Non renewable energy, such as fossil fuel, is used all over the world. Big part of the population assumes that fossil fuel is a reliable source of energy, easy to obtain, and is relatively cheap. On the other hand, fossil fuel is a non renewable energy, which means that we can use it only once. Also, this burning fossils are not good for the environment and are the main reason of the global warming. In this era a lot of new technologies have been invented. Although not every created invention has been for good, renewable sources such as, solar, wind, and human power are a good alternative of energy. Despite some people thinking that solar energy isn’t helpful and it’s only a bad investment; solar energy is the best way to reduce the greenhouse gases and decelerate the global warming, also, is a good investment and it will help you save money in a short term, and unlike the burning fossil fuel, is not harmful for human’s health.
While some people still think that fossil fuel is a more reliable energy source that solar energy, they arguments are based only on the price of these fuels and the easy access that we have to obtain them;

however, renewable sources are improving, they are becoming more affordable, and are gratifying. One of the advantages that we get from using solar energy is electricity, in addition, we can obtain hot water, heat, and light. The exterior of our planet collects 120,000 terawatts of sunlight, 20,000 times more energy than is needed in our world, in fact, one day of sunshine is enough to power the world for one year (Aarre). If we collect and use that energy, the price of renewable energy would go down and the use of burning fossils could disappear. By going solar, homeowners are able to save money. Although the cost of the solar panel system and the installation cost are expensive, you will start saving money in a short period of time. Some people believe that solar energy is related to pollution, and in fact, they are correct. As a matter of fact, there is no pollution free energy in this world. Moreover, solar energy is not as harmful as fossil fuels are. In his article about solar energy, Mathias Aarre says, “solar energy reduces our dependence on non-renewable energy sources. This is an important step in fighting the climate crisis” (Aarre). As we know, solar energy is the cleanest and most abundant renewable energy that we can obtain. An interesting fact is found in Olivia Taylor’s article for tech.com, “1 kilowatt (KW) of solar energy prevents 300 pounds of carbon from entering the atmosphere” (Taylor). Opting for solar energy is actually helping to prevent the global warming. Fossil fuel is a non renewable energy, this is a source that we need in order to stay alive. If we waste this source now, it won’t be available in the future. Apart from some people that don’t care about this, we need to make an effort and go for renewable energy, this could save our lives one day. According to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, “the amount of solar energy that falls to the earth surface’s per day is more than what the planet’s 6.1 billion people could use in 27 years” (qtd in Wicks). One of the most common arguments that people can’t understand, is how the non renewable sources of energy are causing health issues to humans and animals. When we use and burn fossil fuels as is Coal; mercury is liberated and it could end on the water. Since humans consume seafood, sometimes this food is contaminated with mercury, which results in health issues for people. The air pollution caused by burning fossil fuels is creating health issues in humans and living creatures; respiratory diseases, emphysema, bronchitis, heart, and skin diseases are some of the results of not taking action replacing non renewable energy for renewable sources as solar energy. It’s time for us, humans, to start using pro environment and pro health energy sources. In conclusion, most people are conscious of the complications that non renewable energy produces, on the other hand, some people think that the use of renewable energy instead of non renewable energy is not going to make any changes in our world.
If we stop using non renewable energy, or at the very least, reduce the amount of fossil fuel that we are burning, people will start seeing changes. Not only people will save money by using the energy that comes from the sun but also it will reduce the quantity of carbon dioxide that we produce; it will help our environment and consequently every living being will have a healthier life. In my opinion, even though non renewable energy is cheaper and easier to obtain, we should opt for the use of renewable energy, it will reduce the green house gases and also will be benefit for people’s
health.
Natural gas, Priuses, LEDs, hydropower, solar power, burning trash, or improving traffic is not the answer to becoming a green nation. People need to change their behavior in order to change their actions; everyone must take a stand and use cars less, use less electricity, and use less of everything, because less is enough. If we wish to discourage society from using excess energy there needs to be an increase in: prices of oil, electricity, worsened traffic, and denser city populations. There is a way to do this without having the populace revolt: increase the prices of these services or goods nevertheless offering a modest stipend for those who decrease usage. If we truly want to live on Earth for a prolonged period of time, then we need to take care of her but are we willing to change our consumer mentality for the future of our
Alternative energy sources are renewable, and is most commonly referred to as free energy sources. There are many alternative energy sources such as hydro power, solar power, wind, biomass, and geothermal. Using alternative sources is more expensive in the long run, but it is the much safer option for our environment compared to fossil fuels. Although everything used is completely free, such as water and wind, the equipment used to generate these things are expensive. There are several pros and cons that come with the utilization of alternative energy sources.
The short story “The Enormous Radio” is a story in which John Cheever, the author, uses his own personal experience to show that no one is the “perfect” family. Cheever grew up in a family that had problems with alcoholism, and soon became an alcoholic, just like his dad. According to The Encyclopedia of World Biographies, John Cheever became an alcoholic in his twenties. He did not admit to this serious problem until his family placed him in a rehabilitation center in 1975 after suffering a massive heart attack. In relation to the story, this was a big secret of Cheever’s life that caused many difficulties with his family and his marriage. Set in multiple apartment rooms in the
How solar energy, a non-fossil energy resource, non CO2 producing technology, can disrupt man’s addiction to oil gas and coal and reduce CO2 emissions.
