Proposition 56: Argumentative Analysis

There are many propositions on the 2016 election ballot to be voted on by the California people this year. I picked a proposition that I feel strongly about which is Proposition 56, that if passed will increase the tax on tobacco products.
Proposition 56 is an initiative measure that if passed would add a section to the California Constitution and will also amend and add sections to the Revenue and Taxation Code. The name of the proposed law is The California Healthcare, Research, and Prevention Tobacco Act of 2016.
Many supporters of this proposition are hospitals, democratic parties, many civic and environmental organizations and Tom Steyer. Proposition 56 would add Section 23 to Article XVI and Section 14 to Article XIII B both of the California Constitution. The voters of California have proposed this initiative in hopes to save lives and to save state and government funds in the future by decreasing the amount of tobacco products consumed by citizens. As a Licensed Vocational Nurse I see up close and personal on a daily basis the affects that smoking have on the human body and the problems it leads to with continued use. It is a very sad thing to see a person come into the hospital with a disease that is actively taking their life and know that tobacco had a large part if not the entire reason why they are now in this awful state. These are diseases that are completely preventable and easy to avoid by just abstaining from the disease causing substance which in this case is obviously
