FINAL PAPER What is problem based topic within Process Technology? There are many different problems within Process Technology, but the biggest one out there would be corrosion. Corrosion can be defined different in many ways. Some definitions are straight forward and deal with a specific form of corrosion, while others are quite broad and cover many forms of deterioration. The general definition of corrosion is electrochemical reactions between metal surfaces and fluids that result in the gradual wearing away of the metal. You may ask how corrosion is caused, what we can do to help prevent it, and how corrosion can cause the failure of equipment items in many different ways. Corrosion is natural cause everything in the world corrodes, it’s just a matter of time and the object that is being corroded. Corrosion is a huge issue in the Process Technology mainly because you have so many feed lines running from one unit to another. As time goes these feed lines are subjected to different weather conditions from temperatures that are 110 degrees F to temperatures that are 20 degrees below zero F. Preventing corrosion is another story because some metals are subjected to corrosion easier than others. For example the Noble metals such …show more content…
Corrosion can be defined different in many ways. Throughout the world corrosion is a huge issue but with the help of engineers and scientist we may be able to slow the process down. You may ask how corrosion is caused, what we can do to help prevent it, and how corrosion can cause the failure of equipment in many different ways. As you can see corrosion isn’t something to joke about within the Process industry because equipment failures due to corrosion have proven to be deadly and lives have been lost. Plant Shutdowns play a humongous role to identify plant feed lines and equipment that may be damaged or needs to be
Stainless steel, especially, Austenitic stainless steel, because of their high corrosion resistance and customizable mechanical properties has become an indispensable part of the regularly evolving modern day technology. Stainless steels of various grades find applications in numerous fields starting from the household to the nuclear reactors; from food and beverage cans to construction of different automobile parts. The formation of impervious oxide layer on the surface makes it suitable for use in adverse environments such as sea water.
Fatigue failure can be divided in three parts i.e. Crack initiation, Crack propagation and Final rupture.
Process philosophy is known as the idea that everything is changing. Over the years, process philosophy has changed the way humans exist and go about their day to day lives. In order to fully grasp the concept of process philosophy we will first take a closer look at process philosophy, as a whole, its history, and the ideas behind this particular philosophy. Then we will discuss the effects process philosophy has had on marriage and family, followed by a brief commentary.
Chapter two of this document describes the definition of fatigue failure and summarizes the research done in the area of fatigue behavior of steel moment connections and the concept of low-cycle fatigue.
There is a story told in Lime Springs Iowa about Lidtke Mill. It was about midnight on a cloudy rainy night. When old Frank Walker was wearing his big black rain poncho while inspecting the mill. It was a windy and cold night but could still hear the shrill train whistle in the distance. Just then the peterson family pulled up. “Hello Petersons,”said Frank.”Hi,”said the Petersons. What are you doing out so late.””Just inspecting machinery again.””We'll see ya tomorrow.” He entered the old mill consciously checking the the machinery. He made sure all the equipment was running well oiled and greased daily. Then when he entered the electrical room he looked at the spot where young John Peterson stood when he was electrocuted.
Anybody and everybody can become an industrial machinery mechanic; especially, those who are passionate about getting their hands plastered in motor oil, grease, and other mechanical lubricants. These people will more than likely be ecstatic about getting into industrial machinery mechanics. They need to be able to put in one hundred ten percent of their effort into becoming an industrial machinery mechanic. An industrial machinery mechanic’s overall objective on the job is to stop a mechanical error before it happens. An industrial machinery mechanics are often caught repairing, maintaining, and fabricating machinery. They will be required to have certain education and training as well as some on the job training or complete an apprenticeship program. They will receive many benefits for working in this particular field.
A wide variety of coating alloys and wrought alloys can be prepared that give the metal greater strength, castability, or resistance to corrosion or high temperatures. Some new alloys can be used as armor plate for tanks, personnel carriers, and other military vehicles.
