
When thinking about writing, people don’t often think about the technicalities behind it. When thinking about what they want to write, there are few things they think about; what they are writing about, and who they are addressing. Genre and Audience are one of the most important things an author can think about. Rhetorical situations are something that a writer doesn’t have to worry about too much because it is simply the way that people communicate. It becomes even more tricky when writing about yourself. Sometimes in can be hard to bring up things about yourself. Other times it’s just hard to bring up a person’s past, and to even think about it. As a writer, you have to be able to put distance from yourself, and have a clear mind when doing it. One of the most important things that every person needs to have when writing is a clear mind. Leena Sen, author of a Communication Skills book, states “Behind good writing lies the power of clear thinking. Writing becomes cluttered and is devoid of clarity of meaning when the thought process goes awry. Clear thinking leads to clear writing” (177). Writing is not an easy skill for everyone, there are a few roadblocks that get in the way when writing.
At the dawn of the information age, to be young, as Wordsworth said in another context, is very heaven. Getting to know what goes inside computers, the engines of the Information Technology revolution, and knowing how to work with them enables one to understand the technology that makes it all possible. Understanding this, I chose to do my undergraduate study in Electronics and Communications engineering.
We were asked to specify our personalized outcomes in the beginning of the year, one of the most important parts of this for me was critical thinking. Critical thinking is an easy phrase to understand however is a more difficult process to actually follow through with. I wanted to find multiple senses of the text. Seminar taught me skills in which I have become more comfortable with analyzing a text. For example, through asking questions and annotating my book I have been able to understand more of the author’s intentions. In class when discussing Virginia Woolf’s “ How to read a book” I added more than twenty annotations to my book during the discussion. Along, with many of my peers I was at first dreading to read this essay because I thought this was going to be a borin...
Being well acknowledged about the above saying has pushed me a mile further for every aspect of my life. The four year engineering course in Information Technology has always been a beautiful experience and has inspired me to put the knowledge into my Masters degree. This would allow me to enhance my knowledge about technology and its pros and cons and the guidance I would need. Gone are those days when man had to slog for simple works, he has advanced into boundaries which are unimaginable and has made his life easy, being an essential part of such an advancement has always been my motive. To attain my goal, my first priority would be in the field of research which will consist experiencing the applications in the real world steered by comprehensive know-how about technology. Technology has prevailed and casted its spell to parts unknown and now has been imbibed into man.
