Why handicap people to be average with everyone else, why not use genetic engineering or biotechnological enhancements to make everyone great? The answer is not to bring your whole team down when you are losing, but instead train your weakest link to be your greatest asset. In Harrison Bergeron, all the people are handicapped to be the same as everybody else. Kurt Vonnegut portrayed equality in his book but what about equality to more athletic, intelligent, and beautiful people? This is the idea in some Utopian Governments, but what about the negative aspects that it can bring up.

The pros of everyone being equal are seemingly endless, if the people are enhanced and engineered to be perfect that is. All the people in the world would be good at their jobs and nothing would go unfinished. Laziness and obesity could be wiped out completely. That is untrue, in my opinion there are more negative aspects to trying to make everyone perfect. Eventually people would feel like they did not have to do work the same as everyone and rebels would come out of it. Laziness would still be a factor because of how good everyone would be treated they would develop laziness in the prosperous life they live. Relationships would be more troubled because everywhere you go there would be a sexier person and the natural instinct would be to try to get with them. Everyone being the same and equal would cause people to be depressed because they would not stand out or have their own individual traits. Diseases may be gone and sickness but there would still be failures with surgeries and enhancements. Sports would get boring because everyone would be on an equal level of athleticism and competitive events would not be so competitive
