Dodge Chrysler
The Dodge brothers (John and Horace) got their start making parts for Ford and other automobile makers. From the first Dodge Brothers automobile in 1914, the Dodge brothers' durability and quality have earned the Dodge Company a strong reputation and good sales. After the death of both Dodge brothers, the company started selling 1.5 ton trucks. The postwar Dodge trucks were introduced at the same time as GM and Ford trucks, Dodge managed to beat both those larger companies in sales. In 1971, dodge introduced its "Lifestyle" trucks, designed to meet the needs of families who used them mainly for towing trailers on vacations but also for harsh towing jobs in general. It was rugged, yet comfortable to ride in and not too hard to drive.
Recently Daimler Benz, maker of the Mercedes Benz, buys Chrysler. Chrysler customers are not sure whether they should remain loyal to the vehicles they grew up with, or buy another car not manufactured by the German. When the new better looking, better handling, more reliable models come out, they got over it pretty quick.
Promotion
Dodge has revamped their marketing strategy and tactics since Daimler Benz bought the company. Dodge use to promote family vehicles that were reliable, affordable and mainly workhorses with not much style or class. Dodge now provides the exact same image with increased reliability and much more style and class than other brands for the same affordable price.
Dodge conducts the majority of their promotions threw television but have also done radio, print, Internet and publicity. An example of a television promotion would be when a middle class couple are leaving their average family home with children and are very well dressed on their way to a fabulous night out on the town in style and luxury. They arrive at an obviously expensive restaurant and valet park their Dodge Ram Quad Cab. This promotion portrays the image that even a family and work vehicle can still be classy or sporty enough to take part in luxurious night life and still be affordable. This promotion is directed toward all families including the higher class of financial standing.
An example of how Dodge used publicity as a form of promotion would be when the Dodge Ram won Truck of the Year four times consecutively. This award was not only widely promoted threw publicity but threw print as well. Billboards have shown a sporty Dodge Ram SRT with the Truck of the Year trophy.
Have you ever been watching TV and seen a car commercial that says, “ Come on down to your local Ford Automotive, and you can get a car of your choice for just $129 a month (Spitzer, 2003).” Some have even used lines like, “Do whatever you have to do push, pull or drag your car in, and drive away in a brand new car” (Spitzer, 2003). The commercial may never stop to give you the details of the qualification requirements for the cars. So making those push or pull journeys to the dealer ends up costing you more money than you expected. This type of TV commercial can be confusing to many consumers, and end up misleading the consumer into a deal they did not expect.
Dodge was the best selling truck in 2009, so why not own a Dodge? Chevys aren't comfortable for the passengers in the vehicle. Fords aren't the best selling vehicles in 2009 because they didn't have as many good accessories or as much power as the Dodge does. The Dodge is the best selling truck in 2009 because they are comfortable and they provide excellent storage for tools or baggage; proving to be a great work truck. Dodge is a better choice than other leading brands because they are more dependable and have better appearance and power.
Other commercials, according to Solomon, thrive on fitting in. The Chevrolet commercials have a slogan that makes one feel to be American, one must by American. Chevrolet's slogan is 'The Heartbeat of America.'; Car commercials also have targeted markets also. For a truck commercial, they will show a truck getting all dirty and going through an obstacle. This is targeted towards men because most men find these things appealing. For a luxury car commercial the mood or the commercial is nice and pleasant, the car is on a country road (representing one driving to there country home). These cars were once targeted towards upper class people, but now they are targeted towards everyone according to Solomon. A commercial strives on the ever so enduring drive for Americans to have better things and climb up the social status ladder. Marketers know this, so they place normal, average, everyday looking people in their commercials to let middle class people know that they can have the car, too.
Everyone loves old people. The elderly as a whole are viewed as a wise, tough, and compassionate group. Dodge takes advantage of this fact in their most recent commercial featuring elderly people who are all around 100 years old, to associate their brand as a well established, trustworthy, and reliable company. The ad is effective in leveraging the wisdom and knowledge of the elderly while associating Dodge as a brand that utilizes ethos, pathos, and logos in their commercials. Dodge takes advantage of societies general admiration and trust in general for the elderly and use these feelings to try and persuade people to purchase their vehicle, in particular the Dodge Challenger.
