Personal Story In a majority of novels, movies, or any form of story-telling the protagonist goes through great life changing trials and stands at the end of his journey victorious; however, the world we live in works much differently than that. Our lives are filled with monotonous, repetitive, stressful situations that wear us down and eventually we come to the conclusion that this is the norm. We learn from a very young age to just take whatever comes our way, like having a pet run away, experiencing the death of a close relative, or getting bullied for being too short in high school. Eventually we learn to learn to just take the hits because the matter of the fact is, life takes way too much and gives very little in return, that is assuming …show more content…
that you get anything in return in the first place. However, there are only a handful of days in your entire life that you will cherish with everything in your heart because those are the days that everything went your way and then some more, unfortunately those days are only preceded by months of hellish proportions. To give you a little context this is the story of why I moved away from Memphis, Tennessee and into Cookeville. It was April of 2015 and I was finally turning eighteen and what was more interesting is that prom was finally coming around the corner, and now being a senior in highschool I had a shot at going. Even though I was well liked by most and was adored by others, very few people actually found me attractive and there were even fewer I shared a mutual attraction with, and at that moment I had only one chance and that was to ask out the most attractive girl at my school, Emily. However, being a huge fan of procrastination I decided to put it off til the second to last day to sign up for prom. Why you may ask? Well you see she was having problems with a former ex boyfriend, who had himself a problem of letting go. However there was one positive thing about having Arron around and it's that both me and Emily hated him, but it wasn’t just us, it was more like everyone who ever met him. Maybe it was his pasty skin or the fact that he always squinted his eyes like he was having to look at the sun, but the reason why I hated him solely rested on the fact that he had a habit of warming up to people only to stab them in the back. Fortunately for me he was long gone and I finally had the chance to ask Emily to prom, to which she said yes.
Eventually prom day came to pass, and things could not be looking better for me. I was wearing a black suit and vest sporting a bow tie and a white button up shirt, while she was wearing a dazzling blue dress and her blond hair tied up in a way that made the other girls writhe in envy. When we arrived to the prom parking lot she turned and said “Man it’s pretty cold out.”unaware of what she meant I replied, “I thought you brought a jacket with you?” she rolled her eyes, “I do but It’s not that warm, because it only goes down to the waist.” safely protected from the cold winds by my own jacket I replied, “Well then what's the purpose of that jacket if it doesn’t keep you warm.” Letting out a sigh of defeat Emily opened the car and retrieved her jacket. Noticing a disturbance of some kind I began to search for clues, and upon entry to prom I noticed that every prom date was wearing a black jacket. I was immediately filled with shame that I had failed to pick up on the oldest trick in the book, but fortunately for me whatever I lacked in romance, I made up with spontaneous fun and excitement. About halfway through the night I noticed that Emily was sitting down looking at her phone with a vexed look on her face. Doing my best to navigate amongst dancing teenagers, I made my way to her table to see what was wrong. She then explained to me that this guy has been
endlessly texting her for about a month and she can’t get him to stop. I then asked to see the messages after which I scrolled through paragraph after paragraph, realising that whoever this is will not stop unless she made it clear as day that she did not want to talk to him. I asked her if I could send a quick text to make this stalker stop, and after a quick approval from Emily I sent the message “k cool” in response to his four paragraphs, after which the messages stopped and we danced into the night. Shortly after prom my class graduated and after saying our farewells, and everyone went their separate ways including me. However two months into the summer I decided to hangout with my friends and watch some movies at their house. So far the day was filled with potential and I had no cares in the world, except for the fact that I looked back at prom and wished I gave my jacket to my date, none the less I was excited to spend the day with my friends. That was until
"The greatest barrier to success is the fear of failure" - Sven Goran Eriksson. Success is an achievement in life which most people would be appreciative towards, but failure is looked upon in a disgraceful manner. People in society tend to face many challenges that occur in their daily lives. Some of these challenges can affect their lives dramatically in a positive or negative way. If one decides not to surmount their challenges they will suffer within themselves for a long period of time. Having confidence within is considered the greatest way to overcome suffering in life. In the novel, The Shipping News, by Annie Proulx, Quoyle deals with many difficult challenges along his life journey by suffering from bad childhood experiences which led him to have a low self confidence, which later on affected him in adulthood as well. All of Quoyle?s life decisions at first were base on him listening to others and continuing life suffering through it day by day but afterwards in the novel near the end, he experiences happiness for the first time. If someone is unable to overcome their bad experiences and fears in the past then they cannot be successful in the future. Also, a person should be strong and have faith in themselves to overcome their fears to fain the joy and happiness in their life. The modern day hero is distinguished as a hero with both successes and failures. A hero?s successes are determined by the hero?s power within themselves to overcome fears and obstacles and failures are determined by the hero?s weak point or flaw which leads to their predicted downfall and portrays them as an atypical hero. A hero can be depicted as an atypical hero at first but can still gain the success and happiness they longed for in the end.
