As a child, I watched the sky with wide eyes each time an airplane flew overhead. My imagination ran wild as I pictured these huge machines that could take a person from one place to the next in barely no time at all. The machines were interesting to me, of course, but what really sparked my curiosity were the people traveling in them. “Where are they going,” I would wonder, “What will they do there?” Little did I know that became one of these travelers, gazing out of the plane window with the same wide-eyed excitement for the adventures that lie ahead. Growing up in a poverty stricken area with three siblings and a disabled mother does not provide many opportunities to get out of town. Thankfully, the generosity of certain well-off community members allowed me to leave the country twice during my high school career. I traveled to Campeche, Mexico, in order to improve my Spanish skills while assisting in repairs to a local orphanage. During this week my love for the Spanish language grew more than I ever dreamed it could. I was also chosen to have the once in a lifetime experience of traveling across China to visit historical sites and monuments in Shanghai, Xi’an, and Beijing. …show more content…
It is important that I immerse myself in Hispanic culture so that I may fully understand the dynamics of the Spanish language. This is why the Semester in Spain program fits my academic and personal goals perfectly. Living with a homestay family provides an entirely different perspective than staying in an environment with other English speakers or living by myself. It would make an incredible difference in my language abilities to live amongst Spanish speakers for an entire
Wouldn’t it be amazing to travel anywhere you wanted to go in the world without a plane to take you there? Well, we’ve all wanted the ability to fly at least once in our lifetime. We would have the luxury to travel anywhere we wanted and we wouldn’t have to worry about the constant struggle to find enough money just to get to the destination. We would learn more about the world by seeing things through a new perspective if we could fly ourselves to it in the blink of an eye. Judith Oritz Cofer as the author shows us this ability through the characters in the short story, “Volar”.
When I am older I would love to be a Nurse Practitioner, I enjoy helping people when they are sick and taking care of them. Another reason I want to be a Nurse Practitioner is because my sister is also a Nurse Practitioner.
Essay 1: How will you contribute to the mission of the Nurse Corps scholarship program in providing care to underserved communities?
Licensed practical nurses (LPN 's) fill an important role in modern health care practices. Their primary job duty is to provide routine care, observe patients’ health, assist doctors and registered nurses, and communicate instructions to patients regarding medication, home-based care, and preventative lifestyle changes (Hill). A Licensed Practical Nurse has various of roles that they have to manage on a day to day basis, such as being an advocate for their patients, an educator, being a counselor, a consultant, researcher, collaborator, and even a manager depending on what kind of work exactly that you do and where. It is the nursing process and critical thinking that separate the LPN from the unlicensed assistive personnel. Judgments are based
Imagine leaving everything you have ever known for your whole life behind. Your family, your friends, the comfort of having something familiar, all gone. All for a dangerous journey to get to a foreign place, having a fear that you might even not have a chance of making it. Many people endure this expedition like Enrique in search for a better life. Sonia Nazario has done an outstanding job with Enrique’s Journey making you feel as though you are on this journey with Enrique, as he is making this trek from Honduras to the U.S.
“The ultimate value of life depends upon awareness and the power of contemplation rather than upon mere survival” (Aristotle, n.d.)
The following essay is a reflective paper on an event that I encountered as a student nurse during my first clinical placement in my first year of study. The event took place in a long term facility. This reflection is about the patient whom I will call Mrs. D. to protect her confidentiality. Throughout this essay I will be using LEARN model of reflection. I have decided to reflect on the event described in this essay since I believe that it highlights the need for nurses to have effective vital signs ‘assessment skills especially when treating older patients with complex medical diagnoses.
According to the American Nurses Association, nursing is defined as “the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations” (American Nurses Association, 2016). Nurses have many jobs and responsibilities and wear many different hats. Nurses can perform at many different levels depending on their scope of practice which is defined by the board of nursing in one’s state of residence. It is important as nurses to understand and follow

Well, ever since I was just a youngster, I have always had a love and passion for airplanes. As a result, when I took my first trip on an airplane, I was really excited about it. To tell you a story, I was going to California when I had the opportunity to talk with the Pilots. I was authorized by them to go into the cockpit and not only look around, but they also let me sit in the Captain’s chair. While I couldn’t believe what was happening my fears all turned into fascinations and I realized how my dreams were turning into real things. As can be seen, I was almost sure that airplanes would take a huge role in my life. Few days later, holding a pen I remember writing down on a piece of paper: “Irvin, the best Pilot in the World". I was 7 years old at the time, and I already knew what my main
I've used my time between undergraduate and graduate studies to explore my mother’s culture. My mother immigrated to the United States from Peru. Having been born in the United States, I was exposed to a minor piece of her culture. I’ve become Americanized, and she frequently reminds me of the different world that she and my family come from in Peru. This year has given me the extraordinary opportunity to explore such places and culture.
Finally, Firnas’s attempts at human flight has also opened the doors to the future. Scientists are now thinking and developing new ways of travel. We can think toward the future and can imagine that flight might be the new form of daily travel. As drones are starting to deliver packages, we might see more and more personal flight machines to beat the traffic.
Saying that you are a registered nurse is a broad statement. Registered nursing is a job that has many aspects. From the dawn of time, man has followed his urge to travel; sometimes neglecting the enjoyment of the journey in pursuit of the destination. Although two of the favorable means of passenger transportation - the plane and the train - accomplish the task of arriving at a destination, there are distinct differences in their capacity for comfort, time, scenic value, and safety.
My biggest concern before leaving the United States was the obvious language barrier I would encounter. I had no prior experience with Spanish, and I was worried that I would
