Individuality has become more predominant now than it ever has. Being different is now worshipped upon unlike earlier years where if you were different it was frowned upon. Although individuality can be a great asset to a personality or even fashion choices; often times it can lead to inappropriate and distasteful clothing. I am an advocate for high school uniforms for many reasons: professionalism in schools, decreased dress code infractions, and decreased judgement from other students.
As high school students move up in the workforce, soon the secret will be revealed that sweats and sweatshirts are no longer acceptable day by day. Introducing professionalism early on in their young adult life will prepare them for later on when casual clothing is no longer an option. Many believe while dressing professionally the students will in turn also act professionally. If students have the mindset of not caring what they look like on a daily basis, but they will also get the mindset of not caring about school and education. If students dress like they do not care; they will act like they do not care.
As for my high school dress code infractions take place on a daily basis. Because of schools enforcing such strict limitations on dress codes, many students will be issued a detention for inappropriate attire. Infractions never give an impressive

impression on a student's nor the school's record, and with the enforcement of school uniforms the infractions will decline at a fast rate. High schools are filled with cliques, social pyramids, and "posses." Although movies such as Mean Girls and The Breakfast Club are an exaggeration of typical high school behaviors; the harsh and cruel perceptions made in both movies are a daily occurrence.
Name brand clothing is placed as such an important factor in a social setting; consequently, the students who cannot afford such expensive clothing are therefore discharged from the "crew." Many adults would be appalled at the statements made from one student to another over such inconsequential situations. Uniforms would cap the measure of harsh behavior between
students. School uniforms would prevent many problems in schools as well as introduce professionalism to the young students. Not only will students have the professional mindset on education, but will also be prepared for the appropriate etiquette of the workforce. Individuality is important; however, so is feeling content and confident about yourself and what you are able to become. Uniforms would motivate students to drive themselves to levels of education that was once not a priority. All high schools should consider making a superior school environment by enforcing uniforms.
As unnecessary, to most students, as it may seem, school uniforms can actually carry a lot of potent. According to a bulletin produced by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, it stated that “When all students are wearing the same outfit, they are less concerned about how they look and how they fit in; thus, they can concentrate on their schoolwork.” Students do not have to emphasize on what to wear to school each day; they tend to focus more on their education rather than to learn who is wearing the latest fashion trend. Students may start to digress to a point where they are even clueless about what they had learned during their entire school year. It is saddening to realize that these students would prioritize their clothing over their education instead. Providing uniforms to the students would have a tremendous effect over these students and the school systems. Students would not have to spend great amounts of money on clothing in order to receive the praise or attention of their friends and/or family; vice-versa, students who don’t have the money to afford the latest clothing will not have to suffer the gossips of their poor taste of
"Dress Code!" MasterFILE Complete. Educational Leadership, Dec.-Jan. 2014-2015. Web. 18 Feb. 2016. This article comes from the point of view of a school principal Thomas R. Hoerr. Hoerr starts of with a comment that was made to him about a young girl and what she was wearing. The comment referred to her undergarments. The author continues to explain the two points he learned, and because of those points, he made his school a casual place. The dress code he established only proclaims to be “neat and clean.” The author saw no problem until the attire came so close as to be dressing at the beach, so he conducted a meeting with his staff and decided something should be said. When the author wrote the work dress guidelines, he got the input of the teachers and what should be expected by each guideline. However, the author only sent out the draft to people who had worked with him for fifteen or more years, so the question arose that the world is changing and he needed opinions from younger teachers. When he received feedback, he was questioned on if some codes really made a difference, and he made some changes. Next Hoerr tells his readers that when they give a restriction on something, they must have a rational reason why. Hoerr’s reason was that the school staff needed to have a professional experience, which make since because some students might not take their teacher seriously if he or she is dressed for bed. This article uses logos by appealing to logic on
Some high school students usually wear kind of clothes that are not really inappropriate at schools. Some girls dress really sexy with short skirts or crop tops that they can show their bodies. Also, boys sometimes wear shirts with bad words, slogans or pictures that relate to violence or bad things that may affect to other students. Therefore, if all students wear the same uniforms, teachers do not need to waste time on criticizing these students who dress inappropriately any more. Also, uniforms have school logo, so they remind students that they are studying at school and students more likely proud of their schools when they wear them. Furthermore, wearing uniforms makes the classes more formal and more
Parents and their children are constantly arguing about the way students dress in school. This debate has become a national conversation which has been going on for more than a decade. However, there still hasn’t been a final resolution. The questions “Why do I have to wear the uniform today?” or “Can I wear this t-shirt because the color matches with my school t-shirt?” have become part of our everyday lives. Before we go any further, we have to understand the difference between uniforms and dress codes. A uniform is simply a garment worn that is the same in all cases and at all times. Whereas, a dress code is a set of rules regarding the required manner of clothing in a certain context. For instance, a school might not allow students to wear
America’s school systems seem to have many issues concerning students receiving a quality education without distraction. A current debate argues weather a dress code policy is efficient or takes away from student’s expression. Administrators at schools should regulate a dress code policy because the system improves discipline and student’s attention, reduces social conflict and peer pressure related to appearance, and dress code provides a more serious learning environment.
