Two years ago, before moving to the United States, I have lived in a place of anger and years of economic recession. Consequently, the people calling it a crisis. The community was in a position of desperation and anxiety, changing the way people behave and treat each other. In a situation where I just had the desire to be stress-free and able to have freedom and relief. Thinking already about my future, I didn't see myself growing up in a family where I would not have the chance of living life to the fullest. About 24 months ago, Puerto Rico was my home. It changes your way of thinking when you see your peers falling apart because of government corruption, crime, and economic depression. The way you think makes you believe that sometimes On the other side, I felt like there was a lack of pride for my own island. The love for your own culture and manifestations of human intellectual achievement suddenly stopped appearing. Frequently people left Puerto Rico because of the slower economic improvements and higher crime rates. Watching my friends leave because they would not have the chance to attend a ranked college in Puerto Rico or even having the ability to be hired for a job. Furthermore, knowing that I have become a "new" person after years of desperation, it all gave a bright light to the path that I was walking through 2 years ago before my family decided to move to the United States. To have the opportunity to now live in one of the safest cities in the U.S. after years of not feeling safe anywhere, it gives my family the greatest strength and calmness that I have ever seen. I have learned that sometimes life wants to test you and guide you into a state of confusion, desperation, and anger. But, the only way to overcome this is by not looking back and giving up.
