In the years that follows completing my BSN, my professional development plan involved viewing nursing as a career not as a job. I know there will be days more difficult than other, but at the end of the day, I want to be know that I made a difference in someone’s life. Viewing nursing as a career would need me to pursuit an advanced nursing degree. Continuing my education has be a goal in which I have placed effort into, and will continue doing so my working to obtain a Master of Science in Nursing. I plan to give myself one semester break, and apply for a program. To continue my education, I also plan on becoming a Certified Diabetes Educator. To know all that I can about diabetes has been a major goal for me, since I started nursing school. I will also increase the level of commitment I have towards my career. Engaging with my director, my educational nurse and communicating with them with about my interest in education classes provided by the hospital will help with my goals. As I learn new evidence-based practice, I will ask more experienced nurse to verify a new procedure, and ask for input on improvement to helps me improve my nursing care.
Communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team, including the patient and the patient’s support network. (American Association of Colleges of Nursing 2008). A primary goal as a caregiver is to keep the patient inform and family updated on the care. Communication with my patient included patient education. My plan is to improve my knowledge and skills for teaching patients. I can accomplish this by attending CE programs about patient teaching.