As the story comes to its conclusion, the hero has endured his hardships; he went from the one that started fights to the one that thought of what could make everything work. An ordinary person in an ordinary world faced his share of trials and tribulations to come out as a new person. Defining the hero myth—he struggled and still was able to triumph to his prize at the end ; individuals relish these type of stories, they can
It is the challenges we face that make it look dark and gloomy. The key to a productive existence is not the emotions we feel when presented with adversity, but in our ability to overcome, grow and evolve. In comparison, examine the Spoken Indian searching for hope in hardships, or the extraordinary taste and smell of the wine connoisseur who lacks sight. See the trial & errors or the young man growing to love both parents, and the college student whose heart is blistering with pain from the loss of his mother, but finds healing in his new home as an emerging scholar. We are all exploring methods to handle
Mr. Green said, “The real hero’s journey from strength to weakness.” Surprisingly the uniquely unwanted situations created by these phases is the best part of the game called “life.” It is the journey that matters, because the harsh truth is, that the destination of human kind is death. A great example of one of these phases would be a college student graduating and stepping into the real world. The strength in is this particular situation is the college degree that is obtained by the student and just the feeling of being at a good point in life and just the great satisfaction , until of course the weaknesses slowly builds with time in this entirely new phase called reality. Many students come to realize after college that the amount of money they need to pay back in student loans is extremely enormous and that to for a person that doesn’t have a job. On top of that in the real world, you’re nobody with no identity and most the time people just don’t care for you. So you start to feel worthless even with a college degree and you just have no support system to guide you to your comfort zone. However there is good news also. Mr. Green says that due to the situation, it will help a person not be a jerk. Which is always good to have morality on your side. In this stage of life a person has to work hard make his/her identity and become self-motivated to find a great job. Which helps a person grow in their experience in their field. These stages only do well for people and makes them a stronger person. Every phase is like a test once you pass you’re ready to start again on the bottom of the next phase. Then the cycle just repeats and this will help you empathize or even be a mentor to a
In conclusion, to the above points, anyone is capable of triumphing over adversity. No matter how hard the circumstances are, each individual is able to. Unfortunately for some, they lack the need to triumph and in the end fail to beat adversity. Passion and commitment is all it takes to knock down those barriers and succeed in life. “Become the person you have always dreamt of being”.
Failure can cause a torrent of mixed emotions and thoughts. One can begin to doubt their motives for even attempting to succeed at a certain task. Some people may choose to give up after failure, but there are a select few who rise up to the occasion and move forward to try and succeed no matter how many tries it takes. By overcoming those difficult moments in life, it gives a person a sense of accomplishment and pride and that alone is a beautiful thing.
I was strolling down the hallway, trying to figure out where my class would be, when I bumped into a girl. “Oh goodness! I am so sorry. I wasn 't looking," she said and bent down to grab my file and books even before I could. I sighed and replied, “No, it 's fine." I wiped the sweat, which I had accumulated from walking all over the school, off my forehead. She stood up and handed me my books. I realized she was also a freshman by her orange colored uniform. She flipped her hair and said while grinning," Let me introduce myself. I 'm Natasha. I 'm from Canada so I don 't really know much about this town. How about you?" Even though I had never met her before, I could tell she seemed nice so I introduced myself. I had to make a judgment to decide whether to befriend the girl or not. Little did I know this stranger was
“There’s a divinity that shapes our ends, Rough-hew them how we will” (Shakespeare). In life we all have a route that we are supposed to follow to achieve our goal. Our attitude towards the path to achieve that goal is what will shape our ends. Our reactions to our obstacles we face are what are going to set us through the path. Shakespeare was trying to have an overall theme throughout his tragedies, to get through obstacles to keep continuing on the path to our overall achievement in life.
Everyone has trials and tribulations in life , and everyone has obstacles to overcome. What I have learned and reflected from journey is that, I am a better person because of what I have been through. If you take the easy road through life, you will never become strong minded or dedicated to anything. This is why I chose my education to be my greatest accomplishment, because I can truly say I worked hard for
Have you ever been nervous and excited for something at the same time? That is how I felt during my last year of high school leading all the way up to graduation. I had never sat down and figured out what I wanted to do with my life; I would always pick something then switch to something else almost immediately. Graduation day was that epiphany for me that I really had no idea what I was going to do with my life even though I was accepted to LSU and declared a major in Computer Science.
I never went to a single formal dance until my senior year. On nights when there was a
It was one of the most exciting and nerve racking days of our lives. Although we were finally leaving high school, the feeling of being unsure didn’t go away. The whole day was full of practicing for the big moment when the entire class graduated on to a new beginning. All the girls wore shiny bright red robes and the guys were dressed in a shiny navy blue. Standing there, I had no idea what to expect. Some things I were aware of, my friends were leaving and we wouldn’t be the same friends anymore. My role was that of being so aware of the future that I was too shocked to soak in the present; being a pessimist was my main goal and everything I was sure of became true.
Life isn’t going to go the way you want it to.” (Vanderwerf 1) Mark Weber said to a group of students over a live videoconference. Life has its ups and downs, and certain people get thrown harder than others, but we all have hardships that we must face. We flourish from our mistakes and the aching we face in our lifetime. But how do we do it, how do people keep pushing through when everything feels like it is ending? What is shouting at them in the back of their mind that keeps them moving forward?
People don't truly accept life for what it is until they've actually tasted adversity and went through those misfortunes and suffering. We are put through many hardships in life, and we learn to understand and deal with those issues along the way. We find that life isn't just about finding one's self, but about creating and learning from our experiences and background. Adversity shapes what we are and who we become as individuals. Yann Martel's Life of Pi shows us that adverse situations help shape a person's identity and play a significant role in one's lief by determining one's capabilities and potential, shaping one's beliefs and values, and defining the importance and meaning of one's self.
It seemed that segregation was an idea that has been obsolete in the United States for more than fifty years. However for Charleston, Mississippi it is another story. Charleston High School originally became an integrated high school in 1970. Since then, the seniors at Charleston High School always have had segregated proms -- a white prom and a black prom. In the documentary you see the students worried about the prom, their parents reactions and their future .In 1997, actor Morgan Freeman, a citizen of Charleston, offered to fund the prom if the school had one integrated prom. His offer was ignored. Ten years later, in 2008, Freeman generously offered again. This is where the story begins.
