Be Still
Reading: Psalm 46 NIV
“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” Psalm 46: 10-11 NIV
If you are a planner like me, your mind immediately does a rat race when given an idea or thought. I carry it out to completion in my mind to see if it is going to work out. I ask lots of questions and look at the idea from many different angles. This is very efficient in my own work of nursing, homemaking, mothering etc. When the idea is within our control we know that our project or situation operates by physical laws and that things have a purpose. But when the free will of other humans or God’s will is involved, it changes the matter.
It was really easy for me when I fostered children to go through the same process. Is it feasible? Will it work out? Is it a good idea? Do we fit together? What does everyone else think? Carrying these thoughts out in my mind and weighing them with other people's opinions was not going to work in this situation, because the unknowns were too variable.
‘What is going to happen?’ was the biggest question and I had no answer from God. Except to be still. I had to remind myself of this verse very often and slow my thoughts

For the man will not rest until the matter is settled today” Ruth 3:18 (what version?). I can see Ruth wringing her hands and pacing while Boaz went to find out if he was to be her kinsman redeemer. Ruth was eager to find a redeemer. She was practically homeless and knew that she needed a way out. She knew that Boaz could be her way out. I’m sure she could hear the wedding bells in her head. I know she could see how her marrying Boaz could be a gift from God. But was it going to happen? She didn’t know for sure. Naomi saw her worried and encouraged her to be
As I continued to chat with my pastor that day, I really sensed the hurt in his eyes – the anger that comes from an unsolvable injustice, the tiredness of a problem. “What’s wrong?” I finally asked, “Having a bad day?” Sensing that I was truly concerned, he let the truth be told. “I talked with a woman today whose baby died suddenly of unknown causes. As we worked through her grief, she talked about how numerous friends and family, even a religious leader had patted her on the back, shook their heads and said, ‘It was God’s will.’ I find few things worse to say to a grieving parent. Saying nothing at all would be of more help.” It was obvious from our conversation that he had an understanding greater than I about God’s will, and his insight created in me a curiosity and desire to learn more.
It tends to be a crucial and a challenging process for adoptive parents to converse with their child that he or she is adopted at an early age because of every human being deserves to know their origins and any background information you can possibly provide, the later you wait the more you can hurt the child, and lastly to maintain that bond of trust so the child doesn't feel like a burden to the family. As of November 2013 In the United States of America it is shown 397,122 children are living without permanent families and are registered in the foster care system . And out of these children there are 101,666 children in the system who are eligible for adoption. However thirty-two percent of these children will have to wait over three years
The Hebrew Bible, better known as the Old Testament, is a collection of tomes that form part of the Biblical canon. Many scholars around the world do not think that a single author wrote the books contained in the Hebrew Bible, but rather that it represents centuries of stories frequently compiled after the events they describe . The stories were created with visions for the future, in order to allow audiences insight into communities and beliefs that were common thought during their era. The stories responded to the issues and problems of their time, but also addressed contemporary climates. While the stories themselves may not be true, they convey truth without needing literal readings. For example, the creation stories in Genesis, portray God as creating the universe, and while this is considered as not ‘literally true’; the stories communicate theological truths about mankind’s relationship with God through the eyes of Hebrew writers .
... system today. The need for a program like this one focusing on post transracial adoption is great. One of the leading problems among adopted teens today is teen suicide. Puberty is a time where emotions are at an all-time high. UNIT will be the outlet for the children’s emotions. Another common issue among adopted children is the feelings of isolation and loneliness. Children believe that no one understands these feelings; within this program children of all ages will learn there are others that are in the same predicament they are in. This program will teach children to believe in themselves because everyone has something to bring to the table. UNIT is going to connect the dots helping parents take care of the body, mind, and spirit of each and every child they adopt. Bonds will be formed among the children and also the parents bringing together a united community

Today’s culture is one where people like to do as little work as possible. Even when it comes to reading our own scripture, The Holy Words of God, a lot of people like to look up one verse and reference it to something without knowing what the rest of the passage says. Psalms 109 is no exception, it is one the more widely misused passages as of late. A popular verse from Psalms 109 is verse 8 which reads “Let his days be few; and let another take his office”, this is seen in reference to our current president, but what people fail to realize is what else David is actually praying. This paper is going to go through Psalms 109 and unpack it verse by verse to show the true meaning of what David was praying and to give us a new look at how to pray.
There are far too many children in the foster care who need a stable home, along with the loving support from couples who are willing to adopt them, so that they have a more concrete environment to grow up in. Statistics from Child Welfare Information Gateway show that there were close to 400,000 children who entered the foster care system in the United States as of November 2012 (1). Out of the 400,000 children, an astounding 51% were successfully re-united with their families while only 21% were adopted (6). Thus, leaving an estimated 130,000 helpless children who ...
Or what about a situation where a child you closely know is in need of a loving family? Maybe you were adopted, or your life has been deeply touched by adoption. Wouldn 't you want to benefit others lives in the same way? Now of course there are numerous hardships and dangers of adoption as well. The process of adoption can take anywhere from quite a few months to several years. You must connect with adoption agencies, complete home studies, submit important documents, and fill out possibly endless amounts of paperwork. The financial implications can also be quite large for the different required services to become an adoptive family. Also, when adopting, you don 't always know what you are getting yourself into. What health or behavioral issues will my new child have? Will they be strong and healthy? Or was their birth mother irresponsible during pregnancy causing developmental issues? All these aspects from how to adopt, why to adopt, and hardships of adoption will factor into ones decision to adopt and pursuing that decision, or
When it comes to family, money issues, and parenting, fostering a child that is blood related is very challenging and has transformed me into a stronger person.
Ever thought about who controls the decisions you make regarding your daily activities? You may think you control every aspect of your life, but some philosophers have questioned such notions. Many schools of thought explain the analogy of free will, and they present the argument of whether we have the freedom to act or other causes and effects determine our destiny. Free will in this context is defined as the freedom to choose and act where there several alternative courses of action. Theologically, the concept of free will is presented as the power to make decisions on our own without necessarily been influenced by external or predetermined courses.
Proverbs 16:9: The mind of a man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.
What does it mean that He has “become” better than the angels? Who does it mean He upholds “all things by the word of His power”? Who was Hebrews 1:1-14 written to?
While food has been taken care, Naomi goes ahead to plan for Ruth’s security also. Ruth follows Naomi's instructions exactly, demonstrating her love to her mother-in-law, and encouraged Boaz to pursue the possibility of marriage (Ruth 3: 6-9). Through the provision in Mosaic Law, a kinsman-redeemer could buy back a property that had passed out of the control of a family. Ruth, who put her faith in the God of Naomi, could escape from her condition by remarrying Boaz.
Ruth's devotion to Naomi during her troubling time clashed with her pagan ancestry. Her proclamation to Naomi in chapter 1:16, “Your people would be my people, and your God would be my God,” expounded her conversion of faith and loyalty. She denies her own pagan faith and devotes her life to the people of Israel and their God. Her commitment towards Naomi (God) gifted her with Boaz. He redeems her from a life of servitude and loneliness.
...rd was trying to tell me this. It was during this time I heard the word ‘seek first the kingdom’. As I heard this word, I cried out to God for the first time in my life to remember me. It was here I made a vow to the Lord in the faith that I would find remembrance. As I made this vow and fulfilled it, the Lord opened doors that I can truly say would not have been opened if I didn’t respond to the word to ‘seek first the kingdom’. Out of this time, the Lord blessed me financially, led me to buy a home and healed my anxious heart. It was here that I began to find testimony before God through offering. This is something I am still finding to this day.
