Getting a driver’s license is one of the most monumental moments in a teenager’s life. When I turned 16, I was so excited to be able to get my permit. But unlike any other teen, I put off getting my permit until long after I was eligible in fear that I wouldn’t pass my permit test. Of course, this was a ridiculous thing for me to let get in my way of getting my permit, but I let it anyways. After six months of torturing myself with the thought of “what if I fail the permit test?”, I went to the DMV and passed my permit test on the first try. Three months later, my mom and I got into a pretty serious car accident. At the time of the accident I was not driving, but I was so stunned by the incident that on the car ride home when my dad picked
In this article by Donna St. George, titled “Teens Are in No Rush to Drive,” she writes about teenagers who are waiting to get their driver’s license. Teenagers in this day of age are more busy and have more to do. Be transport from place to place since being a child, teens are use to their parents driving them. With phones, teens have an easy access to the internet which makes them want to get on social media. Along with smartphones and texting that teens don’t need to get into a car and visit friends. With new laws and requirements getting licenses is a lot more complicated and time-consuming. Sixty hours of practice and 300 to 600 dollars for private driving schools. With gas and insurance for the car, it makes driving too much to afford
Today, many teenagers work hard to obtain their license starting at age 15 by getting their permit. Many parents encourage their children to get their license and gain these privileges, however some encourage their kids to wait and many states agree. Driving age is commonly set at sixteen, but because of safety concerns, the idea of raising the driving age to eighteen is currently posed by state legislation. Increasing the driving age to eighteen is a smart decision because teenagers are seen as irresponsible, they are more likely to get into accidents, and teens can become easily distracted.
Teens need to be taught that driving is a task that is complex and demanding. Parents know how much experience a young driver has, and they know exactly how inconvenient it is when they have to drive with their teen everywhere while they have their permit. Teens tend to cause most traffic accidents in adults’ eyes. They are not experienced yet, and often fail to pay attention to others on the road. They often think of a car as being some type of toy, but they do not know how powerful it really is. The driver education programs must be strengthened in order to make sure that students really have safer habits, behind the wheel experience, and by having a better understanding of all the laws on the road.
Most if not all teens look forward to several events in their life. One of those events are getting a driver's license. This small piece of plastic is their ticket to freedom. This ticket is more than just freedom to be able to drive their friends around but also freedom from the ritual of their parents having to drive them everywhere and embarrass them in public. Also this is a freedom to the parents as well they may save more on gas from not having to drive their children around. However, some teens are not as safe as they possibly could be if they were to take a few steps to promote good driving habits. This is evident in the article “Teen Driving”, as the author gives the reader teen driving statistics, as well as explanations of programs and steps that can improve teen driving.
Many people only think of the short-term consequences of drinking and driving. Such as getting a DUI, losing their license or having their car impounded. It’s not until after posting bail and finding a ride home that the reality of it all starts to sink in. Losing your license alone can make drastic changes in your life, which as a result will affect your family’s lives. How will you get to work? Drive anyway and get a charge for driving on a suspended license? Will you be able to keep your job or find another with a criminal record? How are you going to replace the bill money you
The written test that you were required to take was taken at the armory. You needed to pass the written test to get your permit. The test was 100 questions that number made me very nervous because I?m not a very good test taker, and that is a lot of questions. The night before the test I couldn?t sleep because I was so worried about not passing the test. I think I read the book five times before I finally fell asleep. In the morning mom brought me to the Armory, I went in to take my test. It took me about forty five minutes to take it. I brought my test to the front desk they correct it right there, when she was done she came to tell me I passed. I was so excited now I could drive!!
Through out the years teenagers have been driving without a license. In this century teenagers are decreasing to get their license (Teens getting their driver license. (n.d.). Congratulations on turning fifteen and a half years old! I bet you are excited as I was back when I was fifteen and a half. With earning my Driver’s License, I feel like a more independent (and less dependent) person than if I did not. Knowing this, I knew I had to endure a long tedious process to actually get my license. Obtaining my Driver’s License has provided me with three key components: the freedom, the responsibility, and the dedication.
Although studies by Dr.Masten and his colleagues show, “75 percent of the fatal crashes we thought we were saving actually just occurred two years later,” (paragraph 4). This was stated when the minimum driving age was sixteen and this effected the number if fatal crashes in eighteen-year olds. Dr. Masten suspects that teenagers are waiting to get their license and skipping the restrictions, (paragraph 7).
Getting a driver’s license can be the most exciting part of a teens life. But what do teens have to do beforehand in order to obtain that license? For some, it's months of training and for others, they can complete everything within a few months. But does all that training make teens better drivers? The three main reasons why more drivers education for teens is not beneficial are: restrictions for teen drivers make it harder on parents, teens have to be able to get around without their parents, and not all teens need more drivers education.
The car accident will always be a major moment in my life because of what it showed me. That accident gave me visual proof that God has a plan for everyone and everything has a reason or hidden message. Just when I was coming to a point in my life where I was beginning to see where I fit in at school, it reminded me to cherish every moment has though it was my last, because I don’t know when it’ll be over.
Driving a car and obtaining a driver’s license does perhaps seem to provide people with a great sense of independence and freedom. Teenagers need to feel independent in order to learn to become successful on their own as well as realize how to handle life situations on their own, and having a license seems the perfect start and most effective way to do so. When teenagers feel this independence they tend to act more mature, knowing the responsibilities they must now carry on their own (More4Kids). Teenagers often look forward to the freedom that driving offers as well. Teenagers are able to take drives to escape from life’s many stressed, and leave any troubles at home behind without rebelling out against their loved ones.
To sum up, people who prepare all these significant steps by reading the manual handbook from the DMV, take classes with a good instructor and practicing driving with confidence can increase the chance of getting a driver license from the first time. In my opinion, everything in life, no matter how hard it is, it can be handled with some confidence and determination; according to Ying “The confidence and determination my mother had were admirable because English was a new to her as it was to
Whether or not teenagers should be allowed to get their driver 's license at age sixteen is a known topic across the United States. One of the causes for this argument is the number of fatalities caused by young drivers. Evidence shows, “In 2012, 1,875 drivers between the ages of 15 and 20 died in motor vehicle crashes and an additional 184,000 young drivers were injured, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,” (“Teen Drivers”). Most accidents are caused by young drivers. In the United States of America, citizens may receive their driver’s license at sixteen, if they meet the requirements. Some people argue that sixteen year olds should not be able to receive their driver’s license. Other people argue that sixteen
When I looked in the rearview mirror is when I knew it was all over. June 25, 2013 was the most tragic day in my life. It was not until that day that I realized how much I appreciate my life and my family. I was on the freeway headed towards the Galleria in Houston, TX, passing the tall Texaco building on this bright sunny afternoon, when everything went downhill. I remember seeing all of the cars in front of me have their bright red tail lights on because everyone was coming to a stop. As soon as I slowed down, I looked into my rearview mirror to see a beige car not slowing down at all but instead looking down at his phone texting, it was already too late for me to do anything. I felt as if my life were over and there was nothing anyone could do, I was sixteen years old when I had my first car accident. I learned that I should have stayed home the afternoon I got into my first car accident. That afternoon I remember gripping my steering wheel so tightly because I was so nervous about the car behind me that I could feel all of the ridges and grooves throughout my entire steering wheel and every indention in my steering
