The maintenance of health depends on promotion of wellness as to combating of disease. Studying and practicing medicine over the years, I learned the absolute need for, and intrinsic rewards of broadening my perspective of health related issues affecting the community. Treating individual patients in clinical practice alone cannot apprehend the large goal. I have a profound interest in well-being of children, women, family planning, preconception care. With my recent relocation to America, the challenge of a new beginning gives me the opportunity of health education in the MPH program. The program aligns with my lifelong commitment and career goals. The notion of public health was seeded while volunteering for National Service Scheme (NSS) over the years of my undergraduate course. I am interested in doing research in mother child dyads and measure to improve their mental health, child abuse and HIV/AIDS, which goes parallel to Prof. Julianna and Prof. Sylvia Guendelman research interests.

I am interested in pursuing the Physician Assistant (PA) degree because of my experiences both within the medical field and as a patient. These experiences have led me to believe that a team approach to patient-centered medicine provides the best and most comprehensive care possible. Further, the PA profession offers me the opportunity to continue my lifelong passion of helping others, giving back to my community, and provides me with further opportunities to teach.
The knowledge that I will obtain in the public health portion of the program will allow me to be better prepared to understand the social and environmental determinants of health that contribute to the development of diseases, and this will allow me to care for my patients more effectively. As these and other public health issues become more prominent, having a well-trained workforce that is equipped to address community-level health concerns is vital. As a profession, PAs are well educated as primary care clinicians and are able to handle a wide variety of common health care disorders. Adding a master’s degree in public health equips PAs with an expanded skill set which can be used to manage the health of entire communities, specifically those which are
Healthcare is intriguing. The health and wellness of people always has been intriguing and always will be. My background in healthcare came as an environmental pass down with a father as a Registered Nurse and a mother in healthcare management. It was inevitable that the journey of healthcare started being instilled without my knowledge of it, as a young child. A constant learning in the health sciences and management directed my way. By the start of college, the intrigue lead to compassion, lighting a fire for the administration of healthcare. This calling spurred by a great woman, my mother, who is a national redesign award winner by the Bureau of Primary Healthcare in Health Disparities. These footsteps down her similar path with careful guidance, but not to be confused with an easy path.

Listening often allows me to help others sort through their problems. Combining this trait with my love for working with children, I began mentoring children who had HIV/AIDs on a weekly basis beginning my freshman year. Whether I helped them with their homework or just listened to see how their day went, I tried my best to connect with my pupils. Thus, as a student in SPRINGH, I would be very happy to conduct HIV/AIDS research or anything related to pediatrics since I already interact with many of them on a long term basis. It would be interesting to be able to gain a social and an academic perspective so that I can have a more holistic view. Experiences such as these will shape the kind of educational and personal experiences I want out of the two and a half years I have left. I am certain that the Summer Program for Research in Global Health program is the next step in my journey here at Washington University in St.

Specifically, I am interested in epidemiological methods in community health.
