The Clash The Clash was an English punk rock band that was formed in 1976. They were known for bringing controversy into the world of rock and roll with their politics, lyrics and the image they created. They were often referred to as “the only band that matters” in the punk rock world. Unfortunately, the band broke up in 1986 because of drug addiction and drama between band mates, but they made a lot of great music during the time they were together, earning them a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in January of 2003. They were also listed number 28 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 100 greatest artists of all time. The Clash has had many popular songs, but three that really stand out are London Calling, Should I Stay or Should I Go, and Rock the Casbah. To start with, in the music video for London Calling, it appears to be raining really hard and they all seem to be kind of angry. This all makes sense because the song is basically a political rant about the nuclear error that occurred in early 1979 and the possible flooding of the Thames River in London. Some people say that this song was preemptive to Mick Jones leaving The Clash, but the band denies this. The video for London Calling is very dark and angry, while the both the videos for Should I Stay or Should I Go and Rock the Casbah are much happier seeming videos. In all of the videos they are wearing very ‘80’s outfits, but in Should I Stay or Should I Go and Rock the Casbah their outfits are much brighter and more colorful, whereas the outfits in London Calling are all very dark to go along with the more gloomy, apocalyptic feel of the song and

Without the images in the video some many things could have been interpreted from the song itself. Before I watched the video I just thought the author was talking about war, and specially the wars America was fighting at the time of the song’s release. The music in combination with the instrumentals and video create a piece of art that enlightens the soul.
The song is a showing of nondiegetic sound which the film uses to set the tone for the movie. The song is also ironic due to the nature of the film dealing with homosexual families and marriage. This is why they refer to it as an Audience of One, because they are the only ones watching what is happening. In the music video, the child smashes the band, who are the last people left to complain about his actions, to show how Bush got rid of his problems when someone went against him or his political views. They speak of being vampires running away from a thousand burning suns. In this the thousand burning suns is the world, while the vampires are the American people. The whole music video is in remembrance of the little girl Aiyana Jones and to show its audience the injustice it served in America (Alexis 5). The music video does not focus on the lyrics, but focuses on a whole different story. Although the music video is about the war between the government and drugs, the lyrics and the music video share a mutual message and that is to seek peace not only in the community, but also in our minds. Today, there have been issues on police brutality and unlawful arrests. This music video really illustrated different point of views of different people such as the victim and the policemen. Beatlemania began in Britain on October 13, 1963 with a televised appearance at the London Palladium, and then exploded in the United States following the appearances of the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964.
In early 1970 the band Queen was formed. Freddie Mercury on vocals, Brian May on guitar, Roger Taylor on drums and Mike Gross on bass. They had known each other for years. All living in the town of Kensington in Britain, sometimes even living together. Brian and Roger belonged to a band called Smile, and Freddie was a very talented vocalsit playing for the band Ibex. They decided to join forces, to better themselves, and their chances of obtaining fame and fortune. After a few months with only a few gigs Mike Gross left the band. He was replaced by Barry Mitchell, who only played a few gigs with them. After a few short months they were looking for their third bass player. Roger, was at a party one night and was introduced to John Deacon, an electronics major at the University of London and a good bass player. The two hit it off, and Deacon became the new member of Queen.

Their unique sound formed the basis of rock and roll. The band had a huge influence on British music through things such as their fashion, fusion of obscure genres, and attitude. Over the course of the last fifty years, The Rolling Stones unique history, sound, and overall look still has an influence on modern British bands.

Crosby, Stills, and Nash or CSN in short is a “super-group” who was formed from three big bands in the 1960s, “The Byrds”, “Buffalo Springfield”, and “The Hollies”. The group later in 1969 expended with Nill Young and became CSNY. Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young released their first album in 1969 with two big hits, “Marrakesh Express”, and “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes”. Their songs convey a strong emotional truths, social awareness and equality. Their song “Helplessly Hoping” from that album describes their persona; Along with the elements of their music, and tune that fit in so well in the song, which emphasizes the meaning of the words they try to convey, and their message about the love of two people.
