From the anti-biblical teachings in schools, to the anti-biblical messages in media, national and popular culture has secularized, proving itself incompatible with religious practice. This difficulty to untie has arisen from the media's ability to secularize and even oppose religious doctrine. Television, movies, and music depict acts of adultery and the loss of sexual innocence as favorable acts rather than being indecent. Popular culture has influenced national culture to the point to teaching anti-biblical National and popular culture, through encouraging acts of sexual corruption which do not coincide with religious practice, has caused an incompatibility between the two. Through television and movies, the fundamental mediums of promoting the ideas of sexual immorality, the secular ideals of popular culture are spread.Sexual natured television, such as shows like Desperate Housewives and movies such as Unfaithful, explore the world of adultery. These portrayals of common people committing these acts of indecency are more than just simple fiction stories, influencing ...
Cahill sees Scripture as having three dimensions, which she defines as “the specific texts on the issue at hand, specific texts on related issues, and general biblical themes or patterns” (64). For specific texts, she mentions Leviticus, Deuteronomy, and Paul’s letters to the Corinthians, the Romans, and Timothy. Citing the historical and social contexts of the Old Testament texts, she dismisses them as not easily applicable to modern society (65). When she considers Paul, she questions whether his lists of sins translate well into modern moral discourse because of Paul’s primary concern with idolatry and because of the Greek model of homosexuality, which greatly differs from modern homosexual relationships that resemble marriage (65). Though she does not specifically state it, implicit in these references to historical context is doubt about the Spirit-inspired nature of the Scriptures. In questioning the ability of the Scriptu...
Far too often, we are influenced mentally and socially by Media. The new millennium has accepted all sources of media has almost more prudent source of information. As defined by The Merriam Webster Dictionary , Media is “a medium of cultivation, conveyance, or expression (Smiler).” For the purposes of this essay, I will condense the broad spectrum of media and focus specifically on these forms : print media, television , movies, and the internet. Within the Written composition, A trifling media written by Shakira Smiler, she carefully examines piece by piece why she believes not only men are trifling but as well how media has influenced why it's acceptable. Within her exposition, she speaks to infidelity , immaturity, and specifically, seeing
In an article ' The Plug-In Drug ' the author Marie Winn discusses the bad influence of television on today's society. Television is a ' drug ' that interfere with family ritual, destroys human relationships and undermines the family.
In a study by the American Psychology Association, secularization is defined as “a person whose value comes from his or her sexual appeal or behavior” (Zurbiggen: pg1 para.3). One example of the various ways popular culture is targeting young girls is through social media sites. In this day and age, many young girls spend several hours on the computer on social media sites. In the documentary “Sexy Baby” the writers Bauer and Gradus tell the stories of three young women and how secularization has affected their lives. One of the main characters twelve year old Winifred, “changes from a gymnastics loving little girl to a moody young woman who post pictures of her cleavage on Facebook” (Wilmore: para.6).

One of the most pressing problems facing America today is our moral crisis. This problem is one that is related to many other social dilemmas. It has a correlation to our rising crime rate, drug usage, and a trend towards sexual irresponsibility. It is imminent for Americans to find a cure for this moral disease lest we are bound for chaos. In order to solve this problem we must first, as with any problem, determine the causes. One of the causes is the overall tolerance of things that are immoral. Immorality can be defined as anything that deteriorates the decency, honorable or artistic merit, and overall purity of things. Today our society is one that accepts this trait. Tolerance of music and television that is morally questionable and an overall acceptance of a growing trend of sexual irresponsibility. That cause is the one that is possibly the most challenging one to remedy. The antidote includes a change of the current American attitude towards immorality. Another cause is the decline of the American family. The way to rid ourselves of this causing factor is to promote a more traditional family and encourage sexual responsibility. A third source of the destruction of America’s moral base is the media, It is becoming a crude exhibit of America’s worst ethics. The remedy for this component of the problem is to more strictly regulate and censor the media.
The first century morality was not unlike our twenty-first century morality. Premarital and extra-marital affairs exist in both. Prostitution is common in both centuries. The speed in which sexual perverseness can occur in today’s society can occur at a much more rapid rate due to the Internet, however, with the same outcome as it was then, the defiling of one’s body, a body that belongs to God. God forgives us as Christians, as King David wa...
However, since the death of these men, I believe our civil rights have strengthened just a tiny bit, it has weakened as well though. Most of us aren’t against blacks, whites, or Hispanics but we are actually against other religions and nationalities. Christianity, Catholicism, and Islam have caused many wars and conflicts. All the hate just causes more deaths, wars, and conflicts.

For many years now, religion and popular culture have been able to feed on one another's influence on the community. Popular culture impacts how ideas are shared throughout a society typically conveyed in an entertaining manner. Religion has been utilized as a relative topic by media to better resonate with audiences from multiple backgrounds. This has lead to opportunities for religion to be used within many different media sources like music, movies, and books.

an also kept very private. Since feminists and adult film has come together over the past couple of years , many adults films has not been the same. Feminist bring a middle ground of the fantasy world and some social problems together. They bring about ways that stop inequality , from the color of your skins to your sexual orientation. Society see adult films as woman being degraded , but feminist see it as woman being empowered and coming in tune with one self. So in this paper we will discuss how many people see adult films as a social problem and others question why should it be a social problem.
The Effects of Popular Culture on Society Popular Culture is music, dance, theatre, film,T.V., poetry and Art which is enjoyed by a wide group of people. Some people would argue that popular culture in the 1960's cause harm. Other people however argued that other factors brought harm and change to society. Some people would argue that music would cause harm because of the lyrics in pop songs. Lyrics like 'Lets spend the night together' by The Rolling Stones, influenced young people to have casual sex.
These questions arise from our own desires as Christians to reflect a biblically sound attitude towards sexuality and relationships. That same desire to act according to biblical scriptures is subject to opposition from today’s culture and views about sexual relationships, gender, and roles. A new definition of marriage, sexual orientation, and sexual practices is challenging our relationship with God and our view of human sexuality. Bishop John Spong defines sex and its impact on relationships: “Sex can be called at once the greatest gift to humanity and the greatest enigma of our lives. It is a gift in that is a singular joy for all beings and enigma in its destructive potential for people and their relationships.” (Spong, 1988)
“Sex and religion? Those two don’t really go hand in hand,” commented by a freshmen student from UF. Like this student, numerous people around the world believe this misconception to be true. Whether people argue for or against the importance of sex in religion, more than just what goes on the bedroom has been heating up lately. Many debates have sparked due to the negative connotation associated with sex when confronted about its position in religious cultures. A study done had proven a direct relationship between religiosity and sexual attitudes in college student, but to what extent are their spiritual values influential in their sexual beliefs and what are the reasons behind this (Beckwith, n.pg.). Either way, there is to some extent an influence on sexual behavior, whether it is by gender, ethnicity, or religion. After extensive research and several interviews, I’m determined to find the truth about sex and its importance in religious cultures, its effects on spirituality, and the roles it plays in religion.
