After reading class material in regard to the psychological perspectives or subdivisions it was really hard to pick just one. They are all interactive and connected. Many of them are important in our life , simply because we do live complex lives. We are mothers, responsible for socialization of our children so we do need developmental psychology, with teenagers we need more personality psychology. In this article I recognized many of strategies that I used since my high school days. Some of them come naturally from my own experience, what works the best for me, and some come as a suggestions and recommendation from my mother, who was a teacher and had degree in child development.
What I recognized in this article and could related too, was a fact that we learn better if we relate knew knowledge to people, places or prior experiences. It was so much easier to me to retain new material by linking it to something already familiar. I also practice,” little at the time “approach. All through my high school I maintained straight A (in former Yugoslavia straight 5, highest grade), by learning material” as it comes”. Reading after school what we learned that day, help me to remember better. I will “play the film” of my teacher from that day explaining all this in my head or I will pretend that I’m presenting that class in front of huge audience. I’m also early learner. I like to learn study and read in the morning before anyone else wakes up. This will help me stay focused, without any outside stimuli. No phones, no noises from outside, no kids running around house no dogs
Psychology comprises of two words originally used by the ‘Greeks’, ‘psyche’, defining the mind, soul or spirit and lastly ‘logos’ being study. Both words define together the ‘study of the mind’. Psychology perspectives evaluate the normal and abnormal behaviour and how persons’ deal with different concepts of issues and problems. Psychology theories’ are based on ‘common sense’, but its scientific structure, everything needs to be evaluated and tested, therefore, promoting different psychological theories’.
The Blind Side is a film that follows the life of Michael Oher, an underprivileged high school football player that is supported by an upper class family, the Tuohys, and taken into their home. They provide him with shelter and a bed that he says he has never had. As the Tuohys are driving down the street one night, they see Michael walking alone in the cold. The aim of this essay is to analyse four theoretical approaches to psychology, including psychodynamic, humanistic, cognitive and behavioural. Analysing each approach in detail and identifying key features the approach uses to explain human behaviour. This essay will also analyse how successful each approach is in it methods, evidence gathering techniques and analyse how it can be applied to giving reasons for particular human behaviours. As well as analysing each approaches failings in it theories, methods and evidence gathering techniques.

If you have a reason to remember information you just learned, then you have a better chance of holding on to it. For example, let’s say a person has trouble with his/her multiplication tables. And the person loves to lift weights. The teacher would use the information form math and apply it to the weight lifting. Such as 5 x 5=25, and lifting five pounds five time is a total of twenty-five pounds. You see this comparison makes the student learn it better because he/she can use it in more ways than one. This technique has helped me the most when I was learning about percentages in math. I could not quiet get the hang of it, so the teacher applied it to how much money would one save if a $50.00 shirt was 20% off. This gave me the motivation to learn it. Second, you should be selective in what you learn. You only want to learn the main ideas and leave the supporting material alone. Doing this should make you memorize the information in a shorter amount of time. For example, if you were trying to study Biology, and there is a lot of it just remember the bold face type ...
The five major theoretical perspectives in psychology are biological, learning, cognitive, psychodynamic, and sociocultural perspectives. Each one of these perspectives searches for answers about behavior through different techniques and through looking for answers to different kinds of questions. Due to the different approaches, each perspective form their own assumptions and explanations. Some perspectives are widely accepted while others struggle for acceptance.
One of the strategies the book suggests is making a connection with the child( Meeting the challenge: Effective strategies for challenging behaviors in early childhood environments, 1999, p. 15). By building a relationship with the child you both are more appt to work together. Another stage in the book is to change the environment to meet the needs to meet the needs of the child( Meeting the challenge: Effective strategies for challenging behaviors in early childhood environments, 1999, p. 17). For example offing multiplies of the same toy in a toddler room, or labeling shelves in a preschool room with pictures and words. Also, you can change your approach with children by looking for the positive, and see through the eyes of a child (Meeting the challenge: Effective strategies for challenging behaviors in early childhood environments, 1999, p. 21).
Learning and memory are fascinating. The world could not function without either. They both are used in many different fashions in a wide variety of places. Learning and Memory have been carefully studied by professionals but are also well known and used by the common people on a daily basis. I am one of those common people, a student who is constantly learning and making the most of my memory. Since enrolling in The Psychology of Learning and Memory class I have come to the realization that I encounter situations in my life that exemplify the very concepts I have studied. I have also learned that it is beneficial to apply the lessons learned in class to my everyday life. Positive reinforcement, learned helplessness and serial recall are a few among many of the learning and memory models that have come to action in my life and in my final reflections surrounding the course.
This essay will critically evaluate biological and behaviourist psychological perspectives. A psychological perspective is a theory which attempts to explain human behaviours and motivations. The Biological Approach, which came about in the 1880s, holds that human behaviour is determined by the anatomical structure of the brain. Including the chemicals produced by it and how they interact with each other. This approach is deterministic: it argues that all human behaviour is solely determined by our genetics, brain mechanisms and neurochemicals such as hormones. The Dunedin Longitudinal Study will be evaluated from this perspective. The humanistic perspective has its origins in existential philosophy. It argues that the world is ultimately meaningless and that people are free to choose their own personally worthwhile destinies (Maslow, 1943). The case study ‘Cindy’ will then be evaluated from the humanistic perspective. Lastly, there will be an evaluation of the humanistic therapy - person-centred therapy. The essay will then attempt to come to some conclusions about which approach best explains human behaviour.
Off the five developmental theories, I would like to describe and explain two grand theories, Cognitive theory and Behaviorism.
a.) Throughout the film, there are two primary subjects through which we observe using the subjective perspective. The first is established early into the film, once Kael is on house arrest and confined to the loneliness of his room. The objective perspective initially centers on his new infatuation, the new girl next door Ashley Carlson (Medjuck, 17:30). Further into the movie, and once we establish a connection between them, the subject of perspective immediately changes to the mysterious neighbor Mr. Turner (Medjuck, 24:27), who we then follow consistently throughout the remainder of the film.
The field of psychology has opened different hypothesis from a variety of theories with the aim of studying the behaviour of humans being as a result they concluded with five psychological perspectives. Behaviourist, Biological, Psychodynamic, Cognitive and Humanistic perspectives are the deduction after a depth study of mental activity associate to human behaviour. In this essay I will be comparing two psychological perspectives according to aggressive behaviour.
The psychodynamic perspective deals with how memories/inner forces effect an individual’s development. Then the behavioral perspective focuses more on how an individual reacts on their environment. Whereas cognitive perspective is more on how there surrounding influence the way they think about a topic. The contextual perspective is the relationship people have with their surroundings and how it influence the cognitive development, social development, etc. Finally the last perspective, evolutionary perspective, is based on how the environment cause’s someone to change their behavior due to changing environment. Throughout this course I have learned a lot about psychology. I will talk about how it affected me personally, socially, organizationally/societal, and the lasting impact it had in my life.
