Post-secondary education (college) is a great starting point to getting a step forward towards the careers awaiting high school and undergraduate students look forward to when finishing their College. Many careers that many students look forward to require experience in a certain degree that College can provide. Therefore, college would be a great starting point to get started towards my career goal as a Game Designer/3D Animator, by starting me off in a direction that would teach me the basics of these certain careers.
A personal goal that made me want to further pursue a college education was to help support my family and I financially in the future. This goal would be helped with a college education by earning a degree that would build a
starting step towards a financially stable job that would be able to provide enough for me to help out with my family financial problems. The college education I would gain would start my way towards completing one of my biggest personal goals in my life. My educational goal, to learn as much as I can about game design and 3D animating, started with my hobbies in 3D modeling, drawing, writing stories and playing video games. Learning more and more about game design would help implement my skills in 3D modeling and programing towards my future career goal to become a indie game developer. With college education in this area of interest I believe it would help me pursue my educational goals as well. My occupational goal, which is to become an indie game developer, is another reason for me to pursue a college degree in Game Design. In order to get closer to reaching my goal, I would have to learn as much as I could about designing a model properly, programming more professionally, and animate with more fluid and controlled motions. College education would help me further pursue my goal to start my own indie game development company by teaching me the certified skills that will bring this goal together. Attending college would help me attain my goals further by teaching me the assets and skills needed to build my way up to these goals. College would help flesh out my knowledge with the skills I already know and don’t know. Attending the classes that college would provide a more professional outlook on the skills needed for the goals and also help me towards my way to a career to help attain even my personal goal.
One of the proudest accomplishments of my life was earning my high school diploma, despite all the hard work that led me where I am today was well worth it. I am considered one of the first generation in my family to go to college, putting a lot of meaning behind why I believe I should go on to a different path. From a very young age I have always held high expectations of myself, even of the numerous changes in careers I had obtained an interest in. I have always envisioned myself going to college because I certainly value education. I believe that the more education I receive, the more valuable I am to this generation of the work force. Not only does my passion of learning hold place in the reasoning behind why I want to go to college, but because of my role models growing up. Post-Secondary education can be a very important aspect to an individual’s life. Pursuing post-secondary education and obtaining a university degree opens up a wide range of high-paying career opportunities. However, there has recently been an increase in the number of students who do not finish their program and graduate. If a university degree gives us more job opportunities and a better salary, why are students leaving their universities and not finishing their degrees? There are many macro and micro sociological factors that students deal with every day. Macro sociological factors are events or predicaments that the individual has no control over (Steckley, 2014). Micro sociological factors are events that an individual does have control over (Steckley, 2014). Postsecondary education provides unique opportunities for student development, and universities need to provide an inclusive space for student learning. With an increasingly diverse student population, Canada has seen an increase in the number of immigrants, reaching 21.9% of Canadians in 2016 (Statistics Canada, 2017). Although there is a higher participation rate of postsecondary education institutions among first and second generation immigrants than non-immigrants (Finnie & Muller, 2008), not all immigrant students achieve “above-average educational outcomes” (Berger, 2009, p. 61). However, there are very few studies concerning the challenges and learning needs of immigrant students during their postsecondary education in Canada. Quinn
