Recommended: The importance of ethical leadership to an organization

Throughout history, ethical dilemmas surrounding our criminal justice system have become common in various departments. The occupants of these fields are faced with difficult decisions on a daily basis. Due to the authority their job provides, officials are exposed to numerous tempting situations in their line of work. However, they are expected by the public to maintain integrity and possess effective moral judgments. Their ethical character is questioned when they do not follow proper procedures imposed by their job. For this reason, the public continually loses faith in government operations. Nonetheless, the public holds high ethical standards for public leaders. Ethical standards are defined by society as, “moral principles that governs a person or groups behavior” (Pollock, 2012). Furthermore, the following paper will review The Dilemma at the Public Service Department and examine various ethical aspects. Additionally, create a strategic management plan to approach and resolve the ethical issues in the public service department. First, Alex must understand the mission and desired outcomes of the department. What are the goals? Does it represent the people? Alex needs to ensure that the goals are to serve the population. Secondly, an effective way to run a department is to know who you are serving. Including the input of stakeholders will ultimately improve the department. Thirdly, ignoring the unintended consequences will not benefit the department, the department cannot move forward if it does not learn from its mistakes.
