Charles “Pretty Boy” Floyd was born in Adairsville, Georgia on February 3, 1904. His family moved to Oklahoma soon after that, where they owned a farm and were extremely poor. First arrested at eighteen when he stole $3.50 in coins from a post office. At twenty years old, Floyd married Ruby Hardgraves; they had a son, Charles “Jack” Dempsey Floyd. Later he was arrested for a payroll robbery in St. Louis, Missouri on September 16, 1925 for five years.

Kody Scott first became involved with the Crips at the age of eleven (Shakur Preface xiii). From the beginning of his time in the Crips, Scott seemed to naturally fit into the life of a gang member. Shortly after being released from the hospital after his shooting, Kody Scott was arrested for murder and was sent to juvenile hall (Shakur 124).
