Journal Psychological Services The Psychological Services at Fresno City provides free services for enrolled college students. These services are individual brief therapy, crisis intervention, group therapy, psychological testing, referral network, consultation, and also provide guest speakers for teachers who want their students to be informed in what is provided on campuses. If or when a student want to have a therapy session the student will be assigned to a therapist. The therapist will then learn from the student on what is going on and how to best help you. The student will receive eight sessions free in the first semester,then after two sessions for the subsequent semesters. Therapy sessions last about 50 mins long and are sequalded once a week. Also therapy is confidential and private. Therapy is a way to help students find different ways to cope, process difficult emotions or situations, and improve the students well-being. …show more content…
There are three main common students concerns.
There is the Emotional concerns: these are Sadness, depression, hopelessness, Tired, lack of energy, Decrease in motivation, Isolation, loneliness, Irritability, hostility, anger, Feelings of worthlessness, and Relationship concerns. There are Stress and Anxiety concerns: these are Fear, anxiousness, Panic attacks, Stress, worry, Unwanted intrusive thoughts, Restlessness, Shyness, and social anxiety. Lastly there are Thinking concerns, students who have these concerns have trouble remembering and concentrating. The most scary part in this knowing of the psychological concerns is that I have gone through and still going through emotional and stress/anxiety symptoms. In high school I went through some major family problems that cause me to go through depression. With these depression symptoms I developed anxiety, but I have gone through every single concerns in these two
columns. There is something a person that even though I do not see him still causes me to stress out. This one person you are probably wondering is my biological father. He was in my life for 14 years until he started to threaten me with court orders. This had go so bad it went on for three years straight which caused me to go into depression and other symptoms. I have gone to the point where I wanted to consider suicide just so he would not have no whight over me. I am thinking of attending the psychological center to schedule an appointment with a therapist. There is some unknown reason on why I am so scared to tell the biological father what he has done to me. I hope that with these therapy sessions it will help me see what the big picture. It is scary because my biological father is know for violence and anger issues. I was informed that he threatened my mom when i was just a baby and that for some bizarre reason all his brothers were antsy when I had stayed alone with him. The one main cause of the stress is that I want to know why I am so emotional and do not remember what memories I have from when I was 14 to second grade. The one question that I keep running through my head is do I really want to know my passed even if my brain is blocking those memories and also what did he do to me?

The social workers in both videos gathered information regarding each of the client’s issues. Another common denominator in both videos is that both of the social workers repeated what the client had said in their own words to allow the client to feel heard and understood. Client A is a 22 year old college student experiencing intense fear and worry of social situations (e.g. parties, dating, sporting events, group activities) or situations where she will be the center of attention (e.g. birthday party, public speaking, answering in class). Client A describes racing thoughts, intense upset stomach, rapid heartbeat, trembling, and sweating when she considers being part of the above stressful situations and ultimately often avoids these situations. She stated she became a homebody during high school when she began feeling uneasy around others and worrying about what they would say about her or something bad will happen. Client A desires to be more involved with friends, activities, and clubs; she believes her intense fear and anxiety are affecting her academic and occupational goals. Her good friend recently teased her about rarely leaving the dorm room which encouraged Stacy to seek help.
Social workers are increasingly recognized as an inevitable part of interdisciplinary teams in addressing the needs of clients who seek for legal remedies and services. The relationship between social work and law has been developing since 1917, when Mary Richmond, an architect of modern social work, acknowledged the role of legal authorities while developing her conceptual model for casework (Forgelson, 1970). Later, Mary Richmond drafted an early social work code of ethics in the early 1920s (Reamer, 1987). However, from the development perspective, all 50 states in the US have passed statutes requiring professionals from certain disciplines, including social work and law, to report any abuse or crime happened in the past or is going to happen in the nearest future if there are good reasons to believe that is true. Dubose and Morris (2005) stated that very few states passed similar mandatory reporting statutes for attorneys. It is not surprising that only a few states accepted these statutes because of the presence of the attorney-client privilege statute, which is true for all states. Due to differences in the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct and NASW Code of Ethics, professionals from the respective disciplines may have conflicts while both provide social and legal support to the same client from a domestic violence organization. There are two main reasons that allow the tension to happen, social workers are mandatory reporters of child abuse and neglect but lawyers, on the contrary, have an ethical responsibility to maintain client confidentiality (Taylor, 2006).

As soon as I wake up in the morning, I hear my brain freaking out about the day ahead of me. What do I eat for breakfast? What do I do first when I get home from school? What happens if I get in a car crash on my way to school? A million thoughts at one time racing through my head. I never have the time to process all of them. Most mornings, I lay in my bed and have to take a few deep breaths to begin my hectic but not so hectic day. That’s just the beginning. It’s safe to say that I feel that I 'm an anxious person and that I have an anxiety disorder.
I believe that from a general sense, all people need and crave social interaction and emotional fulfillment. From the beginning of childhood, human beings thrive off personal contact with others. They learn through these interactions, which begin to help shape who they are and who they want to become. Every human being has a different purpose in his or her own life. Some may seek professional success or social status. They may have the desire to attain a position leadership that perhaps seeks to help others. No matter what the case, most people do have one thing in common: the basic desire to be accepted and love.

He describes the consequences of constant test anxiety including lowered self-esteem, reduced effort, and loss of desire to complete school tasks. Students who have academic anxiety also have a higher risk of developing depression, and often feel deprived of confidence (Cunningham, 2008). Thus, academic anxiety can become extreme, and have negative effects of students’ well being.

Mental health workers are frequently unaware of the power they have over people with mental disorders. If this power is not utilized appropriately it can have negative effects. For example, it can lead to dependency and institutionalization, or even worse to violations of human rights.
