In today’s world ethics are extremely important, especially in the field of education. The Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines ethics as the “rules of behavior based on ideas about what is morally good and bad” (Merriam-Webster, n.d.). Teachers interact and influence students on a daily bases, because of this teachers must live by and adhere to the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct. During the ethics workshop we learned what the Code of Ethics and the Principles of Professional Conduct in Education are. The teacher’s obligation to the student refers to the commitment to being fair, honest, open, and objective to both the student and the learning materials used in the classroom. The teacher must always avoid harassing, embarrassing, or discriminating against any students. An educator’s obligation to the public is to make sure that any personal views or beliefs that do not align with the school districts are kept out of the classroom. For example, a teacher may believe in creationism; however, the school district he/she works for teaches evaluation. The teacher must put his/her personal belief aside and teach evolution to the class as the curriculum dictates. Another obligation to the public is that as an educator, one must never use one’s profession position for personal gain or favors. An educator must also never accept gifts or favors that could influence the teacher’s professional judgement. This means a teacher should never accept a gift or favor in exchange for a better grade for a student. The final element, the obligation to the profession refers to the educator’s responsibility to report all, including alleged, violations of state or local school board rules to the school administrator. My CT is always fair and unbiased in her treatment of her students. Even the ones who seem to always have disciplinary issues are treated with the same respect as her best behaved students. All her students seem to respect her which is a clear sign that they feel valued and important to her. However, I have had a few personal experiences growing up where I feel the teacher may not have abided by the Code of Ethics. Once such experience was when my fifth grade teacher told me I would never amount to anything in life. This devastated me as I felt she knew what she as talking about since she was a teacher after all. I lost a lot of confidence going into middle school because of what she said to me. I believe she violated the very first ethic code that the educator values the worth and dignity of every person. Using everything I have learned from the ethics workshop and my past experiences I will follow and live by the Code of Ethics in my professional life, and take care in my personal life as well. I now know what is morally and professional expected of my behavior and I will be sure to achieve those expectations. I will also use common sense through-out everything I do and all interactions with others. Honestly I won’t need to change much because I already strive to live ethically, but it is nice to have one’s expectations laid out and clearly

It is very necessary to understand that ethical rules must apply and obey with basis of what is right and wrong which is written in the law. That is why there are professions that have organizations or associations which have the method of ethical conducts or standard.
I think that I have always had high ethical standards, but I think that the general education classes have shown me to look at other aspects of ethics. The study of Ethics and Social Responsibility gave me a clearer understanding of the theory of ethics and I am able to see which theories people are using to make their ethical decisions. Prior to having the class of Professional Values and Ethics, I assumed I understood the basic concepts of what defines a professional who has competence of values and ethics. Nevertheless, by being enrolled in this course, I have gained great knowledge of which professional values and ethical principles must be held by a social worker, which I did not know before. Progressively in this class, by learning professional values and ethics, my motivation to succeed as an upcoming social worker has gotten stronger.

Teacher Ethics “Ethics are defined as a set of principles of right conduct; the rules or standards governing the conduct of a person or the members of a profession” (Dictionary of the Human Language, 2000). Teachers are often put in situations that require more than just knowing the basic school rules. It is within these situations, that the ethical dilemmas occur. There is not always a right way to deal with the many daily problems that face educators, but there are ways to handle situations that are better than others. Teachers should follow and refer to a code of ethics to help teach in the most appropriate and ethical way as well as a guide to help deal with dilemmas.
First, I realized that, teachers carry a lot of weight on their shoulders and have great responsibilities. They have to balance the curriculum, students, parents, lesson plans, common core, and upper management and still maintain a professional demeanor. Second, educators must follow a strong code of ethics. They must be professional at all times with students and colleagues, keep confidentiality, not have or show any prejudice or bias, maintain safe and positive learning environments, help students with problems, and hand out disciplines accordingly. Lastly, I found that when you’re a teacher, your education never stops. Teachers are always trying to improve their own education and professional growth, both for the benefit of their students and for the benefit of themselves.
