Lady Diana Spencer, better known as Princess Diana, was loved and admired by people everywhere. She had a naturally kind-hearted personality, and she accepted everyone no matter who they were. Among many things, Diana was relatable and giving. As Vickers (1998) stated, "Diana possessed the gifts that have traditionally made princesses popular. She was ruled by a good heart . . . and a genuine care and concern for those who were sick and suffering" (p. 36). Princess Diana's life left a lasting impression on the world not only while she was alive, but also to this day; Diana noticeably impacted the lives of people across the world. Although they had only met two times, Charles and Diana had been acquainted with each other for several years because Charles was a friend of Diana’s older sister. The couple began their relationship together in the summer of 1980 (“Princess Diana biography,” 2011). Diana and Charles dated for less than a year before their relationship progressed to something more serious. In the new year of 1981, Diana hoped for and expected a proposal from Prince Charles (Brennan, 1999). The proposal took place on February 6, 1981, at the Windsor Castle. Charles feared that Diana was oblivious to how hard being a member of the Royal family would be, but Diana did not care because she loved Charles deeply (Mattern, 2006). The Queen of England waited to make the engagement of Charles and Diana public until February 24, but England was elated when the news went public. Vickers (1998) mentioned, “Diana Spencer was the first Princess of Wales that Britain had known since the early days of the 20th century…” (p. 36). It is no wonder that the people of England were so fascinated by the engagement; there hadn’t been anyone new and exciting in a long time. Shortly after the queen’s announcement, Diana moved into a suite in Buckingham Palace. Diana also spent a lot of her time at the Clarence house, which belonged to the Queen Mother. During her time with the Queen Mother, Diana learned everything she needed to know about being a princess (“Princess Diana biography”). She was taught everything from how to speak in public to how to have the perfect royal wave. Diana quickly learned that Charles had been right; the responsibility of learning how to act as a princess was intense. With just a little over five months to plan her wedding and learn her role as princess, Diana was put under a lot of stress. She now had to worry about the media too.
