Marijuana legalization is a topic that is much talked about in recent debates. As the states of Colarado and Washington have fully legalized it, the fight for marijuna legalization has grown in popularity across the country. Supporters of Marijuana legalization basically support the use of marijuana for recreational purposes without facing any legal consequences. In the states of Colorado and Washington dispenseries have opened up selling marijuana to anyone above the age of 21 in a free and peaceful manner. Legalizing marijuana has its advantages and disadvangages. Legalzing Marijuana can turn the substance into a great source of income for states, but it can also cause many people to become addicted to it. Research found that as many as a tenth of users have developed dependence over time (nyln.org). Legalizing the substance will make it even more accessabile to users and raise dependence across even more people since now anyone can buy marijuana from their local dispensery. Many people argue that if alcohol is legal, than so should mariuana be legal. Alcohol’s addiction potential is significantly greater than that of marijuana based on a number of indicators (mpp.org). But even if alcohol may be more addicitive than marijuana, alcohol 's after effects are much worse than marijuanas. You may get addicted to drinking alochol but its after effects are always yelling at you to stop. From hangovers to throwing up, you usually always end up regret drinking the day after. On the other hand, marijuana which its after effects are basically nothing, don 't give you a reason to quit using the substance. Users can smoke as much as they want yet wake up the next morning as if nothing happened the day before. Another pro for legalizing marijuana is that it boosts revenue for the states that legalize it. The state of Colarado has collected nearly $70 million in marijuana taxes from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015 (CSBJ.com). I think that cons outweigh the pros and that marijuana compared to alcohol is more harmful to society in the long run. Alcohol is seen as something you tend to consume on the weekends when your celebrating or grieving while marijuana is seen as something you tend to consume when you feel like. Colorodo may be seeing a lot less arrests and a lot more tax revenue but its schools are being hit hard in the process. In 10 years Colorado and Washington may be the lowest averging IQ states in the country. Altough I am not for legalizing marijuana I am for legalizaing medical marijuana. Medical marijuana makes harder for more people to get a hold of and makes marijuana seem to society that it is only ok to consume when needed not just for recreational