In chapter thirteen of our book, Environment by Raven and Berg, it shows us just how important renewable energy sources are. Currently the United States of America thrives on the use of fossil fuels and nuclear power. The main problems with these types of fuel are that they are both limited and can be extremely harmful to our environment. They cause global warming, air pollution, acid rain, and oil spills (Environment), and not only that, but in the grand scheme of things, these sources really aren’t even that cheap of a fuel source. There are many alternatives to these all but outdated fuel sources.
Renewable energies are energy sources that are alternatives to fossil fuels and can be replenished. Everyday industrialized countries pollute the Earth’s atmosphere with fossil fuel byproducts, like CO2, creating adverse effects such as climate change and global warming. From big businesses on an industrial scale to single individuals we all play a part in pollution, with things ranging from factories to automobiles. This is a big concern, considering many people would like to preserve the earth for generations to come. Due to this fact scientists have started to find new ways to provide cleaner and alternative energies to power the Earth.
In the debate of traditional energy vs. renewable energy the clear winner is renewable energy. Renewable energy is vastly superior over traditional energy because it decreases dependence on foreign resources, produces no emissions, and is not limited in quantity. Opponents of renewable energy are likely to argue that this is not the case and that instead, traditional energy is better because it creates job growth, is reliable during all hours and climates, and comes with a lower cost. These advantages however are either misconstrued or hardly outweigh the long-term positive benefits of renewable energy.
The sun has been a major aspect of life since the beginning of time. People used many other forms of energy before electricity was discovered. There has been a debate over energy resources for years. Many people are worried about what current energy resources may be doing to the environment. Oil spills and nuclear power plant mishaps have only been a few accidents that have had a big impact on the environment and the people who inhabit it. There are plenty of energy sources that do not harm the environment and are still able to get the job done. Solar energy is one energy alternative that will insure the betterment of the country and, at the same time, protect the natural environment.
People can also reduce the use of fossil fuels by doing simple things for instance switching off lights and appliances when leaving the room. Walking or cycling instead of driving a car or use public transport for maybe longer journeys. Little things like this will make a big difference, making our planet a better place.
increasing the supply of renewable energy would allow us to replace carbon-intensive energy sources and significantly reduce U.S. global warming emissions… a 25 percent by 2025 national renewable electricity standard would lower power plant CO2 emissions 277 million metric tons annually by 2025—the equivalent of the annual output from 70 typical (600 MW) new coal plants (“Benefits of Renewable Energy
I am certain that all have heard of the terms green house gases, fossil fuels, and global warming. Have you ever questioned what will happen if nothing is done about the environmental problems facing the world today? What if I answer you that, we can merely use the power from the sun to power up our entire planet without the use of harmful energy sources, which affect our atmosphere? The power from the sun is what we call solar power. Solar power is the energy that comes from the sun as light and heat energy, and then it is later converted into electrical energy through solar panels (Nelson, 2008). This kind of power is completely free, right? Why should we put a lot of expense on other sources of energy, when there is a complete free and healthy power? It is evident that solar energy is a healthy source of energy, which will help stop global warming all together, but it is economically efficient to switch everything to solar energy. Solar energy is capable of becoming the world's future power supply because, it is renewable, eco-friendly, and extremely efficient when strategically placed.
The Earth captures around 342 W/m2 of energy from the sun. This energy is in the form of solar radiation, which the atmosphere reflects about 77 W/m2 and will absorb around 68 W/m2 of solar radiation annually. Therefore, the Earth’s surface is receiving, on average, about 197 W/m2 of solar radiation annually. This amount of energy received is roughly more than 10,000 times the amount of all energy humans consume per year. This energy can be used to produce electricity or heat. This energy source is not being used to it’s potential considering how much effort would come into effect to store and transport this energy.
Regarding to solar power, Mistry claims that although the solar power does not generate pollution, it has a lot of costs. To built solar panels with a photovoltaic equipment has high costs. For instance, a photovoltaic system just for a home can cost around $35,000 (Kumar, 2012). However, if our goal for the future is to get a healthy environment, switch fossil fuels for solar power might be the best choice to achieve that goal. According to Kumar (2012), Solar power is a clean and renewable energy so, it decreases the dependency on fossil fuel and also reduces the air pollution. When the sun heats the panel, it generates clean energy which does not pollute the environment. All in all, the costs of solar power might not be applicable when it is certainly the best way for having a clean
Energy can be put into two broad categories Renewable energy and none renewable energy. Renewable energy sources can be reused continually as they are abundantly found in nature. All of them are non-polluting but devices used to collect the energy may impact the environment adversely. They are free but producing storage equipment or converting them into another form of energy may be costly.
Using fossil fuels such as coal and oil is inefficient, dangerous, and otherwise a process that is known to eventually fail as a long lasting energy source. Yet, there is hope for the future of energy, this new hope has many shapes and forms, but requires a chance to be fully implemented in our everyday life. Such energy sources like solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy, and hydro power are the key to our future. These energy sources are proven to be long lasting, safe, more reliable, and the next innovation. In short, all Americans should switch to renewable energy, resulting in a safer and more efficient world.
