A mercenary is a person, usually a former soldier, who gives up his services to foreign nations for money. Over centuries of fighting, mercenaries have been used by nations to fight their wars. The Ancient Greeks, Romans, Medieval kingdoms, Papal States, and all the way up to the modern United States. Mercenaries are the key to war for many nations, around the world. That is why United States and other nations who are fighting against terrorism are better off using mercenaries.
Many nations in the past have used mercenaries one point in their time to fight a war for them, where their armies can not. This caused a new type of job to be founded for men to do and earn money, “Being a mercenary was once considered an honest albeit bloody trade,

People of nations are becoming more unreliable to help in wars, “But these countries wade into new conflicts - whether in Yemen, Syria or Libya - with militaries that are unused to sustained warfare and populations with generally little interest in military service,” ( Hager and Mazzetti). After so many wars that happened during the 1900s, like World War I, World War II, Vietnam War, Korean War, Gulf War, and many others. Almost all of the people who live in nations do not really look towards military service, they just want to live a peaceful life. But there are still some people who still want to fight for their nations. Nonetheless mercenaries are becoming the biggest part of fighting wars. Nations who use mercenaries, can do it in secret, “In theory, armed forces for hire give private actors the option to wage wars where governments can’t, or won’t,” (Gilsinan). Mercenaries help nations fight in other spots of the world, where they can not. Due to other nations threatening war, if that nation’s army goes to that spot. But mercenaries can be used at those spots, because no one would know who hired them. Making it easier for governments to go after targets and terrorist groups. This is because, mercenary groups which are hired by nations would keep their contractor’s name a secret and would not tell anyone. This is why nations should use mercenaries, because it allows them to …show more content…
There have been more mercenary deaths than military personnel in the Middle East, “Though the Pentagon claims not to keep records on mercenary fatalities, over 1,000 mercenaries are estimated to have been killed in Iraq and another 2,500 in Afghanistan, including eight who worked for the CIA, with thousands more wounded,” (Kuzmarov). Even if there are more mercenary deaths in the wars, where we use mercenaries more. At least we are saving our own troops’ lives, we are letting them go home and see their families again. While mercenaries do this job for money and not that much for their country needs, like our military are made up of volunteers who do not want to die. “I do this job for the opportunity to kill the enemies of my country and also to get that boat I always wanted. . . . When engaged I lay waste to everything around me,” (Contractor slogan/Kuzmarov). We can still keep these mercenaries alive, if we just train them better, “He would see the shocking behaviour of other PMcs, particularly Americans, and think that at least he wasn’t like them. But it still comes down to money,” (Saner). Another problem for mercenaries are that they basically can do anything they want in foreign countries. The mercenaries could maybe end up shooting a whole town in the Middle East, where it is believed that there are terrorist or there are terrorist targets there. While they would probably get away with the crime and still get
The Vietnam War was the most publicized war during its era; moreover this was the most unpopular war to hit the United States. All over the country riots began to raise, anti-war movement spread all over the states begging to stop the war and chaos overseas. This truly was a failure in the political side of things. For the public, all they saw was a failed attempt in a far away country. Events such as the Tet Offensive where the North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong established an all out attack on key locations around Vietnam, and although the Viet Cong was virtually wiped out, this still had a large affect psychologically on the troops as well as the populist back in the United States. Another atrocity that occurred during this war was the My Lai Massacre. This was the mass murder on unarmed civilians in South Vietnam during March 16,1968. Around November 1969, the world saw this and was outraged with the killings of innocent civilians prompting and giving the public more reasons to stop the war. Although the war was very unpopular, men and women were still fighting and dying for America. Heroes such as Captain John W, Ripley of Dong Ha, Medal of Honor recipients, and overall troops that gave the ultimate sacrifice were forgotten for a brief period. As unpopular as the war was, the American people should still know the stories and good that some of these troops had done for the United States.
The draft is something young men fear and crave. Some fear they will lose everything, die or just not be the same if they get picked. I have met young men who cannot be in the military due to family issues, so the draft would come as a blessing. The draft is also very random, so both of those boys' chances of getting picked is also very slim. The draft reminds me of The Reaping from The Hunger Games, we pick your name out of a bowl and the magic of selection will decide if you go or not. Then your skill set will determine how long you live in battle. May the odds be ever in your favor, and don't forget that you're and accountant and have no hand-eye coordination! There are plenty of volunteers in America that will gladly serve our country if we need more soldiers, I personally think the wars have past their expiration date, and there are other jobs people can do
Today we live in a world where war never sleeps. War is a term used to explain conflict between two nations, or within a nation. This particular war was between two nations, Mexico and the United States. About a century and a half ago in 1846, on what was thought to be the Mexican-American border, many American and Mexican soldiers lost their lives. The war was an on-going feud, that had and still has many pros and cons. The U.S. was unjustified in going to war with Mexico because many U.S. citizens disagreed and sided with Mexico. Mexico owned and took care of the land first, and the United States deliberately caused this war to occur. As awesome as a
In the world’s lens during the 1760s, the British empire had a clear and prominent control over the colonies. However, by the mid-1770s the Americans became enraged enough to declare war against the British for independence. Due to Britain’s massive imperial presence around the globe, the British civilians had a strong inclination for a successful outcome. Instead, the colonists pulled a surprising victory from what should have been a swift defeat. While the British had an abundance of advantages, they lost the Revolutionary War because the British army underestimated the colonists’ perseverance for freedom.

