Gas Vehicles Versus Hybrid Vehicles Remember when gasoline vehicles were the newest trend, but now everyone is saying how hybrid vehicles are so much better for the environment than gasoline vehicles, but no one seems to know how they are better for the environment. Now the newest trend is going to be hybrid cars. Gas vehicles are not just going to up and vanish one day, they will always be available to buy. You may have to special order it, but they will still be available to buy in most name brand car manufactures. There are many pros to gasoline engines but one of the most commons pros is that most gas vehicles can go farther than most electric vehicles get one charge. Also another pro of gasoline vehicles is that they usually have a good bit more power than electric vehicles do. Gas vehicles also put more power to the ground than electric vehicles do which in return would make them better to use for occasions like pulling a trailer or going on long road trips. Another pro of gasoline vehicles is that they are usually much easier and cheaper to fix if something goes wrong. …show more content…
One con is that they are so much harder and so much more expensive to work on than gasoline vehicles. Another problem with electric card could be that say your car was completely dead and you were charging your car and a storm runs through and knocks out all the neighborhood power. What are you supposed to do? Now hybrids would be different, because they use both electric and gas. So if you totally run it dead and have no way to charge it, you could run it on only gas if
Electric Cars use the energy stored in a battery (or series of batteries) for vehicle propulsion. Electric motors provide a clean and safe alternative to the internal combustion engine. There are many pros and cons about electric cars. The electric vehicle is known to have faster acceleration. They produce no exhaust.
According to Cars Direct website, hybrid cars can reach 51 MPG wish destroy all gasoline and diesel efficiency expectations. This high efficiency yield to two main reasons: hybrid car tend to be lightweight, and the cooperating between the gasoline engine and the electric motor. ” According to consumer reports tests, most hybrid cars have better fuel economy than their gas-only counterparts “ (Barett, “The Difference Between Gas and Hybrid Vehicles”). This is obvious if we compare between a hybrid and gasoline cars which have the same name: the hybrid Honda civic average efficiency is 40 MPG while the standard Honda civic average efficiency is 29 MPG, the hybrid Hyundai sonata average efficiency is 33 MPG while the standard Hyundai sonata average efficiency is 27 MPG, and the hybrid Ford fusion average efficiency is 34 MPG while the standard Ford fusion average efficiency is 24 MPG (Barett) [average efficiency is the average between the car efficiency in city and its efficiency in highway
The substantial increase in the demand for EV’s came just in time as we are slowly but surely running out of oil. Some estimate that by the year 2040, 35 percent of all vehicles will be electric (Sullins, 2017). An article from the U.S. Department of Energy stated that “Electric vehicles hold a lot of potential for helping the U.S. create a more sustainable future. If the U.S. transitioned all the light-duty vehicles to hybrids or plug-in electric vehicles, we could reduce our dependence on foreign oil by 30-60 percent, while lowering the carbon pollution from the transportation sector by as much as 20 percent (energy.gov, 2014). It’s obvious that gas-powered vehicles have harmed our planet with their emissions. Although EV’s cannot reverse that damage that has been done, they can eliminate, or at least slow down, the inevitable demise that our planet is headed towards. Along with the beneficial environmental factors that correspond with electric cars, there are also beneficial financial factors. The average American spends about $2,000 on gas annually. In the future, charging stations will charge roughly $12.00 for a full charge, which is about 300 miles. This means that the average American will save about $1,400 per year on these specific car
Buying a car is usually going to be the first big purchase a person will make in their life. It is actually considered the second biggest purchase, right behind buying a house. Cars now can do things like park themselves and even drive themselves. Electric cars are also a thing that is getting a lot of attention and studies show that they will be what dominate our streets and highways in the near future. Many people turn to electric cars because they are very efficient to our pockets. Not spending money on gas for the rest of your life is a huge selling point for many people. The problem is that recharging your car takes so long that sometimes it is not even worth it. Electric cars are also very good for our environment. Electric
There is an incentive from the U.S. government to buy electric vehicles instead of gasoline driven vehicles.
With a gasoline-fueled vehicle, buying gas to operate your car is a never-ending process. With the high price change of gasoline and oil, operating a gasoline-fueled vehicle tends to be very costly. While there are some types of small gasoline vehicles that get much better gas mileage than larger vehicles, even the most powerful gasoline cars will normally desire a contribution every month. According to some experts the only way a mainstream market for green vehicles wills materlize is with a pronounced and prolonged rise in fuel prices. (Buss, 4)
The chief disadvantage of EV's is that they usually can travel no more than 100 miles before their batteries must be charged (Harverdink, 1). While on the other side I only need to fill up the gas tank every 200 miles. Now, if you've ever been to Sitka, Alaska then of course you realize that from one end of the island to the next it is only about 14 miles, which is just the main road. There are all sorts of smaller roads that lead to more houses and stores. Being a teenager like myself, in a small town all that you can do is cruise around to kill some time. My boyfriend and I pretty much drive 100 miles in a day. Just from going back and forth and back and forth. Then we at least have one more day of doing that before we have to fill up the tank again. So for me, I think that it is better to have a gas car rather than electric.