There are two main types of cost accounting systems, job costing and process costing. In job costing, each job is tracked separately. For example, a company that install roofs can keep track of each cost separately. They can easily track labor by tracking the total amount of human hours spent of the job and what each person was paid. Materials can easily be tracked by tracking the total costs of supplies needed to complete the job. For job costing the total costs of each job can be easily tracked. Some examples of professions that use job costing are carpenters, painters, and computer repair. In process costing, a large number of the same or very similar products are produced in large numbers - examples include
Physically and chemically Aluminium is a metal much like others such as; steel, copper and titanium. I can occur as a solid, a liquid or a gas and the state at which aluminium occurs depends on its condition, temperature and pressure. Aluminium is a very light weight metal at 2.7 grams per 〖cm〗^3, which is approximately one third the weight of steel. (HIGGINS, 1972) It naturally forms a protective oxide coating which protects it from corrosion; this oxide coating is thin but very dense and can be made harder through a natural or imitated treatment called Anodising. Aluminium can be further protected with treatments such as coating through lacquering and painting. It is an excellent heat and electricity conductor. It has a low melting point and is very ductile. And finally aluminium is completely recyclable without a reduction in quality.
Magic tricks have fascinated people of all ages for centuries. From David Copperfield to Chris Angel, many performers use magic to amaze and astound. One of the least elaborate types of magic tricks is the card trick. There are two main types of card tricks: there are mathematical card tricks and sleight of hand card tricks. The former are simple to learn, but do not impress audiences. To really attract attention, an aspiring magician should learn sleight of hand card tricks. Sleight of hand card tricks are tricks that use misdirection and special manipulations of a deck of cards to do something seemingly impossible. The techniques involved require much practice. While performing a sleight of hand trick, a magician must constantly be distracting the audience. Because of this, many people believe that they are not capable of learning sleight of hand magic. In order to prove them wrong, I will describe a simple sleight of hand trick that anyone can learn, as long as they remember that we all have the potential inside of us to do magic.
Preventive maintenance can be defined as an activity performed on a certain schedule which is intended to prevent breakdowns or deterioration. These activities can include regular inspection along with solving any discovered problems or situations and regularly scheduled parts changes. Preventive maintenance involves the scheduled adjustment, inspection, replacement of wearable parts, calibrations, basic cleaning and lubrication of equipment or other recommendation made by the equipment manufacturer. These activities can help increase the equipment functional life and help decrease facilities deterioration. No equipment should, No equipment should reach the breaking point [1].
Aluminum is an element in the boron group with a symbol of Al, and an atomic number of 13. Aluminum is a very soft metal when pure but becomes strong and hard when alloyed, a malleable metal with a silvery gray color. Aluminum is a very reactive element so it is found in nature combined with other elements. Aluminum resists corrosion by the formation of a self-protecting oxide coating. Aluminum is the third most abundant element in the Earth’s crust, following oxygen and silicon. It makes up approximately 8% by weight of the Earth’s surface. Although this is evident, it is also apparent that aluminum is never found by itself in nature. All of the earth’s aluminum has combined with other elements to form compounds and in order to create new aluminum products; it has to be taken out of that specific compound. Aluminum does not rust like other elements, therefore it always remains strong and shiny, which means reused aluminum is almost identical to a brand new piece of metal. An electrochemical process creates aluminum. An electrochemical process is “the direct process end use in which electricity is used to cause a chemical transformation” ( E.I.A. Government). Major uses of electrochemical processes occur in the aluminum industry in which alumina is reduced to molten aluminum metal and oxygen, where than the aluminum can be used into making several different materials. Electrochemical processes, although very useful, can have serious environmental consequences. To help reduce the consequences that the production of aluminum creates, the idea of aluminum recycling comes into play.
To have a general understanding of the steelmaking process, it is best to understand the most common method of producing steel, the blast furnace. The blast furnace is a chemical process used to create iron from raw materials. Among the vast number of early metallurgical processes used throughout history, the blast furnace is still one of the most economical methods to produce iron. Iron ore, coke, and limestone are charged into the top of the furnace where numerous chemical processes take place. Hot blasts of air enter the bottom of the furnace through nozzles called tuyeres. Dirty gas travels out of the furnace through uptakes and then through a downcomer. Particles settle out in a dustcatcher and a scrubber removes fine particles. Clean gas can now be burned. Once the raw materials have smelted into molten pig iron, a drill breaks through the tap-hole and iron flows out into a trough. Slag is removed with a skimmer and processed for applications in concrete. Molten iron is collected in a ladle and transported for further production. The mud-gun fills the tap-hole with refractory clay and more materials are charged into the ...

In other words, it helps to minimize the risk. The corrosive water will generally corroding all the components in the water tap including water heaters and other water appliances.
