I personally don't feel that over the counter diet medications are very safe or effective. I feel that the taking of any medication for weight loss should be under a physician's care if that is what they feel is advisable to help in a patient’s particular health situation. The over the counter medications do not require FDA review or approval of the drug maker's claims before marketing, and I find that worrisome. I don't really agree that the prescription diet medications are completely safe and effective either, but I do believe that they have more research behind them by being FDA approved and you are being monitored under a doctor's supervision while taking them. I don't feel that medication alone can correct a health issue of being overweight.
I think that if a doctor feels that medication is warranted it also should be combined with a sensible, healthy diet and along with increasing the patient’s physical activity. There are some that do have an illness or physical limitation that can hinder their being able to do typical exercise activities, but maybe alternative forms can be looked into. Also, there are some that suffer weight gain caused by illnesses or medications that they may be taking to treat an illness which must be very frustrating and upsetting. I think the best approach is to realize that more healthful lifestyle choices through diet and physical activity, and decisions for possible other forms of treatment if needed that are made under your doctor's advisement and care is the most sensible and safe way to approach a weight issue.

Do you think Doctor should secretly prescribe placebos to the patients? Is it Ethical for doctors to prescribe Placebos? In my view it’s “Yes”, because even placebo is a drug that has no value in itself, but improves a patient's health condition as they believe. Placebo treatment is also known as 'sham' treatment in the field of meditative. Taking some sugar pill or saline injection has been positive results from the patient. 80% of patients had a positive response by taking sugar water to cure from vomiting. There are several explanations why placebos work. Placebo is an opioid medicine, which has a positive response by taking apill, it is the conditioning model, which has great impact in medicine but contact with rehabilitative health care services, and it is an expectation treatment in which patients improve because they expect the placebo to have a satisfied effect.

Heena Dulull Book Review Food over Medicine: By Pamela A.Popper and Glen Merzer In Food over Medicine the author’s main points are how almost half of Americans now take at least one pill a day to treat diseases such as being obesity and diabetes. Dexfenfluramine is the first new anti-obesity drug to be approved by the FDA in 23 years. Although the drug was just recently recommended by an advisory panel for sale in the U.S. by a narrow 6 to 5 margin, it has been available in Europe for the past decade and it is sold in 65 countries (http://wsfl.usatoday.com/life/health/lhs484.htm). It is being marketed under the name "Redux" and its purpose is to help people lose weight by suppressing appetite.
If you have ever considered losing weight, you have probably heard of the various kinds of diet pills available. Diet pills claim to "melt away the fat." They sound like the perfect solution to shed a few pounds, but research tells a different story. Diet pills became popular in 1996. The most common ingredients were Redux and fenfluramin/phentermine, which posed as appetite suppressants. The pills seemed to suck up the fat, and people were losing anywhere between 25-50 pounds in months. The FDA no longer approves the use of Redux or fen/phen, but new ingredients have made diet pills just as popular. An herb called ephedra is currently the most common substance in diet pills. Ephedra is still available for over the counter distribution, but the FDA is researching the side effects. Many cases of heart diseases and strokes have been linked to the herb. The use of diet pills is not recommended, but the advice does not stop many Americans. Diet pills are dangerous and should not be taken. The pills should be avoided because they do not provide a safe or effective way to lose weight, cause heart valve disease and other complications, and are used as a replacement for physical activity.
Generic drug savings are widely recognized as a long-term solution to rising health costs. The 2014 Express Scripts Drug Trend Report shows that since 2008, the price of brand drugs has almost doubled but the price of generic drugs has been cut roughly in half.6 Purchasing generic versions instead of their brand-name equivalent drugs can provide substantial savings, not only for state and local governments and Medicaid programs, but also for health insurers, employers, employees, and direct pay patients.11 The need for prescriptions typically increases with age and the savings made possible by generic drug use among older adults and seniors are critical to sustaining affordable health care.6

According to the 2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted from 1999-2006, an estimated 34% of the U.S. population has some degree of metabolic syndrome. (1) A person is diagnosed with metabolic syndrome when he or she “has high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels that occur together and increases his or her risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes”. Over the centuries, ancients made use of several treatment methods. Two of them are modern medicine and traditional medicine. Alternative medicine is older than modern one. That effective therapy has used for many centuries on the patience when modern medicine has not occurred in the world. Because it has improved in China, it can be called Traditional Chinese Medicine. In contrast, modern medicine has been in used since 1900’s. In this system, drugs’ testes are done in safety laboratories with care and nicety, and their side effects are located before they are given to the patient. However, sometimes the side effects are not blocked so, people have to take another pill to get better. It makes people to take more chemicals into their bodies. Further, modern medicine has splendid efficacy on the fatal diseases. Even, alternative medicine which people’s ancestors utilized stayed in the background when modern medicine has just found, it works at the present time efficaciously. ****** Therefore, using alternative medicine is more helpful to get better than modern medicine because there are fewer drugs, side effects; there is placebo effect and holistic therapy.
