Imperialism is the practice of one country taking over another country in order to help themselves. It caused many positive and negative effects that had major impacts on everyone. Imperialism caused rivalry and religion to become more likely to happen. Due to imperialism it caused a lot of rivalry between other countries. Another cause of imperialism is the spreading of religion throughout different countries. Rivalry and religion caused both positive and negative effects. As a result, imperialism caused many positive and negative things to happened which affected everyone.
Imperialism was caused by multiple factors but the large ones were religion and rivalry. Religion and rivalry were very important parts to imperialism. Imperialism caused religion to spread throughout different countries. “We had the Bible and they had the land.” (Source C). This quote shows how the missionaries came to the natives land took over their land and gave them their religion in return. They spread religion by traveling from country to country sharing their religion and when the people believe in it they have fully taken over their land. Another cause of imperialism is

rivalry because more and more countries fought to take over other countries. This caused rivalry because a lot of the times different countries fought over the same country which caused rivalry. As seen in Source A, different countries were fighting over China, especially Germany and England who were staring at each other and fighting for China (Source A). The picture shows rivalry because all of the countries are fighting with each other to take over China. Therefore religion and rivalry were very important causes of imperialism. A large part of imperialism was the rivalry that was caused throughout it.
Since there was a lot of land available, all the countries wanted it which lead to rivalries. A negative effect from rivalry was wars, which eventually lead to death. As seen in source A, the countries fought over land and in this picture they are seen fighting over China specifically (Source A). This was an effect of Imperialism because imperialism was the thing that cased this rivalry in the first place so if imperialism hadn’t happened most likely there rivalries wouldn’t have happened. Along with rivalries imperialism caused death since the wars that the rivaries caused. Many people died because they were fighting over land. Without imperialism none of this would have happened. As a result imperialism affected the world in a negative
way. Although imperialism had negative effects it also had positive effects. A positive effect of imperialism was the resources that were gained. Imperialism allowed more trading which gave countries new items. “This has brought an ancient and civilized nation in touch with modern thought, modern sciences and modern life.” (Source E). This states that the “ancient and civilized nation” got more modern because of imperialism. They got modern thought, newer sciences and a more modern lifestyle than before. This positively affected them because they were able to be more modernized because of imperialism. This positively affected them since they were more modern because of imperialism this allowed them to advance in a lot. Therefore, a positive effect of imperialism is the resources that were gained during the time period. Without imperialism the world would be very different than it is today. Imperialism caused an increase in rivalries and resources which had positive and negative effects on society. The negative effects were the increase in wars and death. The positive effects of imperialism were the resources that allowed the community to modernize everything. This was important because everything that happened with imperialism affected the world and most of it still affects the world to this day. In conclusion, imperialism caused a lot of events to happen which had both positive and negative effects.
Differing perspectives exist on the topic of imperialism. Some of the main causes of imperialism were the need for resources to supply the industrial revolution with raw materials, and maintain a supply of cheap labor. There was also the desire to sustain a steady market for exported manufactured goods.
Imperialism is the domination of a weaker country by a stronger country. For instance Britain dominated India and China in the mid 1880s to the beginning of the 20th century. Imperialism has had both a positive and negative effects on the countries involved. Britain was imperialistic for many reasons, it could dominate because it had the technology and power to do so. They also needed land to acquire raw materials for growing markets.
Imperialism took place in the late 1800’s through the early 1900’s and it defines one country’s superiority over another. Specifically, The United States practiced imperialism for the desire to strengthen military and create new markets for money. It led to many wars and disputes over countries, heavily in Latin America. Imperialism was not a proper and legitimate policy for the United States to follow.
When one thinks of imperialism they often refer to the concept with very strong feelings. The general population will either agree with it or disagree. There tends to be no middle ground. The best way to look at imperialism is with an impartial mind. If one looks at imperialism with an open mind then they are able to see both the strengths and the weaknesses that it harbors. Throughout history one is most likely able to name several circumstances where imperialism took place and also point out the obvious aftermath of. Imperialism tends to have a greater good behind it, but unfortunately may have been executed poorly.
Imperialism had some positive effects regardless of how strict and unfair it was. Some positive effects can be seen in documents 2 and 7, which talks about what the mother nation gave to their colonized nations. These oppressors built them roads, canals, railways, and gave them education. They also introduced to them telegraphs, newspapers, and overall made them economized. Another positive effect can be read on documents 1 and 5. These documents show how both the oppressors and oppressed benefit from getting new resources such as raw m...
Imperialism is the practice by which powerful nations or peoples seek to extend and maintain control or influence over weaker nations or peoples. By the 1800’s, the Western powers had advantages in this process. They led the world in technological advances, giving them a dominance when conquering other countries. The European Imperialists made attempts to conquer China and Japan. In this process, they succeeded by influencing Japan greatly. However, they were not as successful with China.
