It can be confusing when people talk about mediums versus psychics. They are often given terms that don't apply to them. The terms may be a bit confusing as well. If you're trying to find a guide, it's vital that you understand what they are capable of helping with, and what they are not. Many times, guides are lumped together into one category when they can be vastly different from each other.
What is a Psychic?
When people talk about a psychic, they are often mentioning someone who can pick up non-physical or supernatural information from the world around them. While we all have five senses, which are sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell, psychics have extra senses beyond those five. The abilities they have is often called extra-sensory.

They use this ability to help clients with their daily lives as well as specific problems. Since they both have psychic abilities, psychics and mediums can read a person's energy to perceive events that have impacted the person already or will impact them in the future.

Differences
A psychic can receive information about events in the future, while mediums are only able to receive information that the spirit decides to impart. They are not often concerned with the future of our world. It's thought that while the spirits can see the future and the past, they do not tend to worry about the future as we do.
While a medium is usually a psychic, not all psychics are mediums. A psychic can perceive a wide range of information around them, which is the same for a medium. While a medium can channel a spirit from beyond the senses, a psychic does not have this ability. This is one of the most profound differences between the two spiritual guides. It's an important distinction for clients depending on the type of advisor, and the type of help they are seeking when looking for a guide.
What a Medium Can do to Help
Grieving Process
A medium can help a loved one with the grieving process when they've lost someone. When a medium contacts the spirit world in search of a loved one who has passed on, they are looking for reassurance from the spirit on behalf of the client. The client wants to know that the loved one is not suffering and is at peace. It often brings peace to the client who is themselves
In the film “The Holy Ghost People,” right away we get individual accounts of what the “Holy Spirit” is to certain individuals. One woman says the Holy Ghost guides her and keeps her going. The people are very intense about their beliefs, which comes from the religion Pentecostalism, which has a hyper focus on personal experience with God and baptism with the Holy Spirit. We see them in their church, we hear the sermon, and see the ritualistic dances and the way the prayer overcomes them, and causes seizure like motions. We see and hear the prayers for the healing of one woman’s eyesight, and another woman’s back pain. One man, seemingly the pastor, says that “if God is not doing what they ask, people aren’t believing hard enough.” Later we get an account from a woman of how she was nursed back to health as a little girl brought her nutrients, and she believes it was

In Modern Pagan/Wiccan practices, Evocation is referred to asking the elements, spirit, God/Goddess to assist you during your spell work/rituals by inviting them to join you for the purpose of using the extra power/energy provided by these entities to achieve the desired results, and at times can be used to receive much needed answers from these beings. Evocation can create more energy and power surrounding your spell work, that you may not be able to possess on your own (or within your coven). According to AltFaiths, when a practitioner Evokes the aid of another ethereal being their work, their emotions become influenced by the presence of this being. AltFaiths then continues by explaining how practitioners use evocation to cast their circle of protection by
Paranormal activity is manifestation that lies outside of the normal experience which can’t be proven to be real. Most people have become interested in the haunted houses and stones due to the lack of support that they are getting from the community of science. The lack of support from the community will be hard to get because most people do not believe in this. According to the unknown, “paranormal activities and sightings usually fall into categories: spirituals entities, crytids, which are organisms whose existence is told by legends and myths.” Most people think that paranormal deal with just ghost and their hauntings but it is much more than that. Paranormal phenomena are not accepted by the scientists because they feel the evidence should be required. According to Psychic Readings, "ESP stands for extra sensory perception. While clairvoyance, or seeing clearly is primarily an optional phenomenon." A clairvoyant psychic is someone who shares a vision of unseen in telling about their health or future. "Clairvoyants are people who specialize in supernatural skills," states Psychics Reading. People like this have a magical ability to see into the past, present, and future. ESP is normally addresses as the sixth sense. "The term 'ESP' was used often in 1870 by Sir Richard Burton." Psychical research does not support that everyone is born with this capability. It is said there are people who have experienced at least one ESP in their lifetime. However to Schmeidler, another theory claims that ESP is a super sense which evolves in the nervous system. From David’s perspective, “hundreds of years ago to possess the gift of clairvoyance, one was considered a witch - as unknown knowledge was 'feared' (the emotion which keeps us trappe...
When it comes to the subject of psychics or "mediums" such as John Edward, most people want only to prove or disprove its existence. However, to prove or disprove this would be impossible because there is no scientific way to achieve either. When approaching such a sensitive subject as this, one should keep in mind a single question, is it reasonable to accept this as fact?

They are regarded asa great cloud of witnesses who watch the spectacle of life and times. More important, the dead are believed to be able to interfere in the affairs of the living. “Just as a candle cannot burn without fire, men cannot live without a spiritual life.” According to Buddha, everyone needs some form of spirituality to define his or her life and existence. Webster Dictionary defines spiritualism as “a system of beliefs or religious practices based on supposed communication with the spirits of the dead, often times through mediums.” Though this is one general definition of spiritualism, this concept is one that does not hold a conclusive meaning. Each and every single person has the ability and right to create and practice their own idea of spiritualism. From ancient times to present day, the term and practice of spirituality has transformed, particularly from region to region. Despite the discrepancies in practices and overall understanding of this idea, spirituality has had an effect and impact upon all of humanity since the creation of time. This religion that is believed to have been established in the early eighteen hundreds, after two little girls claimed to have the ability to talk to spirits, sparked interest in this spiritual movement, allowing it to spread rather rapidly over many geographical locations. Aside from being recognized as a religion, spiritualism is also believed to be a form of philosophy and a science in which spiritualists believe that there is life after death and try to demonstrate this through the ability of attempting to communicate with those that have passed on. Spiritualism was socially different from other religions in existence at the time because it presented followers with a more tolerant belief system that assimilated the principles and facts from a selection the world's religions. Spiritualism also made it acceptable for women to play a disti...
It is used to connect with another entity, in every sense of the word (mind, body and spirit). According to AltFaith, Invocation should only be used for serious matters, such as healing, and not for simple day to day spell work, as this can aggravate the deity being called upon, and because the power this creates is so great, it is not to be abused. AltFaith’s recommends building a relationship with the entity/deity prior to Invoking them, as this is an important part in self-protection, as well as creating a beneficial working relationship with this deity. A good (mundane) example of this is calling upon a friend for help – if we are in regular contact with this person and is a mutually beneficial relationship, when the time arises for one of us to ask for help from the other, chances are pretty good the help will be there. On the other hand, if we were to regularly call upon a friend only when we need aid, eventually they will stop assisting us, as they begin to feel used – this can also be attributed to asking for help from other worldly beings; in order for the relationship to work, it must be mutually beneficial, and is not to be taken
In the broadest sense of the word, a medium is the channel through which a message travels from the source to the receiver.
