PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT STATEMENT
PHILOSOPHY:
Acquiring knowledge and disseminating the acquired knowledge are equally important. The ideal way to acquire knowledge is through effective professional development. I have successfully mentored many students in synthesizing and developing methodologies and data analysis plans, allowing a timely completion of the projects. At the University of Texas Arlington, I have recruited and mentored many undergraduate students. For example, I have recruited an undergraduate nursing student for an NSF funded project in Mexico and mentored her on an engineering automation project that required epidemiological evaluations. The student appreciated the cross-cultural learning experiences and the interdisciplinary nature of the project. Currently, I am mentoring two undergraduate students at the University of Wisconsin Platteville on modeling the force perception of precision grasps using the thin-gauge gloves similar to those used in health care industries.
Laboratory establishment: I was instrumental in establishing a 1000 square-foot laboratory space for automation technologies at the University of Texas Arlington. I worked with the university facilities department, vendors, and sponsors alike to successfully establish the laboratory with equipment worth $250,000 and an annual operating budget of $250,000 in a time span of 8 months. I believe this experience and knowledge is a critical project management and professional development.
