President Theodore Roosevelt was the outmost incredible president of our nation. He cared about every aspect of our country. He was remarkable, brilliant, and strong. He brought something different to the table of the presidential legacy. His personality, however was like no other, he was an impossible act to follow. He also was impetuous and did not hesitate to work around the regulations to get what he wanted. With the assassination of President McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt stepped up to become the youngest president in our nation’s history at the mere age of forty three. He brought new excitement and power to the Presidency. The revolution of his life brought many events and new ideas to the world. Roosevelt was a republican, and an excellent leader. His outlook on a better, improved United States caught the attention of the whole country. Roosevelt was not only a good leader as a president but also within every leadership position he held. Prior to his presidency, Roosevelt served as a New York legislature, commissioner of police for New York, assistant secretary of the Navy at the beginning of the Spanish-American War, second in command of the Rough Riders in Cuba, and the governor of New York. He was a man of many accomplishments but clearly also knew how to be an outstanding leader. While he was a commissioner of police he restored the department, made promotions based on merit, and worked his fellow policemen to serve the people as they should. Roosevelt established group called the Rough Riders as a volunteer force to free Cuba from the Spanish after the explosion of the USS Maine in Havana Harbor. During the Spanish-American war Roosevelt served as the lieutenant colonel of the Rough Rider Regiment. In the book Theodore Roosevelt by Louis Auchincloss, I learned a great deal about the twenty-sixth President of the United States of America. Former President T. Roosevelt made many accomplishments as president, and did not have a high number of scandals. Roosevelt did very well in keeping the peace between the different countries, which earned him many admirers and the coveted Nobel Peace Prize. The U.S. had annexed Hawaii in 1898 and Spanish-American War granted the U.S. control of the Philippines. It also led the U.S. to establish a protectorate over Cuba and grant territorial status for Puerto Rico. By taking on the Philippine Islands as an American colony after the Spanish-American War he had ended the U.S.'s isolation from international politics. Theodore Roosevelt believed that nations should pursue a strenuous life and do their part to maintain peace and order. It was also a belief that civilized nations had the duty of modernizing the barbarous ones. He also pushed for a bigger army and navy and by the end of his presidency he had built the U.S. Navy into a major force at sea.

Theodore Roosevelt was one of our greatest presidents. He created the FDA and improved the position of the presidency greatly. Before Theodore came to be president, the position of presidency was slow and wasn’t very interesting so he made the executive branch more powerful by starting new reforms and a strong foreign policy. The life of a president is hard. It is full of stress, responsibilities, and a strong dedication the welfare of your country. Roosevelt was president for four terms from 1933 until his death on April 12, 1945. To me President Roosevelt was a big inspiration based on the fact that he may not have been a success in all of his ventures, he continued on, he did not allow his paralysis from polio prevent him from walking even if it was just briefly. Roosevelt was a proud man and did not want Americans to think he was helpless. Roosevelt even designed his own wheelchair out of a desk chair and bicycle tires.
