Who would have guessed that the once mere concept of artificial intelligence (AI) could actually be a reality in the year 2015? Artificial intelligence is the intelligence exhibited by machines or software. It is also the name of the academic field of study which studies how to create computers and computer software that are capable of intelligent behavior. But we can go even deeper into the topic and question: really what defines intelligence? In this day and age if you were to ask a child this question I’m sure it was greatly differ from a child’s answer thirty, twenty or even ten years ago. The technological world is ever-changing, growing exponentially and very quickly and this is causing extreme effects on the lives of every person on …show more content…
is not a negative situation. The creation of technology has thousands of positive effects on our society today, causing almost everything to move quicker and more efficiently. Putting in a job application, going to the checkout line at the grocery store, research, the astounding developments in the automobile and medical industry, the list goes on and on. The technological world is not a dark and negative one, because we are not completely reliant on technology, yet. A person that I am inspired by every day in my life once told me “knowledge is power” then soon after quoted the movie Spiderman in saying that “with great power comes great responsibility”. I believe that this directly applies to the way we should handle the forever growing mountain of knowledge that is the technological world. If handled incorrectly the future generations of the human race could become completely dependent technology and forget about the thousands of years of knowledge that our generations before us hold within the confines of their brains. There are times before us that we know nothing of unless written by or have it told to us by someone who was there, that is human tradition and the only way to keep this knowledge alive. If we were to fuel an entirely technologically based future for ourselves the chances of that knowledge being present are …show more content…
When I was five years old I could barely, if at all, work the television remote. This does not mean that I was an unintelligent five year old, this just means that it wasn’t expected of me. Most five year olds in the late nineties weren’t familiar with the television remote or even the television functions, let alone a computer. These children today were born in an age where their parents are using the computers, smartphones and tablets more frequently and for more reasons than my parents ever used a television. The new world that this generation is being brought up will have a paramount effect on their concept of intelligence if they are not taught to value human history and the knowledge that the people who have come before them hold. The word “smart phone” alone tells you quite a bit about what we are teaching the children of this world to consider to be
Technology is supposed to be seen as such an advancement and great accomplishment. What others may not always know is sometimes it isn’t all fun and games, it can be dangerous. As seen when we created the atomic bomb and guns, their only purpose is to destroy and cause pain to others. Although they are not always in use, they are a constant threat to our well being. We need to take into consideration the positives and the negatives of the technology we create today.
The official foundations for "artificial intelligence" were set forth by A. M. Turing, in his 1950 paper "Computing Machinery and Intelligence" wherein he also coined the term and made predictions about the field. He claimed that by 1960, a computer would be able to formulate and prove complex mathematical theorems, write music and poetry, become world chess champion, and pass his test of artificial intelligences. In his test, a computer is required to carry on a compelling conversation with humans, fooling them into believing they are speaking with another human. All of his predictions require a computer to think and reason in the same manner as a human. Despite 50 years of effort, only the chess championship has come true. By refocusing artificial intelligence research to a more humanlike, cognitive model, the field will create machines that are truly intelligent, capable of meet Turing's goals. Currently, the only "intelligent" programs and computers are not really intelligent at all, but rather they are clever applications of different algorithms lacking expandability and versatility. The human intellect has only been used in limited ways in the artificial intelligence field, however it is the ideal model upon which to base research. Concentrating research on a more cognitive model will allow the artificial intelligence (AI) field to create more intelligent entities and ultimately, once appropriate hardware exists, a true AI.
The title may startle anyone. Is it possible to make such a device or system by using it the blind can see the pictures from Facebook? The answer is it is not only thinkable but also possible. The artificial intelligence has made it possible already. It can translate the picture from Facebook into being for the blind people.
Artificial intelligence, more commonly called AI, has become the new frontier of human advancement and has gradually been coming into the public eye. Much like eras such as the stone age and the iron age, it is now the age of intelligent technology. Unlike the technological advancements of the past, though, this time, some issues surround the field. While it has been used for good such as developing cures for diseases or making knowledge more available to the populace, with its capabilities it could possibly create some problems as well as good. The reason it is such a debatable topic is because whichever direction humankind goes about developing AI will determine the future of humanity in how everyday life and jobs would get done. Considering
Mankind will be reduced to a lazy, incapable, and less dominant being because of artificial intelligence (AI). This idea is a possible future outcome if artificial intelligence is allowed to be created and used in people’s everyday lives. That is because AI is there to replace human’s need to think. AI’s main purpose is to make people’s lives easier and help reduce the number of mistakes made in society. The majority of the population wants AI to be created to take over their boring, everyday lives. Many people don’t want to have to deal with the burden and stress of mundane activities. Nobody knows or can even comprehend what AI is capable of because a complete version has never been created. There have been plenty
Artificial Intelligence is in the simplest of terms, an electronic brain. For decades, computer and electronics experts have envisioned creating a machine equally as intelligent as a human being. Initially it was little more than the idea behind chilling science fiction novels. Threatening types of robotic machines fueled the negative side of any discussion over the artificial intelligence pros and cons.