Chrysler is an American automobile production company, which was first founded by Walter Chrysler in 1925. ...ife magazine from 1951, the advertisement for general motors shows a bunch of cars in what appears to be a wealthy town, and says that the general motor is the key to a richer life. Another advertisement from 1951, pictures a red shiny car with a woman in the background who seems to be wealthy based on her clothes, and at the bottom, it says that a beautiful dream can come true. What the car advertisements are saying about class is that the wealthy are the ones that own these enjoyable materialistic objects, because no where in the advertisements are there people who appear to be poor; the advertisements only include people who seem to be wealthy or at least middle class. The advertisements are trying to express, that by owning one of these cars it can give one status and power. Fundamentally, the companies are trying to sell the lifestyle that the car can give.
Advertisements have become more unique and creative since the 1940’s. They not only cater to the family life, but also the single life. Automobile advertisements in the 1940’s were directed towards the modern family. Although there are still automobile advertisements that show happy families in nice cars; there are also advertisements for certain vehicles that are more geared towards single people. Marketing is constantly changing to meet what the majority population wants or needs.
Despite nearing bankruptcy on a few occasions, the company finally took off with the launch of their first car- the Model A, and by 1920 approximately 60% of all automobiles on the road were Ford. Today Ford is the largest truck maker and the number two manufacturer of cars in North America, producing an average of eight cars or trucks per minute. The Ford Motor Company employs 371 702 people at over 2400 branches in 33 countries and sells automobiles in over 200 markets.
First off, advertisements aim to deceive United States inhabitants into thinking that they can move up the social stratification. Jack Solomon, a semiotician depicts, “Americans, dream of rising above the crowd, of attaining a social summit beyond the reach of ordinary citizens. And therein lies the paradox” (Solomon 402). This connotes that, without inequality there is no such thing as being at the top in terms of social status. Advertisements create the falsehood that in America anyone can make their dreams as far as owning luxurious goods to be considered part of the upper class, a reality. The Chevrolet advertisement printed in red, white, and blue ink with the word “HOPE” printed under the image of
Advertising in the 50s was primarily focused on the return of traditional family values, and portraying the consumer’s role in society’s prestige. But, during the recession of 1959 to 1961, the time was ripe for some innovation in the advertising industry. Surly enough, a single ad appeared that changed the course of advertising history. The Volkswagen Beetle, a seemingly ugly car with all odds against it in the American market of huge, tail-finned vehicles of the 1950s, surprisingly prospered. The advertisement campaign broke all previous rules of using wide-angle photography, and beautiful women. These advertisements stole the American hearts with their wit and honesty.
Porsche came out with the models of 914 and 944 because they take the consumers with lower income into account during the recession of 1970s. They redesign, reposition and reprice the vehicles so that it is allow the consumers to purchase the product for the purpose of social class, family needs or status. With this, Porsche still able to create loyal customers even if the economic situation did affected their business when they have considered their customers’ personal income, savings and interest
consumption of the car but this backs up the point that the Chrysler is a car for a sensible family person because that is the kind of person who would show interest in the economics of the car. Both of the adverts have main points that they want you to focus on as well. soon as you look at them, on the Chrysler advert the first thing they want you to focus on is the name of the car and the price which are
The mass media advertising implemented by Harley-Davidson is intended to reach as many members of the general public as possible. Generally, this type of advertisement is used because of its depth in effectively reaching people. These ads are intended to target both potential repeat customers as well as first time buyers. Locally, C&S Harley-Davidson uses direct mailings to specifically target previous owners of their motorcycles as well as owners of competing brands.
Advertising and sales promotions pay a major role in establishing brand equity. Advertising is a promotional strategy with the intent to attract and create interest and desire to increase purchases and brand awareness. An example of advertising would be a television commercial for a new laptop showing all of the new or updated features.
... The relationship between manufacturers, dealers, suppliers and customers has dramatically improved. In fact, Ford has been the only one of the three big automobile companies in Detroit not to accept a U.S. government bail-out or file for bankruptcy protection, as its rivals General Motors and Chrysler did last year. According to the Wall Street Journal, Ford sales in April 2010 climbed to 25% as compared to GM’s 7.2%.
