I believe that the desolation of ocean water is obsessive and should not be done. For example the water system is not consistent. Also, the water that they don't use and all of the salt goes back into the water. Lastly, with the fish screen, the eggs will go into it and die and then the repopulation will be affected. This shows that the desalination plant is an awful idea.

Also, As Voice of San Diego reported yesterday, ¨the Carlsbad plant failed to deliver about 20 percent of the promised water in 2016, and produced no water for 46 days. During its 18- month history, the plant’s reliability has gotten worse. It delivered 90 percent of the water San Diego County Water Authority ordered in 2016,and just 70 percent so far in 2017. At the same time, it has racked up more than a dozen water pollution violations.¨ This shows that the water desalination system is inconsistent. therefore , people cannot rely on the system.

Some of the pros of artificial reefs are local economic benefits, increase of sea diversity, and regenerating habitat. Some of the cons of artificial reefs are poaching, toxic material, and that the ocean can become a landfill. Artificial reefs help natural reefs by reducing fishing and diving pressure. Artificial reefs create beautiful places to go snorkeling and scuba diving. They provide economic opportunities as they attract fishermen, divers, and snorkelers. As long as the material that is used for the artificial reef is not toxic, than this a good way to recycle materials. If the material isn’t toxic, then we are not dumping trash and unwanted material. Instead, we are creating new habitats and decreasing the pressure on natural reefs.
Desalination plants overall could be a huge benefit to society for its high quality of water and intuitive water treatment techniques, however the big environmental impacts and high costs to produce water at a desalination plant makes it unfavorable to most communities especially the poorer communities. Although costs for the production and upkeep for a desalination plant has been going down while the technology of it rises, the only true benefit for having a desalination plant would only come into affect when it is near a body of ocean, such as Tampa Bay Water. All in all desalination plants could soon be the face of future water treatment plants and water sources, but for the present time it is still only a niche water source.
Farming is a $1 billion industry and nearby farmers need to dispose of agricultural drainage so that their crops would continue to thrive (McClurg). Farms have needed a place to drain water from their fields and they have been draining it into the Salton Sea since the 1920’s (McClurg). Unfortunately, the pollution caused by the drainage has caused further damage to the economy because of the loss of tourism. In the 1980’s the Salton Sea used to generate $300 million for the local economy (McClurg). Today tourism and the money the lake used to generate has been declining rapidly because of the pollution (McClung). Fixing the Salton Sea so that it can be used for agriculture, wildlife, and tourism will be extremely expensive to California in the future (James). “California has a new $383 million plan for the shrinking Salton Sea” in the short term but the long-term plan could cost “between $1.5 and $2 billion” (James).

Water pollution has had devastating effects on the environment, which include irreversible effects to the oceans ecosystem. People often underestimate the importance of the ocean. They don’t realize how much damage pollution has caused to the ocean and the thousand of creatures that inhabit it. Earth is a huge place, but resources are actually very limited and will not last forever; unless there is a balance. We must protect the resources we have in order for them to last into the next generation. Every time we throw away a plastic bottle, drive our cars, and even burn those millions of fossil fuels to operate all those huge factories, there is a chance it will pollute the ocean and eventually effect the way we live. There should be stricter laws regulating human pollution, in order to protect our oceans ecosystem.
The overpopulated areas of the Southwest cause a high demand in water, which results in excess usage of the reservoirs. This does not give the reservoirs a chance to refill, causing it to deplete. Pollution causes the water to not be sustainable or usable in homes. Because of the scarcity concern, many homeowners have started to illegally draw water from the river and will soon be forced to stop by way of fines. Overall climate change is thought to decrease water containment and is causing the river to actually run dry in highly populated areas. The water shortage is so severe that the authorities are reducing the flow from both reservoirs: Lake Powell, which supplies the upper Colorado basin, and Lake Mead, which supplies Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Your body loses water through breathing, sweating, and digestion, it's important to rehydrate by drinking fluids and eating foods that contain water. In the town of East Porterville, they have not had water in 5 months. Life is legitimately dreadful for them. They can not do basic effects that involve using water. I do envision that California should control phreatic water. In my opinion, I do believe that we should have regulation on how our own selves benefit from the water. Even though farmers understand that they also need water for farming and California is known for farming.

In 2009, Sylvia Earle gave a presentation in a TED conference on a rising problem that the world faces: the ecologic depletion of the world’s oceans. The ocean accounts for a massive portion of the recycled carbon dioxide back into oxygen, and provides food for huge parts of humanity and for huge numbers of animals. I agree with her conclusions that the oceans are being depleted and this can only mean bad things for humanity, but I disagree with her solution. To solve the problem, Mrs. Earle claims that the United States and other countries should expand their protected zones of the ocean. However, an ocean is not like a land environment, where you can section off parts of America to save isolated habitats. Fish travel often travel and migrate hundreds of miles to find food and suitable mates, this is especially true the larger the fish is. Sectioning off parts of the ocean only solves part of the problem, because the fish in that area will simply swim out of the area and then be caught by fisherman. The only way to incorporate government protection into the oceans, is for the government to effectively own the oceans within its borders and then lease the rights to fish or put quotas on the number of fish that each fisherman can take out.

The oceans need to be protected because it is where life began and if not taken care of, life as we know it will end. When dangerous substances go into the ocean, ecosystems are suffer and become endangered along with lives of people and of marine life. This superfund site (which indicates it's one of the most polluted places in the United States), is left over from a 1930's era chemical plant. Because DDT takes so long to break down in the marine environment, it persists to this day, contaminating certain species of fish. There are also highly polluted sediments in the Long Beach area, a sign of the heavy shipping in the port. Heal the Bay works on developing effective capping and removal plans to keep those toxins from spreading” (Heal the Bay). DDT is still highly concentrated in the South Bay area and still contaminating different species of fish. Even after more than 80 years DDT, a toxic insecticide, is still very concentrated and during upwellings, DDT particles come back up and continue to harm marine life. If humans are careless about what is thrown on the floor or sprayed on lawns, it can lead to disastrous affects when it comes to the condition of the ocean's ecosystems, and can endanger life itself leading to a problem that only we can mend.
