Public Health Problem
Ebola Virus comes from the known strain family virus called filo viruses, which are zoonotic pathogens. Symptoms include fever, headaches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, throat pains, and muscle pains. These symptoms can start as early as 2 days to as late as 3 weeks after contracting the virus. This public health problem dates back to the 1970’s where the first three known outbreaks occurred in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sudan (Li, Chen 2014). The Ebola virus is introduced into a population when there is close contact with the blood, secretions, or bodily fluids of animals that are infected. The virus started in Africa by humans coming into close contact with infected chimps, gorillas, bats, monkeys, antelopes, and porcupines. Ebola spreads within a community through human to human transmission. The virus is able to spread quickly due to direct contact of the skin or mucous membranes. Ebola is a problem in the world for six main reasons. First, there is no cure for the disease, vaccines have been tested but none are available for use. Second, Ebola is a very deadly disease. It can kill up to 90% of victims within a couple days of exposure (Cunningham 2003). Filo viruses cause episodic, lethal and hemorrhagic outbreaks in humans and in primates (Olival, Islam, Daszak 2013). Third, healthcare workers are becoming infected while treating patients. This is due to the close contact with patients and healthcare personnel not taking full precautions. Fourth, infected individuals are still contagious after death. This virus is similar to Ebola, because it started in the same place. Lab workers in Germany, in 1967, contracted the new virus while working with African Green Monkeys, which had the virus. The virus is described as a hemorrhagic fever. It has a fatality rate up to 90% and spreads through human to human contact. The first symptoms can be as simple as a fever and a headache, then can progress to organ failure, and fatal internal bleeding.
Three years later, The United States Army Medical Research Institute is conducting research on monkeys injected with the Mayinga strain of Ebola Zaire virus in effort to develop a vaccine. Ebola, which is believed to be transmitted through blood and body fluids, somehow infects control monkeys across a room.

Hot Zone explicitly demonstrates the quick spread of the Ebola virus and human’s efforts to fight back the filoviruses (Ebola Zaire, Ebola Reston, Marburg, and Ebola Sudan).
In 1976 the first two Ebola outbreaks were recorded. In Zaire and western Sudan five hundred and fifty people reported the horrible disease. Of the five hundred and fifty reported three hundred and forty innocent people died. Again in 1995 Ebola reportedly broke out in Zaire, this time infecting over two hundred and killing one hundred and sixty. (Bib4, Musilam, 1)
According to the World Health Organization (2014) “Ebola first took place in 1976 in 2 simultaneous outbreaks, one in Nzara, Sudan.., in Yambuku, Democratic Republic of Congo. [and the] latter occurred in a village near the Ebola River, from which the disease takes its name”. The disease has also started spreading through countries such as Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia (which are West African countries). The United States of America had their first case of Ebola on September 30, 2014, when a man traveling back from Liberia was diagnosed with the disease in Dallas, Texas (CDC 2014). The man did not show symptoms until he reached the United States.

The Ebola Viruses are found in several African Countries. CDC (2015) stated that Ebola was first discovered in 1976 near the Ebola River now called “The Democratic Republic of the Congo”. The natural source host of Ebola virus vestiges undisclosed. Nevertheless, evidenced and the comparability of the disease, the researchers, believed that the virus is animal borne and bats are stated to be the most likely
