Walking into the wilderness is similar to a man entering the world naked. For one should enter the wilderness while walking (768). He should also leave everything that he has been accustomed to behind.
It's three o'clock in the morning. I've been sleeping since eight p.m., and now my alarm clock is telling me that it's time to wake up. Most people are sleeping at this hour of the night, but I'm just now waking up to pack up my gear and head into the forest for the morning. Last night I packed my .30-06, tree stand, a small cooler full of food and a rucksack full of hunting equipment including deer scent, camouflage paint and a flashlight. I've been planning a hunt for two weeks, and the weekend has finally come. I get up from bed, shake off the cold of the morning and get ready to leave by four.
As a diehard deer hunter I can tell you it is not easy. No aspect of hunting is easy in any way. Hunting is a physical sport that can drain you mentally and physically. There will be days in the woods where you bleed, where your sweating through every layer of clothing you have on, and last but not least cry. Learning how to hunt takes a lot of time and patience but, it also takes a passion for the sport. The more knowledgeable you are about what your hunting the better off you’ll be.
With only a survival pack and a few other items, Brian is stranded in the Canadian wilderness. A wilderness is a wild uncultivated region like a forest usually inhabited by wild animals. It is winter, there is snow on the ground, and it is so cold the temperature is below zero. In order to survive, he built a hut near a lake. For example, on page five in Brian’s Winter, it states, “...marooned him in the wilderness…”. Having survival skills is what ultimately saved his life.
Ok now first of all you will need a survival kit and in your kit you’ll need things like…
Whether you are simply going camping at a commercial campground, taking a short hike, or backpacking into a pristine wilderness area... be prepared. Never leave to chance those few articles that may become lifesavers. Above all, always let someone know your itinerary and the time you plan to return. The following is a list of items that should be included in a basic survival kit: bodyOffer(17619)You May Be Owed
Does wilderness exist? To many people, this would seem to be a very meaningless question. Of course wilderness exists. But, coming from a student who decided to enroll in a class called Humans and the Natural Environment: Impacts and Moral Obligations, this question has become one that has almost thrown my world upside down. Before we can answer the question, we must first know the definition of wilderness is this, “an area where the earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man, where man is a visitor who does not remain.” Because of my recent class periods and readings, I believe that the concept of wilderness does not exist, and that it is not useful. Throughout this essay I will explain why
There are many factor that determines your survival in the wilderness. To survive, you not only need enough and correct supplies but you also need luck and to stay calm. In the story “To Build a Fire” the man and the dog was trying to cross the Yukon Territory of northern Canada and he was traveling under freezing cold weather. To him, fifty degrees below zero simply meant a danger of frostbite and the need for warm clothes. It did not lead him to think about how vulnerable he was in this frozen wilderness. Nor did it lead him to have humility about his place in the universe. At last he end up dying in the wilderness. In the short story, “To Build a Fire” by Jack London, the main character, “the man,” was responsible for his situation because
Nature is very unforgiving. It enforces harsh consequences for mistakes and incompetence on people who do not know what they are doing. The man from To Build a Fire goes through great efforts when trying to build a fire in order to survive. He makes the mistake of building it by a tree with snow on its boughs. As a result of this, the snow on top “descended without warning upon the man and the fire, and the fire was blotted out!” The man is never able to build and sustain a fire on his trip and he perishes very uncomfortably. Chris McCandless from Into the Wild is not well versed in nature and survival skills. Yet, he is very confident as he enters the Alaskan wilderness. He packed very little and just went for it. Because of this, he is found dead with a note saying, “S.O.S. I NEED YOUR HELP. I AM INJURED, NEAR DEATH, AND TOO WEAK TO HIKE OUT OF HERE I AM ALL ALONE, THIS IS NO JOKE…” He suffered from a sad, painful death. Both people suffer terribly as the

What would you do if you were going on a journey to a new world during winter, and you didn’t know how to get food or shelter? In 1921 a group of 132 people set off on a voyage on the Mayflower to find a better life and religious freedom. Before they could start their better life they had to find food and make shelter. The pilgrims stayed on their boat for most of the winter to get away from the snow, sleet, and high winds. When the pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians became friends and made a peace treaty, later Squanto helped them find food and shelter.
With stress on my mind and a cookie in my hand, I headed towards the wooded area behind her home. At the beginning of the trail, there was an old rotting tire swing barely hanging onto a low-hanging branch. The extensive amount of muddy puddles and the surrounding damp grass made me hesitant to follow through with my grandmother’s suggestion; the mountain of homework that waited for me back at home convinced me to continue. Trees towered over me, adding to the existing weight of stress that sat upon my shoulders, as I carefully maneuvered around the biggest puddles, beginning to become frustrated. Today was a terrible day to go for a walk, so why would my grandmother suggest this? Shaking my head in frustration, I pushed forward. The trail was slightly overgrown. Sharp weeds stabbed my sides every few steps, and I nearly tripped over a fallen tree branch. As the creek barely came into view, I could feel the humidity making my hair curly and stick to the sides of my face. After stopping to roll up the ends of my worn blue jeans, I neared the end of the trail. Bright sunlight peeked through the branches and reflected off the water. The sun must have come out from behind a cloud, seeing as it now blinded me as I neared the water. A few minutes passed by before I could clearly see
In this new world, Snow looked around but all she could see were trees. Of course there were hills too, and all other landforms that occurred in a forest, but the forest never ended. This startled Snow, but she was determined to keep her spirits high. This must be some kind of trick, she thought, there must be some way to get out of here. Snow spent a long time thinking about her options of escape, but then she started to realise that it was getting darker. Snow knew that in the forest, nighttime is when the harmful animals come out. Fearing the wolves and foxes, Snows new objective was to create a shelter, and then a fire if she had
I have not had many meaningful moments with nature, even though I have many encounters with it. But the encounter that is the most prevalent in my mind is my vacation at Willow Lake, Minnesota. Here I had encounters with nature on the water, out bike riding, and watching a storm come in the distance.
