The subject came so naturally to me and I decided to continue my enrollment in sports medicine courses throughout my high school education. As my senior year of high school concluded, I explored the idea of a career in physical therapy by job shadowing at the Idaho Sports Medicine Institute (ISMI). After observing the PTs at ISMI, I was immediately drawn to a career in physical medicine. A few months later, I started my education at Idaho State and felt exactly like I did when I started sports medicine in high school. I was absolutely enthralled with my classes, naturally excelled in all of my coursework, and always had PT school in the back of my mind. I have applied to the MUJCESOM because West Virginia is my home and I have strong family ties to the state. My father received his PhD from a West Virginian state school and has been an educator at different universities in the state for more than 40 years. Additionally, I have a desire to continue expanding my knowledge by working on research projects and I know that MU has taken great strides in expanding their research programs and facilities. Furthermore, I feel that the small class sizes at the MUJCESOM would be greatly beneficial in that it would allow me to have a more personalized experience in medical school. Based on the pre-med review of my MCAT score, I was advised to retake the MCAT. However, I did not have enough time to prepare, retake the MCAT, and submit my application in time for a committee letter. The pre-med committee requires all students to submit their AMCAS application before August 1st in order to be eligible for an advisor letter. I initially decided not to apply to medical school this cycle based on the pre-med advisor’s recommendation. However, receiving words of encouragement from my mentor, a previous emergency physician, and after a self-reflecting on my experiences in the health care field and my academic achievement, I regained the confidence to apply to medical school.
