Problems Facing Australia We, Australian citizens are very lucky to live in such a privileged country; privileged by the fact that we have a stable government, have some arable land, have decent infrastructures in our society and are a wealthy country. But this does not mean that there are not any problems in these areas and Australia should be wary about some of these issues, internally and externally. By being aware of problems in the present – we can maintain a future that is just as successful and hopefully as progressive as the previous years. Such a positive future will only come about when major problems to do with our environment, socio-economic disparities and our international relations are considered now and acted upon sensibly. The constant issue of maintaining relations with Asia is imperative for both continents. There is much trade and partnership between Asia and Australia, so maintaining good relationships is important. To be able to do this Australia must be showing that they are sympathetic to the Asian culture and appreciate it (which has been successful with the current whaling bans and restrictions on fish farming) but we must also indicate that we are prepared to contribute to ensuring economic stability. Basically, Australia should be aiming to be in a win-win situation with Asia that has benefits for all. Though Australia’s position of support to America affects this partnership - as can be seen with the latest world evens of terrorism and the US Trade Agreement with Australia. By being involved with our military connection with the USA (ANZUS) it already proves a problem when trying to maintain relati... ... middle of paper ... ... benefits because for some citizens, economical supports like “the dole” are thought of a way to cheat the government. But in actual fact the majority who receive the benefits have no choice. With more people not accepting the dole, it gives rise to more criticism by society and a further division between those who are employed and those who are not. It is an area that is desperate to be resolved for the future. Although the issues addressed above are only brief overviews, they only represent a fraction of the many other issues potentially affecting our future. Compared to many other countries though, the outlook for Australia is bright. All we need to do is acknowledge the problems in the first place, be mature enough to resolve them and working hard throughout. So where to now Oz? A bigger and promising future…
After evaluating the above factors, it is clear that the partnership between Australia and Japan is of significant importance to both countries. With reference to the Centre for Study of Australian-Asian Relations (1997:152) the future prosperity of Australia will to an increasing extent, be dependent on that of her neighbours in the Asia-Pacific area. Currently the Australia-Japan relationship could be described as “comfortable and relaxed”. However both Australia and Japan need to be alert to the changing environment and must ensure that the right frameworks and policy settings are in place in order for the two countries to prosper.
Shadowing World War II, there was an amplified fear of communism in Australia. The influence of the threat of Communism in Australian local politics from 1945 to the 1950’s was very strong as you can see through Robert Menzies, the Petrov Affair, The fear of Ussr spies, the royal commission and the Alp split show relevant threats to the Australian Domestic politics by saying they are spies, traitors and liars.
There is a high degree of complexity in this question. Should Australia, as a mature nation, be taking part in moral issues around the world even though they are not happening on our doorstep? Do we ignore the deaths in Bosnia, the starving millions in Biafra and Ethiopia, the worldwide environmental issues raised by Greenpeace? What is the purpose of developing alliances, both economic and military, with other countries? At stake, in all of these issues, is our desire for a better world to live in.
Indigenous Australians have faced many changes to their original life style, with numerous policies being brought in. These policies had an incredible affect on how the indigenous Australians lived. The policies inflicted on the indigenous Australians varied widely and had numerous impacts. The policies of assimilation, protection and integration had mainly negative impacts on the community, causing loss of identity, language and religion. The policies of self-determination and reconciliation, had mostly positive effects to the indigenous Australian community, creating a stronger bond between black and white Australians, encouraging the concept of closing the gap between indigenous Australians and non-indigenous Australians. These policies had an incredible influence on the indigenous Australians life, changing many ways they lived. The policies changed the path of history for all Australians.

One of the most important responsibilities of our nation is to protect and serve its citizens. As the new millennium begins, our nation must overcome many challenges that affect this responsibility. Three of the most important are terrorism, illiteracy, and the lack of moral values.
According to Livermore (2008), people who are actively looking for work but are not currently in a contractual arrangement are considered unemployed. Since the recession in 2007, unemployment has been an ongoing problem in America. Many companies were laying off thousands of employees because they could not pay them. As of September 2011, the South and the West has the highest concentration of unemployment. Nevada has the highest jobless rate, 13.4%, followed by California with 12.1% (Cooper, 2011). The collapse of the housing bubble left Nevada with high rates of unemployment. South Carolina’s unemployment rate is 11.1% and is the fourth highest in the nation (Cooper, 2011). Most people had a hard time finding work because they were not familiar with filling out applications online; especially if they had been working for 30 years at the same company (Alpert, 2011). The labor market is governed by the laws of supply and demand. There are policies that address labor supply and labor demand.
The Federation of the Australia was a major turning point in Australian history with six different colonies coming together to form one country. The six colonies all had different leaders, law and armies. Some people wanted to change it. One person was Henry Parkes who made a famous speech. The idea didn’t take off. Another person from a new generation called Alfred Deakin convinced the colonies to try again. This time people got to vote for representatives who helped to draw up a new constitution.
In 1997, thirty percent of workers were employed in non-standard work arrangements ("HomelessnessÉ"). These consist of independent contracting, working for temporary help agencies, day labor and regular part-time employment. This type of work typically offers lower wages, fewer benefits and less job security. The underemployment rate stands substantially higher than the unemployment rate. Measures of underemployment reflect not only individuals who are unemployed, but also involuntary part-timers that want to work full-time.