Imperialism is the colonizing of weak peoples by stronger nations and sucking all of the natural resources out of their land. The age of Imperialism was in the late 1800s through the early 1900s. The main region that was the sovereign states in this time period was Europe. Imperialism is viewed negatively because it was enforced with excessive violence. Avatar mirrors the Age of Imperialism and how it was enforced with the military powers at play, the attempt to use economic influence, and the attempt to assimilate native people.
Although imperialism helped the colonized people by improving the economy and the lives of the people, for the most part imperialism hurt the colonized people because the people were forced to grow cash crops which led to death by starvation. First of all, imperialism improved the lives of the colonized people by aiding economic growth. The imperial powers prompted industrialization in the colonies, which is the development of advanced technology, leading to modernization in the colony. This is the change to a more modern, a more advanced country with new technology and better standards of living. These improvements then led to an increase in self-sufficiency, being able to maintain the colony’s economy by itself.
Imperialism was one of the things that played a major role in World War I. Imperialism is basically when one country tries to take over another country in various ways. Germany was attempting to control lands in Africa, which was a place that Britain and France had already established. (Brown, B. (2009, April 23). Causes of world war I (great war). Imperialism takes a lot of time to develop in terms of establishing the dominance needed to secure another nation or country. Therefore, imperialism is seen as a long-term cause WWI. (Brown, B. (2009, April 23). Causes of world war I (great war). By gaining land through imperialism, they had the idea that the country that gained the land would also gain valuable resources like the people and money. (Nationalism, imperialism, and militarism in world war I. (n.d.).
The Negative Force of American Expansionism and Imperialism Many people believe that American Expansionism and Imperialism was a positive force, that it did more good than bad. However, many people disagree with this popular notion. Many good things do come out of it, but the bad ultimately trumps the good. There were several problems between whites and Natives and because of the problems countless people died. To start off, American Expansionism and Imperialism brought isolation to America.
Imperialism was one of the four contributing factors to the cause of World War One, along with secret alliances, militarism, and nationalism. It is the most important cause of WW1, because it created a build-up of tension in Europe and outside of Europe, and through imperialism, the three other causes were able to affect the beginnings of the war. Imperialism is defined as the governing of one people by another country, which was a recurring dilemma prior to WW1 due to the industrialist movement. Although not all events that fall into the imperialistic category were about controlling another country, they contributed to the war, and imperialistic events were the foundation of the cause of WW1.
Although there are many other important factors, the main cause of the rise of imperialism was most certainly economic. The Age of Empire, by Eric J. Hobsbawn, provides an interpretation of New Imperialism. Hobsbawn calls imperialism “a natural by-product of the international economy” (Sherman pg 177). He is basically saying that imperialism is dependent on the rivalries of competing industries, which continually drive the international economy. Hobsbawn also dictates the need for external markets. The Industrial Revolution created many products that needed markets, thus creating a need of colonies. Hobsbawn believed that the overproduction of the Industrial Revolution and the Great Depression could be solved. He also realized that many businessmen knew that they could make a large profit off of China’s large population. For example, if every one of the three hundred million Chinese purchased one box of tin-tacks the businessmen knew that there would be a huge profit, consequently increasing the desire for colonization of weaker countries.
Imperialism is when one country takes over another just for power. Do you think that this is a good thing or not? To me this is not a good thing. Imperialism did not help us at all. All it did was make us hate each other even more. Without imperialism, Africa would be more civilized and not have most of their people starving. If imperialism never happend Africa would not had to go through all of the torture that they did go through. Imperialism was not a good thing because, There was slavery, warfare, mother countries fought over other smaller countries.
The concept of imperialism is one that has pervaded nearly every major society or empire throughout human history. It seems to be a natural consequence of societies growing in size, power, and knowledge. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries vast changes occurred in Western Europe (and soon spread elsewhere) that spurred a new round of imperialism the likes of which had not been seen before. The changes were the industrial revolution that was taking place. Countries were rapidly advancing to industrial societies producing much greater quantities of goods at much lower costs. The goods produced ranged everywhere from cotton textiles to military machinery, all of which would play important roles in rounds of imperialistic expansion that would follow. The imperialistic displays by Western European nations also brought about several other industrial revolutions in other regions including the Ottoman Empire, Russia, and Japan. I will take a look at how the industrial revolution encouraged imperialistic expansion, as well as some of the results of that expansion in other regions.
Throughout history, imperialism has led countries to extend their rule over weaker countries and then colonized those countries to expand their own power. Imperialism allows the ruling countries to use the weaker countries for their resources. Colonizing other countries would then lead to growth and a better reputation for the dominating country. There are many examples of imperialism throughout European history. When many European countries “scrambled” for Africa, it seemed as though Africa had no say in anything. During the 19th century, Europe found a way to use Africa for their own growth and power. Using Africa for their resources, the Europeans colonized Africa without a second thought. European imperialism in Africa had a negative impact because of social disarray, cultural loss, and death it caused.
