Sometimes you think you're helping but you're actually hurting them. As I watched these films is saw many example of dignity and basic human rights. Poverty Inc was the only film that really actually caught my eye. It showed me how helping is tearing there business down and we are causing some poverty. We are taking away their basic right by almost shutting down there business, we are also stripping their dignity.
With these films I saw positive and negative dignity. I watched a family that was just simply going to adopt a child, but they didn't because the story with that area was the parents would send their kids to orphans for better life, evolve a simple place into one of the best orphanages. The family did not only help the children learn and find a better place but open up jobs/opportunities for the parents or others that are less fortunate. This helped them finically start a life. With the definition of dignity you showed find respect. This family showed have the up most respect out of anyone in this world or should be close. They moved theirselves in the worst place possible and this was just all to help no payment or reward.

If you would say this to someone that didn't watch this film would probably be very confused. By donating all this stuff we are taking away the owners of business that work hard just to move 100 miles to a better place. Why would the citizens of that village work or even purchase anything if they know they are just going to get stuff for free. No profit is being made and everyone is banking on these big trucks bringing them stuff. You could tell by the voice of these people that don't want these donate toons that they are anger. I feel that we should stop for just a little while but still help all the other ways, just to see if there is any
Bridge to Freedom provides the historical documentary behind the events that served as the narrative for Selma. Instead of a drama, the viewers receive an actual documentary that shows the confrontations between the marchers and the government. Like Selma, it highlights the violence, the deaths, and the beatings, but also goes further back in time to show society’s treatment of African Americans.
Overall, the SBS programme, Struggle Street (2015) provided a graphic insight into the hardships faced by lower-class Australians in Mount Druitt, Sydney. Nevertheless, viewing the programme allowed me to reflect and compare with my own observations of poverty within both Vietnam and Cambodia. The emotion I felt whilst watching the programme was incomparable to helplessly observing the great poverty within Cambodia.
“Poor Kids,” by PBS Frontline is a documentary that focuses on the children of three families living in poverty. The documentary gives a better understanding on how children are affected by the poverty they are faced with. The majority of the film focuses on their lives and it shows how they are living five years after the initial recording. It gives insight on how each family faces different circumstances due to their poverty.
After watching the documentary, “A Class Divided,” I was very impressed by the lesson that the teacher was performing with her students. Discrimination is an issue that has been around for a long time dating back to slavery and probably before that. Over time, society has become more welcoming but discrimination still exists today and may never completely go away. By doing this exercise with her students, the teacher is changing the world. If a group of ten people went through this exercise, then they learn that everyone is the same and they stop discriminating based on race. Those ten people later go on and tell their children, friends, and family about this exercise and they may also have a change of heart. That number now changes from ten to twenty to thirty. In the documentary, the teacher mentioned that this exercise is hurtful to some people and should not be performed on everyone because of controversial issues and how it can be emotionally traumatizing for some people. A small group still does so much for a society to change and evolve. The brown eye, blue eye method has a large impact and I wish more people knew of it
Hungry for Change is a thought provoking documentary produced by James Colquhoun and Laurentine ten Bosch that delves into the implications of eating a modern diet. Using pathos, facts and figures, and association, Hungry for Change delivers a meritorious performance that engages viewers and leaves them questioning their own diet and lifestyle choices. The film’s use of rhetorical and advertising strategies and its ability to captivate viewers make this an effective, life changing documentary.
After watching the 4 hour video, Half The Sky, I became more aware of how there are more people suffering and feeling much worse than I am. As a woman, I have felt the pain they were experiencing especially the young ones. I have never imagined such cruelty and inhumanity in this world. Most people feel that they should help the needy in some way or another. The problem is how to help them. This problem generally arises when there is a person sitting on the side of the road in battered clothes with a cardboard sign asking for some form of help, almost always in the form of money. Yet something makes the giver uneasy. What will they do with this money? Do they need this money? Will it really help them? The truth of the matter is, it won't. However, there are things that can be done to help the needy. Giving money to a reliable foundation will help the helpless, something that transferring money from a pocket to a man's tin can will never do.

The movie “The Pursuit of Happiness,” a biographical drama based on a true story, portrays the hardships that an African American man (played by Will Smith) and his son face together. This movie reveals the striking reality of poverty and emphasizes that most Americans are not living the ‘American Dream.’ Hollywood generally portrays an unrealistic image of the average American and leads people to believe that everyone is meeting financial requirements on time, purchasing nice vehicles, enjoying life in fancy homes, and not dealing with constant money shortages. Poverty is both a structural aspect of the system and consequence of how the system is organized and how people participate in it.

The French documentary Babies shows the first year of development of four different babies who live in four completely different environments. The film follows Ponijao, a little girl from Namibia, Bayar, a little boy from Mongolia, Mari, a girl from Tokyo, and Hattie, a girl from San Francisco. Even though the babies live in very dissimilar parts of the world, their physical, cognitive, and social development seem to all follow a set pattern. On the other hand, the babies learn to do some activities distinctive to their environment by watching their parents and siblings. Therefore, Babies provides evidence to support both the nature and nurture sides of the debate.
This is a critique of" Roger And Me", a documentary by Michael Moore. This is a film about a city that at one time had a great economy. The working class people lived the American dream. The majority of people in this town worked at the large GM factory. The factory is what gave these people security in their middle working class home life. Life in the city of Flint was good until Roger Smith the CEO of GM decided to close the factory. This destroyed the city. Violent crime became the highest in the nation, businesses went bankrupt, people were evicted from their rented homes. There were no jobs and no opportunity. Life was so bad that Money magazine named Flint the worst place to live in the entire nation. When news of the factory closing first broke, Michael Moore a native of flint decided to search for Roger Smith and bring him to Flint.

Poverty can be defined in many different ways but according to the encyclopedia, poverty is the lack of many things like basic human needs, for example clean and fresh water, nutrition, health care, education, clothing and shelter. The inability to afford them is what causes poverty. The cause and effect of poverty placed in many different places. Some may say that poverty can be the result from lack of money but the truth lies deeper than that. The purpose of this paper is to discuss some of the major causes and sub causes, as well as effects of poverty.
