As years have passed by, many new and some continued conflicts have become relevant and significant. Those conflicts cause people who are concerned to desire to speak up and stand up for what they believe in. The debate is whether these people should be able to speak up on a public setting and state their case. Whether they should possess the ability to freely protest or not, depends on if their argument will be detrimental or beneficial to the minds of a multitude of the population. This process of deciding the worth of a speech should consist of a group of experts who are concerned with the topic at hand. Now, I insist that experts of the subjects of speeches should decide the fate of these discourses, because they understand better than any other person whether that speech will be harmful or helpful to …show more content…
First off, if a speech receives derogatory feedback, then the organization or group that allows for the deliverance of this speech will most likely be held accountable and oppressed by those who were provoked by the message. Secondly, there are a great amount of human beings who listen to the first thing they hear or are easily swayed towards a point, and if what they witness from a discourse indoctrinates them, then that could affect their lives forever. This affect could and has proven to be negative as we can observe through protests and uprisings of sorts. Lastly, if these negative ideas are dispersed and become popular, then followers of these concepts could begin to act radically and irrationally, which leads to disarray and pandemonium amongst innocent bystanders. This disorder can be witnessed in today’s world on various accounts. For these reasons we require people who understand specific subjects to a great extent to decide whether that respective subject is worth the risk of being heard by the
Throughout American history, important, credible individuals have given persuasive speeches on various issues to diverse audiences.
Peter, Sagal. “Should There Be Limits on Freedom of Speech?” 25 March. 2013. PSB. PBS.com 14 Nov.
Freedom of speech has been a controversial issue throughout the world. Our ability to say whatever we want is very important to us as individuals and communities. Although freedom of speech and expression may sometimes be offensive to other people, it is still everyone’s right to express his/her opinion under the American constitution which states that “congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or the press”. Although this amendment gave people the right express thier opinions, it still rests in one’s own hands as how far they will go to exercise that right of freedom of speech.
Free speech gives the government an opportunity to listen to what the people want in a peaceful manner. When taking a peaceful approach and creating an improved system, the likelihood of the government responding and making changes becomes
While the government will attempt to control you, and generate all the decisions they think are right, the people need to stand against them, for the reason that they need to think for themselves and speak up in order for them to have their freedom. Each speaker challenges the listeners to think for themselves instead of letting the government think for them. However, each speaker uses different concepts on how to convince the people to genuinely think for themselves. Furthermore, they show the audience on how to resist the government. Thoreau and Gandhi had similar ways on why and how to resist the government.
Imagine a time when one could be fined, imprisoned and even killed for simply speaking one’s mind. Speech is the basic vehicle for communication of beliefs, thoughts and ideas. Without the right to speak one’s mind freely one would be forced to agree with everything society stated. With freedom of speech one’s own ideas can be expressed freely and the follower’s belief will be stronger. The words sound so simple, but without them the world would be a very different place.
This conclusion rests upon the framework that free speech has three dimensions: production and distribution; comprehension; and attention and consideration. In other words, free speech requires that a speaker have the opportunity to communicate thoughts and ideas to an audience. Furthermore, free speech necessitates that an outside agent does not prevent the audience from understanding, giving attention...
In life, we rarely have the chance for a do-over, but I feel like returning to college is mine. Throughout high school, my grades were never above average and until about a couple of years ago I considered myself to be unintelligent. What I failed to see was my level of commitment. Once I began applying myself, the grades earned reflected that. This concept coincides to my public speaking ability. Many students, including myself, walk into a speech class thinking that it will be the Easy A of the semester and quite frankly I devoted a good amount of time and hard work to earn my A’s and B’s for this course. Overall, my public speaking growth in terms of listenability were influenced by the following: the strategy keys in correctly engaging the audience; the structure keys appropriate for a speech versus a paper; the support keys by continually engaging the audience; and finally the style keys by practicing the use of body language and reducing the verbal junk.
As Plato once said, “Opinion is the medium between knowledge and ignorance”. From talk radio to television shows, from popular magazines to Web blogs, ordinary citizens, political figures, and entertainers express their opinions on a variety of topics. These technological advances and social media allows us to foster and explore our democratic right under the First Amendment (freedom of speech) to publicly discuss issues and offer opinions from different perspectives. As everyone’s opinion will differ from the next person, having a wide range of opinions can indirectly educate those who do not know anything about the topic and inspire them to research further into that topic.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words and can tell a thousand tales. Just what exactly is this saying? (Visual of a bad snap shot… finger in shot)
Freedom of speech has many positive things, one of which is the help it gives on decision-making. Thanks to freedom of speech it is possible to express personal ideas without fear or restraints; therefore, all the perspectives and options will be on the table, giving people more opportunities to choose from. Nevertheless, everything in life has a limit, and the limit of freedom of speech depends directly on the consideration of the rights of others. People is free of believing what they want, thinking what they want, and even saying what they want, everything as long as they do not intrude or violate anyone else's rights. Under certain circumstances freedom of speech should be limited, and this is more than just a political action, this acts represent the urge for tolerance and the need for respect.
Making a successful public presentation or speech to an audience was a very big task for me before I joined the public speaking class. I was always frightened and very nervous. Since then I now understand the process of making a speech or a presentation including coming up with a topic and from this topic develop the main points of the speech, research, organize my points, revise them, edit and make a magnificent presentation to any audience. People in the audience might sometimes agree or disagree with my opinion or points, it was therefore necessary to communicate my information clearly to the audience without making any judgments since every person was entitled to a different opinion and views about things.
Public speaking is one of the most under rated skills learned in school, yet is one of the most valuable. The way you communicate shows a lot about you, and can influence other’s opinions of you. In every profession communicatiis important. Good communication skills, no matter what you plan to do in life, will help you out greatly and improve your chances against a harsh job market. I am majoring in Business Administration and Law, and communication is one of the biggest parts of business and law, yet communication is hardly ever taught in business classes for my major. I think that a communications class like public speaking, for example, should be not just for a college class, but taught in high school and middle school as well. I believe several classes would allow anyone to become an expert speaking. The only way to fully learn public speaking is to get up in front of people and talk to them. One can not learn public speaking from a book.

Speech is vitally important for a variety of reasons. I believe that our words can increase or decrease our level of happiness or even have a positive or negative effect towards our future. Speech helps us as a society to resolve issues in a respectful manner; it helps us get important points across and convey messages, it also helps us structure our ways of communicating. The importance of speech is giving us the ability to make situations more...
