Psychologists have also been studying the medical phenomena caused by smart phone
use. People who incorrectly feel or hear their phone go off are said to have experienced Phantom
Cell Phone Vibration Syndrome, and those who are physically affected by the loss of their phone
are diagnosed with “monophobia“—the fear of not having your mobile phone. Perhaps
Mobile is the first order priority device for access because people are connecting with others, finding entertainment, and doing business—all with smart phones. The prices of mobile phones are never over $1,000 in today’s world. They are affordable and accessible. As the result of the changes the worldwide and national business environment has undergone, people own 1-2 cell phones on average. However, the mobile markets in US seems to have been saturated.
People are in touch with each other with a click of a button, or the touch of a screen. Yet, these instant messages and lightning fast communications are starting to become the norm. No longer is it merely a luxury to have a smart phone, now it’s the standard; especially if 64% of American adults now possess a smart phone (Smith). Trying to live life without the ways of on-the-spot connection, people find it
The advancement of cell phone technology in the last decade is truly astounding because back then most people’s cell phones had such limited capabilities. Cell phones or smart phones as they are also known today have so many advanced abilities it’s more like having a pocket sized computer in your grasp. We can
Today’s society accepted phones so fast and easily, that most of the things that can harm us, are actually some of our social norms that we don’t even realize we are doing. Cell phones can have effects on the way people think and act, their interactions with people in society, and the amount information people retain from the direct result of multi-tasking. Cell phones are a very important asset to people, and good resources of information, but they can have negative effects on people such as depression, anxiety, and addiction to the use of the cell phone. Distractions from cell phone use have also been linked to many motor vehicle accidents as well. Cell phones were created to make our lives better, and more efficient, but do they harm us more than help
The notion that the cell phone may one day become obsolete may never become reality. The concept of personal computing and communication (which is essentially what the smartphone is today) can never be defunct. Humans are built to connect with one another and we see instances of this throughout our lifetime. We are born into families, biological or not. We go to church to gather with our congregation. We’re sent to school to learn with other children our age. To eventually work with like-minded people, meet our spouses and have a family of our own. Our phones revolutionized even more with the bang of social media. The proliferation of social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram just to name a few, forever changed the dynamic of our social interactions. Through Instagram I can lie on the beaches of Cap Ferrat in the French Riviera with my cousin who visits there every year or I can open my Vine app and swim with tropical fishes in the Bahamas with my best friend Chelsi who loves the beach. In addition, cell phones enable us to interact with people we wouldn’t normally encounter. This not only permits us to learn from one other and the world around us, but we can help in times of need. In fact, during Hurricane Sandy our cell phones played an important role. In 2012 someone had the idea to create a Facebook page that bridged the gap between victims and good Samaritans
The iPhone, a 4.5 by 2.4inch hand held phone, iPod, and web browser, allows users to switch from one application to another effortlessly. All its functions can be accessed with just the touch of a finger, making the iPhone the most advanced portable device ever; the iPhone has a glass widescreen with touch controls that let the user browse their content, including music, audio books, videos, TV shows, and movies on the largest phone display to date. Users can make a call by simply tapping a name or number in the address book, a favorites list, or a call log. It also automatically syncs all of the users’ contacts from a PC, Mac, or Internet service. Additionally, the iPhone enables users to select and listen to voicemail messages in any order, just like email, a feature exc...

Cellular phones are the world’s most popular mobile device used by Americans today. What many Americans fail to realize are the negative impacts cell phones may have on someone. Cell phones are distracting, they can cause benign tumors and cancer, can used for cyber bullying, spread germs, and viruses, and are highly addictive. Indeed, billions of people all over the world use cell phones. Many of those people do not realize how dangerous cell phones really are.
So the question is, how is the evolution of smartphones impacting our society? History of Smartphones According to Reed (2010), smartphones were first brought to the attention of the public in 1993 by IBM and BellSouth. When the first smartphone was produced, it was called "Simon". Even though the technology was nowhere near what it is today, "Simon" utilized a touch screen and was able send faxes and access e-mail. The use of the touch screen foreshadowed what would come 14 years later, the iPhone.

Technology can be conveyed as a necessary evil in our life today. It’s considered necessary because it can save lives, and make them easier. Yet it’s considered evil because it can destroy lives on a physical and mental aspect. The true question is does the good outway the bad? ‘Technology is a word used to collectively describe or portray the advancements, abilities, creations, undertaking, views, and knowledge of the human-kind”(https://www.academia.edu/346486/Technological_Advancements_and_Its_Impact_on_Humanity). Therefore it basically means that it progresses the human race. It connects us, conserves energy and produces goods, and it saves lives. How could it not be a good thing?
The world today is a result of centuries of evolution; one of the major adaptations is technology, specifically the invention of the smartphone. The smartphone is a cellular phone that has the capabilities of performing similar functions to that of a computer (Oxford Dictionaries’ online dictionary, n.d.). The smartphone is owned by youth for the most part; however, adults and seniors are also turning toward using this device. This in turn demonstrates the popularity of this marvelous device, and is the reason why it is constantly monitored by its users. The continuous evolving of the populations' wants and needs such as communication, searching of information, entertainment and recording, makes owning a smartphone essential, and beneficial as it is portable, reliable and efficient.
These are just some of the issues that come along with the use of mobile devices. Other issues that have arose are the need for text stops and law that prohibit the use of cell phones while driving (1, 2). People have now become so dependent on mobile devices that they feel they are missing a limb when they don't have the device in their possession (3). These are some of the more serious issues while some minor ones include: excessive use and a lack of patients because information is just a tap away (4). The excessive use of cell phones leads to other harmful effects such as a loss in studies because of excessive texting, calling, and being on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram. With these distractions students are not giving their studies their full attention, which then leads to poor grades. While the use of cell phones does have some good qualities the bad out weigh them.
They are a distraction to not only the owners of the smartphone, but to everyone around them as well. In the classroom in particular, they are counterproductive to the learning process fostered in the classroom. Sarwar and Soomro (2013) stated that in the classroom setting smartphones can enable students to text, check emails, play games and even watch TV during class preventing them from participating and potentially stop others from doing so as well. It is also referenced that smartphones can be used to cheat during exams due to being able to access information online through one 's phone. The distraction smartphones cause outside the classroom is just as dire. Smartphones distract people while they walk down the street and even worse while they drive. Hecht (2013) states that the problem is that truly safe driving demands the driver 's full attention and that multitasking, such as interacting with your phone while you drive, divides our already limited amount of attention. People are so consumed by their phones and all the stuff it can do that they aren 't paying attention to what is right in front of them. These distractions, while also dangerous, take away from individuals experiencing their own lives. This is which is the opposite of what they are trying to accomplish by using said cell phone, by trying to experience more they are instead experiencing
