Computer Science is one the fastest growing industries in America and worldwide. Employment in all computer science occupations is expected to increase by 22% through 2020. That projected increase is appealing to a large portion of current and future college students. The competition of finding a job in the future market is going to grow ever more difficult along side the employment increase. Getting the correct skills from a Computer Science degree is key to separating yourself from the completion.
An Associate’s Degree in Computer Science and Information Systems is extremely diverse in order to prepare students for a specific Computer Science fields. The choices in the real world are vast and sometimes overwhelming when trying to decide a specific field of study. This is the problem that I ran into when deciding my major.
The methods in place are great for people who are trying to specialize in a certain subject. The only problem other students and I ran into is that there isn’t much help when trying to figure which certificates to chose from. The purpose of this proposal is to demonstrate why I decided to make a minor change in my field of study, and how Salt Lake Community College could improve their Computer Science Programs. The proposed ideas could aid students greatly when trying to compete against other graduates.
In this proposal, I will first discuss the current situation in the Computer Science Field based off of my research. Second, I will discuss my qualifications and why my suggestions matter. Third, I will offer a plan to improve the current degree system. Finally, I will discuss some costs and benefits to my proposal.

He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Information Systems, and he oversees all the operations relating to programming and networking between Metasource’s multiple locations. He states that there is a high importance in programming languages such as C# and PHP because they can be used within intricate websites. He also states that C is an important language to learn because it can be used as base for learning C++, C#, and Objective-C. Most jobs that require web design require that you know C# and PHP, but neither these nor C are offered at Salt Lake Community College.
My Plan
Providing high quality education to paying college students doesn’t require a complete overhaul of the current system in place at Salt Lake Community College. It only requires minor adjustments. Success can be achieved by following these objectives:
Sports, Violence and Alcohol - Three things considered to be in line with masculinity, Along with alot of things considered to be primal instinct. In america the prevalence and Sports, Violence and Beer exceeds most others leading to the general conclusion that America’s men are overall muscle bound meatheads who enjoy nothing but their primal urges. Clearly this is false but still an assumption made by those who only know these three things. As technology advances a new element of entertainment emerges, containing violence, sports and entertainment, Its videogames. Video Games muster together Guns, Violence, Sex, Alcohol, Sports and more Violence. From this description its easy to see why this would be a male oriented activity. At the time girls were still expected to be relatively lady-like. Yet as the years pass by, girls begin to play the video games which guys have been playing for years this causes a disparity between male and female gamers in the upcoming years.
Attendance at a technical college or local 2-year school was deplorably referenced to as “loser’s territory” and if you dared to enroll in one anyway and followed through to graduation, well you were congratulated but to a lackluster fanfare. Some community college graduates still receive this reception upon exit of a community college but attitudes are definitely changing. Today more than ever, degree-seeking individuals are paving the path to their careers through the entrance and exit doors of community colleges. These well-informed leaders of the new school have realized a smarter way to education; that a bachelor’s degree or taking a traditional route to obtain one is not necessarily the best or right way to be a successful and employable member of society.

With every year that passes we as a human species grow more relying on computer technologies’. That is the biggest reason I have chosen to study computers and all the great tools computers offer us. I know there is a job in computer out there for me and for anyone else that is interested in the computer field.
The Computer Science Major involves creating programs in order to solve a problem or to complete a task. While it has many similarities to the other ITC majors, it is also different in many ways. Computer Science is unique in that it mainly focuses on making programs. It is a more conceptual study of programming. In other words, its focus is more about ideas and concepts than it is about business application. One more thing that makes this major unique is its heavy use of math and problem solving skills. These skills are very important to the major, because almost everything in Computer Science involves numbers. Another very important characteristic of Computer Science is the frequent use of variables and algorithms.
I was first introduced to the real world CS and programming languages in Grade 9. I learned Java for 4 years and watching my code execute correctly was always delightful. And that is when I decided that I wanted to pursue CS. At UCI, I learned Python in my first year and currently I am learning C++. Some assignments have really blown me away as I was able to connect the dots between different concepts and produce results. To get exposed to CS, I job shadowed a Web Developer and a Director of Operation. To gain new skills, I did a research project in areas of crowdsourcing where I learned Django and applied my knowledge in creating a website with other teammates using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I worked on IoT and Augmented Reality as a summer intern. I am currently working on Augmented Reality as an intern, this quarter. I believe that learning and applying are different things and unless you are able to develop or progress by applying your knowledge you won’t know if you have indeed trodden the path of mastering it. I am grateful to have several opportunities to help me grow and advance in CS.

Within the past few decades computer literacy has become a skill necessary to any modern profession as well as a valuable skill used in daily life. Recent advances in computer technology have created many decent paying occupations as well. These occupations require educated professionals to fill them, but there is a shortage of people who are capable of filling the empty positions. Due to the lack people who are qualified to fill the positions a gap has been created and the school system has taken notice of it by promoting STEM oriented classes or by their more common name Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics classes. These classes however are all specialized and elective classes which makes them susceptible to budget cuts and shortages of educators who are capable of teaching the classes. Due to these problems many schools have dropped the technology field of these classes, which was the cause for a U.S. News statistic that stated that “Nine out of ten schools do not offer computer science classes”. as of now “from what can be learned from the U.S. News statistic” only 10% of schools to have access to computer science which is unacceptable due to it being a direct contradiction of equality in schools. Now more than any other point in the education system these classes must be recreated to accommodate and treat fairly the large number of students who want to become a part of the rapidly expanding computer science industry.
Therefore, I have always been interested in the field of engineering, for it embodies my favorite subjects. As my physics professor talks of electromagnetic and electric fields between all protons and elections, my mind beams with pleasure, for the new information is of such fascination to it. As my calculus teacher frantically writes the equations of integrals on the board, I jot down the notes with a clear understanding of what the signs stand for and the logic behind them. Then at home, I happily turn on my computer and ponder the genius of artificial intelligence. There is no way I am going to leave these beloved fields of study behind-therefore, Electrical and Computer Engineering would be perfect for me. Engineering is a major that is expected to continue experiencing growth, especially strong in areas emphasizing technology. Our society is becoming more technologically driven day by day, and is always on the look-out for expansion and exploration into the scientific front and increasing efficiency. By choosing engineering as a profession, I am able to contribute to the well-being of the society as well as rigorously challenging my intellectual abilities. Although both frustration and jubilation will ensue as I endeavor to find creative solutions to difficult problems, my proficiency in achieving the task would leave me satisfied in life. Carnegie Mellon would help me develop a sense of how to handle myself academically, socially, and personally. My major in Electrical and Computer Engineering would allow me to dive into an ocean full of opportunities and adventures. Alive with fresh ideas waiting to be discovered, Carnegie Mellon will prepare me for life itself, helping in shaking my sense of the world by allowing me to gain the knowledge necessary to achieve my goals as I search for success and
