During the early 1920a and up to the early 1930s the United States of America entered a time that brought forward a series of regulations that prohibited the sale, manufacture and distribution of alcohol in the American territories. Through out history, experts have developed many hypotheses trying to determine the effects brought forward by this prohibition. Furthermore, these experts are also trying to determine whether national prohibition is to be considered a failure or success towards alcohol regulation. The 1920s national prohibition of production and consumerism of alcohol can be considered a national economic and regulation failure that brings forward laws that impact society and international relations today. Although the National Prohibition Act, known as the Volstead Act, enacted on the year 1919 was designed to support the 18th amendment of the constitution, American leaders often times found it difficult to enforce the Prohibition Act. The act was enacted to “prohibit intoxicated beverages and to regulate the manufacture, production, use and sale of high proof spirits for other than beverage purposes…” The newly enacted prohibition act was brought forward to aid the American leaders to enforce the 18th amendment to the constitution. The idea was to have the working class collaborate with the constitution regulations towards enforcing this new law. This act impacted the way that government regulated society on a daily basis. While attempting to continue to enforce the National Prohibition Act, often times government leaders found themselves seeking new ways to prevent the smuggling and trafficking of alcohol. The increasing penalties for getting caught as a drunk driver have increased over the years. The government has taken measures to educate teenagers about the dangers of drinking and driving and the many lives that could be lost. Schools such as Los Amigos High School have taken the responsibility to educate these teens towards the dangers of drinking and driving with the assistance of The National Every 15 Minutes Organization (www.every15minutes.com). This organization seeks to give students the opportunity to feel first hand the effects of drinking and driving with out the risk. Measures such as the ones taken through the Every 15 Minutes Organization would not be taken if the institutions and people had not sought to end prohibition and still try to protect the lives of those that they care about.