The undergraduates will not have to worry about wearing an ‘unattractive’ outfit. Parents and their children will not have to worry about the prices of clothing or buying as much, because they will already be wearing a pre-set outfit. Buying a set outfit that the school mandates mean that it will be much cheaper than normal outfits that students would normally buy. One student would not have a special treatment form faculty or friends because of the clothes they wear, because they are all the same
High school is typically a time when kids begin to distinguish themselves from one another. Students begin to develop their own sense of personal style, desperately trying to both fit in and stand out simultaneously. Being self-conscious and often lacking the confidence needed to assert themselves, teens are forced to use clothing and outward appearance as the means to manifest this individuality. Thus, students should not be forced to wear uniforms to school. Standard uniforms are unproven deterrents to student violence; are a "Band-Aid" to cover up the real problems faced by children and teens; and they violate students' right of self-expression, depriving them of their search for identity.
A huge negative effect of school uniforms is that they infringe ones’ individuality. High school is a time when students begin to develop their own sense of personal style, desperately trying to both stand out and fit in simultaneously. By being self-conscious and often lacking the confidence needed to assert themselves, teens are forced to use clothing and their outward appearance to manifest their individuality. By not being able to express teenagers act out in other ways. School uniforms also reduce ones ability to choose clothing that fits individual comfort needs. Above all, school uniforms even go against the 1st Amendment of the Constitution of the United States, which is about establishment of religion and free speech.
With School Uniforms everyone fits in. Uniforms encourage students to show their personality and individuality in ways other than dress.
In a public setting like a high school, how a student or students dress, can have a negative effect on the entire student body, even with a dress code. On
The most common argument against school uniforms is that they take away the students right to self-expression. Yes, school uniforms limit what the students have to wear, but students can still have their own ways of self-expression. Students can still express their style of choice with their hair and what accessories they wear. Their shoe choice is also a form of self-expression. Students can make the uniforms their own style without breaking the dress code. School is a place to learn. Outside of school, self- expression is limitless. Some parents also believe that it could interfere with students' natural behavior to experiment with different identities. Having uniforms in schools helps erase the defined line of the social classes. Typically, popular kids in the higher social classes wear the trendiest clothing...
Individuality is an important reason why having school uniforms is a disadvantage. According to the ACLU, school uniforms took its toll on children’s creativity, independence, and individual behavior. During school, the only way a child can portray their individualism is through their clothing. Students cannot freely express themselves in any other form without going through school officials first (ACLU).
Any teenage girl I 've talked to about school uniforms is quick to say "Ew I 'd hate having school uniforms!" Often, a teenage girl imagines a school uniforms being ugly, maybe society or media has put that concept into their heads. Although, school uniforms are often not as ugly as the typical teenage girl would think. Cakey jeans, plaid skirts, and collard shirts are most schools uniform criteria. Which may not be every teenage girl 's favorite fashion. A girl wearing her own clothing of choice can give others a better perception of who she is, what she likes, how she wants to be preserved by others. What if those reasons were used against her? What if saving money was a factor to having school uniforms? How can competition come to
Some regard that school uniforms influence the way students analyze problems, understand work, and dedicate themselves to situations. However, a simple alteration in clothing does not determine or change the frame of mind, but rather it is the character of that individual that helps to produce the
So, university uniforms take off the pressure of what to wear. And parents may feel pressure to compete with other families by purchasing fashionable clothes for their children. It claims that it’s expensive. Jack said that university uniforms are so expensive and if the parents have two or more children, they will spend a significant cost for their students. It is appropriate if their children wear the university because many university uniforms are designed to be affordable. At present, a new uniform will probably be required every yearly because the children are growing rapidly” (2016). A lot of students are not fans of school uniforms, they feel depressed and worry about their look because of the normal uniforms are chaotic in their clothes. The children have to be dressed up with a rule to wear, so that was neat and perfect in every day with many parts of uniforms. For this reason, it is taking so long to dress. On the other hand, consuming advantage of school uniforms can save money and time to students and parents. First, students are needless to spend too much money on buying the new and fashionable clothes. At present, there has a lot of competitions among students to follow fashionably. If students wear university uniform, they don't worry about new fashion of dress. However,