Hybrid cars use both gas and electric. The gasoline engine is the primary source of power, while the electric motor is used at low speeds. Emissions levels are reduced because the gasoline engine shuts off at low speeds. An additional benefit of the parallel configuration is that no outside source of electric power is required because the engine itself generates the required electricity. A Hybrid Electric Vehicle known as HEV have several advantages over traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles: Regenerative braking capability, which helps minimize the energy lost when driving. Engine is sized to average load, not peak load, which reduces the weight of the engine. Fuel efficiency is greatly increased, while emissions are greatly decreased. HEVs can be operated using alternative fuels; therefore they need not be depended on fossil fuels (http://www.ott.doe.gov/hev/what.html#hev). Another great thing about these machines is the mpg; on the average, a hybrid car gets anywhere from 55-70mpg on the hwy. This is what makes the car all worth having. Now all this sounds good, but there are some issues that must be addressed.
Today, people use their own personal vehicles to travel more than ever before. Personal transportation is no longer considered a luxury; it is now considered a necessity. The number of cars in the United States has been growing steadily since the 1970s. The number of miles traveled by cars has risen nearly 150 percent, yet the United States population has only grown roughly 40 percent during that time (hybridcars.com, Driving Trends). Although it may seem like we are advancing into the future, in reality, we are moving backwards from the effects these vehicles have on our bodies and the environment. The pollution produced by these vehicles has brought us to the day where we must find other modes of transportation that cause less harm to the world in which we live. Advances in technology have developed hybrid vehicles to try and slow down the amount of pollution. Driving a hybrid vehicle, instead of a conventional gas powered vehicle, can reduce the amount of pollution that affects our lives and the environment around us.
The most obvious cost saver would be not getting gas as often or cutting out gas costs altogether. The difference would only be between the all-electric or hybrid versions of these models. Infrastructure, tax breaks, and availability of government subsidies all heavily influence the demand of these cars being incentives to save money (Kihm). It is also a fact that “beyond wiper blades and tires, all-electric vehicles require little maintenance, saving consumers money over the life of the car” (“Top”). They go on to explain that “even the brake pads last longer in electric vehicles because they use regenerative braking to slow down -- a method of converting the energy used to reduce the car’s speed into power that is stored in the car’s battery” (“Top”).
Electric vehicles today come as small as bicycles and motor scooters and as big as buses. In Melbourne, for example, we are using electric powered trams as public transport. Many people fancy electric vehicles because they have many advantages compared to petrol fueled vehicles. The benefits are: • Quiet, Clean Driving Experience On a personal level, electric vehicles offer a quiet, fume-free, smooth driving experience.
Hybrid cars and trucks are beginning to become very popular in our day of time. The inventor and the founder of the hybrid car was Robert Anderson. Anderson was born in Aberdeen, Scotland. He invented the vehicle in 1839. The hybrid vehicles get better gas mileage than most of the older cars and trucks. Most of the new vehicles that are being made today are some sort of hybrid or ecoboost vehicle. Almost all of your car manufacturers today are trying to create new vehicles that conserve gas which is green to the environment. Gas efficient cars are now taking over diesel car and trucks. Diesel cars and trucks usually get pretty bad gas mileage. Most of the big older trucks have a diesel engine in them. Most of the owners of a diesel vehicle usually don’t drive the vehicle much anymore because of horrible gas and diesel prices this day in time.
People who are against buying electric cars might say that electric cars have a very steep purchase price and not everybody can afford them. In response to them, I would say that electric cars do not have an oil engine. Instead of an engine they have batteries, making electric cars very inexpensive to maintain. Electric cars do not need any oil changes, and their brake pads won’t have to be replaced as often as gas-powered vehicles. In addition to not needing to keep up with maintenance costs, there are also state incentives to buying an electric car.
Electric cars were recently introduced to the auto world. They are very fuel efficient while still having all the practicalities of a regular car. They are quiet and have zero emissions. They also are cheaper to maintain and cheaper to own then a gas powered car. Even though car enthusiasts dislike the idea of going fully electric, it is a very conscientious choice. Electric cars might seem like a useless form of transportation, but they offer features that help keep the Earth clean.
Electric cars are becoming increasingly more necessary, and have more advantages than disadvantages. Electric cars help to decrease the noise, pollution as they are much quieter. They do not emit any (or much less) carbon emission than petrol cars. Electric vehicles are the greenest mode of transport in the personal transportation industry. For each litre of fuel used in an engine produces more than 2.5kg of CO2. CO2 will be produced by an electric car but still a very little amount. It is also possible to use renewable power or a green energy supplier in the electric car. Thus it would lead to less polluted and safe working environment for all of us. However, safety is a big concern with using vehicles. The fluids in the batteries actually take impact better than a fully made gas car because it is not that flammable. Petrol cars and diesel cars are more flammable than electric cars so they are greater of taking impact in the event of an accident. I think that this is a very good reason because fewer people would get injured or hurt. This would save money because electricity is cheaper than gas and electric cars are easy to operate. Also is very ECO –friendly which mean that it is cheaper to run and have to pay very little road tax. In a pure electric vehicle there’s nothing combustible and have far fewer moving parts than you would find in a petrol or diesel car.
