The transcendentalist ideal of nonconformity is a prevalent theme in the 2006 Disney movie series, High School Musical. The depiction of a modern high school emphasizes nonconformity in contemporary society through its illustration of Troy Bolton, a basketball player, challenging the social norm by auditioning for the school musical. Throughout the progression of the film, Troy refuses to comply with the demands of his father and peers, as they frequently call for him to not partake in the play because he is a basketball player. With Troy’s rejection other students begin to assert their unique talents that defy their stereotypes. Another basketball player, Zeke Baylor, asserts his culinary talents and Martha Cox, despite her intellectual abilities, establishes her dancing skills. Emerson and Thoreau would support Troy’s repudiation of societal pressures and his ability to refuse to conform to the precedents set forth by society.

What makes Grease and Footloose an all-time classic musical film to watch is the way they easily appeal to teenagers then to teenagers now. The catchy tunes, stunning john Travolta in grease, same relatable plots in footloose, along with the wild dance moves in both movies is what makes these two films ironically very similar. Both of the main protagonists in this movie move to new areas, where new influences effect not only their teen romance, yet as well as affect their ability to avoid unwanted people and the sense of being and outsider. However, grease and footloose are taken place in a high school setting where the relationships of each individual is changed due to the social influences brought by their peers. The relatable struggle of peer pressure in today’s society is exactly the same struggles portrayed in the past and in which is shown vividly in these to movies. Peer pressure was inevitable to all the characters; grease showed how the negativity of peer pressure effected Danny and Sandy while Ren and Ariel in footloose showed how peer pressure can have a positive influences throughout their relationship.
The theme of August Wilson’s play “Fences” is the coming of age in the life of a broken black man. Wilson wrote about the black experience in different decades and the struggle that many blacks faced, and that is seen in “Fences” because there are two different generations portrayed in Troy and Cory. Troy plays the part of the protagonist who has been disillusioned throughout his life by everyone he has been close to. He was forced to leave home at an early age because his father beat him so dramatically. Troy never learned how to treat people close to him and he never gave any one a chance to prove themselves because he was selfish. This makes Troy the antagonist in the story because he is not only hitting up against everyone in the play, but he is also hitting up against himself and ultimately making his life more complicated. The discrimination that Troy faced while playing baseball and the torment he endures as a child shape him into one of the most dynamic characters in literary history. The central conflict is the relationship between Troy and Cory. The two of them have conflicting views about Cory’s future and, as the play goes on, this rocky relationship crumbles because Troy will not let Cory play collegiate football. The relationship becomes even more destructive when Troy admits to his relationship with Alberta and he admits Gabriel to a mental institution by accident. The complication begins in Troy’s youth, when his father beat him unconscious. At that moment, Troy leaves home and begins a troubled life on his own, and gaining a self-destructive outlook on life. “Fences” has many instances that can be considered the climax, but the one point in the story where the highest point of tension occurs, insight is gained and...

life in the mid to late twentieth century and the strains of society on African Americans. Have you ever gotten a chance to watch the show Glee? Glee starts of with the beginning of another school year; high school cheerleaders doing their routine and the jocks throwing a kid into a dumpster. (Pilot) I personally was not interested in the show at all. When I used to see previews of Glee during commercials I would immediately change it. I thought it would just be another show about high school students doing their musical performance but later, I decided to give the show a chance. After I watched “Glee” I realized I was wrong in thinking the show would have the same connection with The High School Musical Movies. I figured the show would be like the musical movies because of the fact that the movies and Glee have the same similarities. They both have the same high school background and musical performance. But Glee is different that The High School Musical Movies, Glee has more realistic drama like a real high school has such as pregnancy in the students, couples problem, jealousy and so on. While watching the pilot of Glee, I came across with the question, “Why do high schools students relate to the show Glee?” So I decided to pursue my question and research about how real high school students relate and connect with Glee.

The way Troy’s father treats his family prompts Troy in leaving the house in attempt to escape. Despite his efforts to escape from his father, his father seems to have an everlasting effect on Troy. This is seen with the way Troy treats his family, which also drives his own family members to desert him. Due to Troy’s harsh personality that was developed from his father (and from the past), his relationships with his sons become complicated. Troy’s narrow-mindedness causes both Cory and Lyons to push him away from their lives; however, Troy seems to have a large impact on both sons’ lives, with them turning out very similar to Troy. This theme of father-son relationships throughout the play is a very significant one as it drives the whole storyline and leaves the audience mainly thinking about how the father can have such a strong effect on the