I think the United States Army has its own type of community. Although some may be better than others may, The Army has a very special outlook on the world. As a diverse entity when it comes to the race and nationality of a person, the way individuals and groups looks on the military says it all. People look at active duty soldiers, as well as veterans many different ways.
The current system of deciding who goes to war in Australia is that the Prime Minister and the Cabinet decide. The Cabinet contains of about 30 people who are either senior Ministers of the Queen or people who are responsible to Parliament. Although the Parliament and public have no say in whether Australia goes to war or not. In section 68 of the Australian Constitution is mentions that the ‘control over the country’s naval and military forces is vested in the Governor General as the Queen’s representative’ The people deciding are experienced about deciding who goes to war as they have all the facts, I think this is the best way to decide who or if Australia goes to war or not for many reasons, although there are some cons about this way of deciding.
By 700 CE it was custom for knights to become vassals, meaning that lords had high economic status: only the wealthy could afford horses, which were necessary to become an effective soldier. Since shortly before the feudal age, the army with better horsemen was victorious more often in battle. This lead to horses being valued and important, which is why vassals were usually rich.

People become spies to become loyal to their country. Spies played a huge role in World War 2. After the war people didn’t really talk about them as much as they use to. Spies are people gathering secret information from their enemy and taking it to another person to help their country win the war. Spies had very fancy but intelligent gadgets that they took with them so that they could have a weapon on them without it being noticed by the enemy.
Humans, in general, are relatively destructive creatures. Since the dawn of man, bloodshed is common. War is, by definition, a human creation. However, humans rationalize war with more noble ideals: courage, pride, etc. Nations raise their warriors up as heroes, and in some cases, treat them like gods; Samurai, Aztec, Gladiator, Marine. All warriors from different times and all wielding different weapons. But all have one core thing in common. All are murderers. What sets these men apart from criminals? Is it a cause? Does fighting for a country forgive the many families left without a loved one? The answer to these questions is simply a matter of human emotion. Like most humans, most of these warriors had empathy for their opponents
A soldier, conscripted or not, will face many stresses during their career. Serving for any amount of time is a trial, but some are more suited to the military than others. A drafted soldier may go through their entire mandatory term feeling miserable and insufficient, completely overwhelmed by the tasks that military professionals easily complete. These pressures and the denial of a choice of career should not be placed on any person. The idea of a two-year term of mandatory military service being implanted has been brought up. Military service should not be mandatory not only because it violates fundamental individual rights of humans, but also due to the fact that a military based on volunteers would operate much more impressively than one comprised of conscripted soldiers who would not have chosen to serve otherwise.
Every day we are surrounded by stories of war. In fact, we have become so accustomed to it, that we are now entertained by it. Video games, movies, and books filled with heroes who once dominated the battlefields. However it is constantly stated, “no good comes from war.” Even famous songs state “war... what is it good for… absolutely nothing.” But what if war was actually necessary? Throughout history, we see examples of the good things wars have brought. War has freed slaves, modernized medicine, brought down evil empires, and even brought countries together
