The advancement and use of social media can be very beneficial to society such as finding a roommate for college. Using multiple social media sites, but if social media is overused, it can become dangerous by creating issues like cyberbullying and depression. This can lead to a world that is antisocial and technology dependent like in Ready Player One. I believe that a healthy medium between the two is needed so that one is familiar with technology, but is not consumed. This issue is important as technology continues to advance in the era and social media use becomes more
People need people they need ways to connect with other communities and to be able to express themselves. Structural functionalism theory is based as how society is a complex system who’s parts work together to promote solidarity and stability (wikipedia.org). Since, people have the need to connect with others social media provides the means to do so. Extroverted people will have a greater geographic expansion of their social circle. Introverts are more willing to meet people online because of the sense of security it provides. Social media is growing at such a fast rate and the availability of high speed internet, everything is instantaneous. This can cause a problem with learning characteristics such as patience, narcissism, self-esteem issues or personal filters. The more time people are spending on social media sites, the more they are forgetting how to behave in real life. Social media allows for everything unfiltered. In real life there are rules to society to make sure people can peacefully live amongst each other. In order for society to cohabitate peacefully there must be a willingness to compromise among people. With the evolution of social media’s virtual communities where everything is a free forum, people are now choosing to not follow the basic rules of society, hence, the increase in crime and lack of

Firstly, as we are talking with somebody from the other side of social media, acquaintance or friends, we tend to open ourselves and talk about our own opinions, however, we may not know that person, and it is dangerous to talk about our private life with a stranger. Secondly, our relationship with people are not as deep through social media as they are face-to-face; they only exist through status quo. When we need them in real life, they will not be there for us. Lastly, we tend to follow and interact with people who agree with our points of view, thus, we are not getting the same diversity of viewpoints as we have gotten in the past; people can think wrong about
The effects and impacts of social media on society are pretty evident, and picturesquely obvious. People get to do things that they could not do 30 years ago like communicate across the computer network instead of going all the way to their house or job, and the overall convenience of it is a very welcomed one. This has changed people lives for the better, and in some cases, for the worse. One of the life changing ways of social media on society is that kids do not feel it is necessary to talk face to face anymore, and this is complete made evident by the many thousands of people who have Facebook pages; even parents. The effects of this has broken and in some cases, divided families because no one is spending time together anymore like they used to do. One example of this is when a mother wants to spend time with her teenage daughter, but her teenage daughter is all about finding out who Darcy broke up with on Facebook which Darcy never revealed. However, this neglect was brought to the mom by the social media that all of the kids are about these days; the girl pays a price as well because she is missing out on time with her mother. A lot of people, mostly teenagers are ignoring the precepts of family because they are more tuned into society’s social media which is not all that important. The impact of this is that people’s family values are suffering as a result because social media on society has everyone in society at each other’s throats trying to become popular. For example, the captain of the basketball team has a Facebook announcing a party that he is having at his house. Instead of the captain’s circle of friends doing their homework, they are out partying with the captain. Overtime, everybody is paying more and more atte...

Social media has nothing but negative effects on people’s minds. Social networking can become very addicting and people can get wrapped up in the drama and excitement of the cyber world. It would only improve our society today if social media never existed to our knowledge. Our society today feels so connected with social media that it interferes with our lives making every task even harder with the temptations.

Social media makes it easy for people to communicate and interact with each other anytime anywhere in the world. People can stay connect to their families and loved ones no matter how far they are from each other. That ability to communicate with people all over the world has made people much more open to other societies and other cultures as well. When people learn about other cultures they become more open to new ideas, more open to change, and more accepting to other cultures.
