events or daily problems.Mental health counselors have a Master’s degree. Social workers help people cope with everyday problems. They work with clients to determine goals and help meet their needs. They make sure that patients situations have improved. Now that I have researched each occupation, I believe that I could make the right recommendations to other people. There is something different about each occupation. Although each occupation cannot prescribe medication, they all have different ways to help a patient. I am not interested in psychology as a career. I am planning on majoring in nursing. I would prefer to work in a more fast pace setting, like the ER over the mental health setting.

In ancient times, a superstition was once believed by humans that erratic behavior was the possession of spiritually evil demons, that only wizardry or sorcery could mend and cure the mentally ill. In 1808, a man named Professor Johann Christian Reil developed a new medicine field called Psychiatry, meaning the soul or mind. Eventually, the physicians practicing this medical field were known as Psychiatrist (“History of Psychiatry”). As time passed, the field started to evolve and the knowledge expanded becoming one of the oldest medical fields still existing today (“Psychiatrist – DO/MD”). Psychiatrists are medical doctors who are experts at preventing and treating psychological illnesses such as mental disorders. A Psychiatrist is a significant aspect to the medical field because they gain insight into the human mind, specialize in varieties of mental disorders, and help humans overcome internal problems.
There are several different types of psychologist for different problems. One example is a school psychologist. In education and school psychology, they study the process of education and works to promote the intellectual, social, and emotional development of children in the school environment. The main type of psychology is called clinical psychology, which specializes in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of mental and behavioral disorders.
Why would anyone in this world want to become a psychiatrist? To me I think
Clinical psychologists can treat a wide range of patients, from mental disorders to emotional problems. To get an easier and simpler idea of what a clinical psychologist does, Ferguson's Career Guidance Center's definition gives a good picture of a clinical psychologist’s job description, “Clinical psychologists concern themselves with people's mental and emotional disorders. They assess and treat problems ranging from normal psychological crises, such as adolescent rebellion or middle-age loss of self-esteem, to extreme conditions, such as severe depression and schizophrenia.”According to Careers in Psychology, a clinical psychologist has three main jobs, to assess the patient, diagnose disorders, and recommend a possible treatment. When a clinical psychologist assesses a patient it usually involv...
It is no secret that our country is seriously lacking when it comes to managing the mental health issues of its citizens. Not only are mental health services expensive and not covered by many types of insurance, but mental health care providers are not always easy to find. To this end I have developed a career goal that is not something I see coming with a specific job title or one that I can see reaching without the help of others. My career goal is to use my background in both information technology and psychology to benefit those in need and to expand mental health care services into communities that are currently lacking easy access to the services.
What is it that makes choosing a career so difficult? Is it the fact that many people mainly choose a career they live off for the rest of their lives? Or is it just that they are scared of the difficulties and obstacles that will come through their path? Many students choose the usual careers: nursing, doctors, mechanics, or just working at a gas station. It all depends on where and if the student decides to go to college and what degree they are looking forward to earning.
A mental health counselor develops a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families and groups to accomplish mental health and career goals. Helping others to accomplish their goals and listening to various stories of hardship have always played a part in my life. Stories of others have helped me get through rough times, and so did my own personal stories do the same for others. My story may help save a life tomorrow. It is a rewarding career path that one may enjoy which requires excellent communication skills and a commit between each other.
Psychiatrists provide treatment to patients is different than that of most other physicians. They must not only diagnose and treat their patients medically, but must also make sure that the patient is not a threat to themselves or anyone else. They will meet with patients on regular basis; this could be bi-weekly, weekly, or two or more times a week. A psychiatrist must get to know their patients, and learn everything about them. By doing this, they can evaluate their situation and give advice and support accordingly. The psychiatrist would usually start off by doing a thorough history of the patient; documenting any information that may be relevant. This information could include medical history, any abuse as a child/adolescent, and any other knowledge that could lead to a better understanding of the patients needs. The psy...
A psychologist is a person who studies personality, which comprises consistent and distinct behavioural traits, which are expressed externally, and emotional traits, which are possessed internally. Psychologists also attempt to understand socialization, a process that teaches individuals how to be accepted into a society by incorporating rules, values or norms for better adaptation. A sociologist however, would be primarily interested in social stratification & how the society is divided into class, status and power which are distributed to different groups in the society.
Psychologists are very important people. There are many different types of psychologists to help people with certain problems they cannot handle on their own. They help people in every aspect of life, from helping them with daily struggles they face, to helping people get over an overbearing disaster they experienced.
Psychologists are very significant fundamentals of a legal system because of roles that they play. Psychologists typically play these roles like instructing attorneys on different cases, they provide extensive investigations, they consult on court cases, and jury selection. They also testify as an expert witnesses and evaluate trials. Some psychologists don’t need to be present to play a role in the courtroom setting. They can just be called on to do testing on individuals. Psychologists can be often used by police, corrections, and courts. .Mainly psychologist that are involved in criminal cases are a huge influence over the verdict in court trials. Police use psychologists for some things such as crime scenes to determine what a person was doing or thinking before death.
A psychiatrist attends medical school and is trained in general medicine. They also obtain experience by working in psychiatric units with a variety of patients from children to adults. They study the psychology of the human actions and personality developments to diagnose the proper mental and emotional disorders. Nurse psychotherapists can also assess this type of patients, however they only attend nursing school and do other certifications and training in psychiatric fields. A psychologist is another essential member who is trained for many years before receiving their license to practice and can evaluate, conduct therapies, and test on individuals for mental or emotional problems.
Many associate psychology with sitting in a chair in a small office as someone taking notes, asking how you feel about a certain event or feeling, analyzing your deepest secrets and memories. However, it branches off into many other fields. A clinical psychologist’s main job is “to reduce the distress and improve the psychological wellbeing of clients” (Bond). This can include anything from depression, eating disorders, and addiction, to mental illness, family and personal relationships, and learning disabilities (Bond). A clinical psychologist usually will choose to have an emphasis in a certain field such as children and learning disabilities and work in schools or social work facilities, or mental illness and work in a hospital (Bond). According to Vicki Cohen, people “typically are referred or come to therapy because they have a symptom”. These are defined by emotional, social, and or physiological.
