There is no doubt that in today’s society the need of private security is important. For many years, it has been a major part of everyday life that even goes back to the ancient times. Through the years, many private businesses have used it as a means to protect life and property as private security is essential. Private security employees can be also responsible for protecting many of America’s institution, critical infrastructure, utilities, transportation and health facilities (Strom et al., 2010). Additionally, not only does private security play an important role in domestic territory, but internationally as well. Cooperation takes much type of forms. Unfortunately, there have been finding that suggest that a small amount of law enforcement agencies participate in a formal collaborations with private security. Only 5 to 10 percent of police chiefs and sheriffs were in an active partnership with private security. Emergency response training has a tendency to include police, fire, and other governmental authorities, however, often tends to leave private security. Thankfully, in the recent years, law enforcement agencies and private security agencies have shown attention in collaborating with each other, information sharing, and partnership (Strom et al., 2010). Since it has been shown that private security are important in society, the training that law enforcement possess along with the size, resource, and the technical expertise that private security have can create a good relationship for future emergency response efforts (Strom et al., 2010). Now, there are than 450 established private security and law enforcement partnerships. Private security agencies have also been given some police power in order to assisting law enforcement with certain function that often helps improve services in particular areas (Strom et al., 2010). The common goals of private security and law enforcement have caused some local law enforcement agency to privatize certain functions.