Technology in the recent century has grown tremendously and it is evident that technology will be involved in every aspect of our daily lives. Today we have the Internet, smartphones, laptops and even autonomous vehicles. One of the most innovations that have intrigued human beings for many years is Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI is the computer science are computer systems that can perform tasks that normally require human intelligence such as speech recognition, decision-making and etc. AI is something that most people believed could only occur in science fiction but has now turned to a reality. Artificial intelligence is already revolutionizing transportation, home/service robots, health care, entertainment, education, public safety
Artificial Intelligence (AI), also known as machine Intelligence, refers to the Intelligence demonstrated by the Artificial system.Usually artificial intelligence is the intelligence achieved through ordinary computers. The term also means studying whether such a smart system can be implemented and how it can be achieved.
In order to see how artificial intelligence plays a role on today’s society, I believe it is important to dispel any misconceptions about what artificial intelligence is. Artificial intelligence has been defined many different ways, but the commonality between all of them is that artificial intelligence theory and development of computer systems that are able to perform tasks that would normally require a human intelligence such as decision making, visual recognition, or speech recognition. However, human intelligence is a very ambiguous term. I believe there are three main attributes an artificial intelligence system has that makes it representative of human intelligence (Source 1). The first is problem solving, the ability to look ahead several steps in the decision making process and being able to choose the best solution (Source 1). The second is the representation of knowledge (Source 1). While knowledge is usually gained through experience or education, intelligent agents could very well possibly have a different form of knowledge. Access to the internet, the la...
Artificial Intelligence will change the future of how we do business in the current market. In general, it will change the future. This technology is more complex than anything humans have ever created. The rise in AI is a very real aspect of the world we live in. With companies looking to cut costs and increase innovation to new frontiers, AI is being developed to help with both. However, the thought of having technology that is able to consciously think is scary to some. Although some may fear it, AI has numerous benefits to utilizing this technology in the business world.
Artificial intelligence, or AI, is a branch of computer science that attempts to simulate intelligent behavior in computer. Intelligence is defined as the ability to apply knowledge to manipulate one's environment or to think abstractly. Normally we hold humans as the standard of intelligence because we are the most intelligent beings that we know of. Intelligence is normally not characterized by just one trait, but
The human brain is a complex marvel capable of endless processes. It can imagine, reason, produce works of great wonder, and make sense of intricate disciplines, such as politics and economics. Artificial Intelligence (AI) aims to replicate this, creating machines capable of completing human tasks more efficiently. A machine, equipped with a sense of awareness and an ever growing base of knowledge, represents the promise of technology but also the potential destruction of humanity. Before calling artificial intelligence into existence, humans must consider the issues linked with artificial intelligence that may threaten their livelihoods: the risk of hostility, ceded control over information, and a diminished role in an AI dominated world.
Artificial intelligence, or AI, is a field of computer science that attempts to simulate characteristics of human intelligence or senses. These include learning, reasoning, and adapting. This field studies the designs of intelligent agents, or a system that acts intelligibly. The term artificial intelligence is confusing and misleading however. Artificial intelligence is still a form of intelligence, but perhaps “synthetic intelligence” is a better name because it is not natural intelligence. This is why the name “computational intelligence”, or CI, is sometimes preferred. Artificial intelligence is used in many objects that we use everyday: cars, microwaves, personal computers, and videogames.
One of the most influential icons in the history of men, Albert Einstein, once stated, “I fear that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.” What Einstein meant was, further improvements of technology the world gets could not always mean as an advantage in all aspects. Smart phones, being
Artificial Intelligence “is the ability of a human-made machine to emulate or simulate human methods for the deductive and inductive acquisition and application of knowledge and reason” (Bock, 182). The early years of artificial intelligence were seen through robots as they exemplified the advances and potential, while today AI has been integrated society through technology. The beginning of the thought of artificial intelligence happened concurrently with the rise of computers and the dotcom boom. For many, the utilization of computers in the world was the most advanced role they could ever see machines taking. However, life has drastically changed from the 1950s. This essay will explore the history of artificial intelligence, discuss the
