Pros And Cons Of Being An Outsider

Being an outsider can have many pros in life. For example, they do not have to worry about peer pressure by others. They also do not worry about what others think of them because they worry about themselves. But being an outsider can also be bad at times. Although outsiders have many pros in not worrying about others and such, being an outsider can also have cons such as no family or friends to rely on, not good social skills, and most outsiders are inside all of the time mostly doing nothing. Outsiders have no friends or family to rely on at times. Such as in “The Metamorphosis” by Franz Kafka, it quotes,”(...) Gregor said to himself sorrowfully, ‘but not for these things. How these lodgers stuff themselves, and I am dying’ ” ( Kafka, 171).

You need them for school, work, and for even making friends. And if you do not have social skills, you will not do good in life. As in Kafka’s “The Metamorphosis” it quotes,” ‘ If he only understood us,’ repeated the father(...) ‘ then perhaps some compromise would be possible with him(...)” (Kafka, 174).This quote from Kafka’s novel shows that since Gregor cannot speak to them clearly because of his voice, his family thinks he does not understand him thus giving them the idea they should kill him since there is nothing left to do. And as great as social skills are in a person’s life, it can be good once in awhile to not have them. For example, if a person is having a bad day and they do not want to be bothered and they are an outsider they will not have to worry. Since they do not talk with people much no one will talk with them, allowing that person to be alone and calm down. It also gives people a lot of personal space, if that person likes personal space. People will not be annoying to that person if he/she is an outsider since they do not talk with anyone. But as much as personal space and no annoying people sound like heaven, outsiders need their social skills. Especially if they want a job, friends, or even a future spouse. And outsiders will not have any of that without their social skills, especially if they are inside doing nothing most of the
