Scott Adams once said, “We don 't always have an accurate view of our own potential. I think most people who are frightened of public speaking and can 't imagine they might feel different as a result of training. Don 't assume you know how much potential you have. Sometimes the only way to know what you can do is to test yourself.” This quote exemplifies the importance of public speaking and stresses the importance of how practice makes perfect. Without practice, we lose confidence in ourselves which prevents us from pushing forward. Therefore, this quote affirms that a speaker isn 't born, they are made. This course has helped me improve my confidence in public speaking, helped me create a proper outline in order to create a well written speech,
I feel that throughout the semester I have thoroughly worked on each of these goals. I enjoyed the vocabulary assignments and really has improved the way I write and speak. I also feel that because we had multiple speeches throughout the term, I was able to practice writing different outlines for different kinds of speeches. I finally feel comfortable writing any of speech and present it with confidence. This has truly helped me in my own self confidence and for that I am so grateful. For my future classes in college I will be able to present a project without getting anxiety, organizing my thoughts properly, and maintain good posture and eye contact with my audience. Before this class, I would freeze during speeches, forget what I planned on saying and used verbal fillers when I felt nervous. I would always ask to present my project last in order to calm my nerves. However, during this semester I really tried to take myself out of my comfort zone in order to really work on my goals for this semester. This semester I tried to almost always raise my hand to present my speech first even if I felt uncomfortable. I tried to always stand straight and force myself to look at the audience and “fake it until I make it.” I feel that Amy Cuddy 's advice really worked for me. At home while I would practice a speech I would envision in my mind presenting a speech with the most confidence and eventually I felt as though I made it toward my
