How do you define a hero? What is our true definition of a hero? Some people's definition of a hero is the ones in capes, but what if there was three….in leather jacket,Ponyboy,Dally,Johnny are considered heroes because. Ponyboy is a hero because he was the first one to go into the burning church,as it says on the last paragraph on page 91 “Ill get them, don't worry!”I started a dead run towards the church”,this shows that ponyboy is hero because he risked his own life just for the sake of the little kids,.And he never even hesitated for one second,he had his mind set to save those kids. Dally is a hero because he was the one who gave johnny and ponyboy the gun without getting nervous he really never cared about going to jail, and in the middle of page 55 it says “ Here-he handed us a gun and a roll of bills-”the guns loaded.for pete's sake, johnny don't point the thing at me.heres fifty bucks.that’s all i could get out of Merril tonight.he's blowing his loot from that last race”,this shows dally is a hero because if it was anyone else that would have never gone to the extent dally …show more content…
did for those boys,he was also the one who got the kids out from the burning church alongside,Johnny, and Ponyboy.
Johnny is a hero because he was one of the people that helped ponyboy, and dally get the kids out of the church,he risked his own life to get the kids out,as it says on page 83 it says “ i was coughing so hard i could hardly stand up,and i wished i had time to take of dallys jacket.it was hot.we dropped the last of the kids out as the front of the church started to crumble.johnny shoved me toward the window “ Get out!” I leaped out of the window and heard timber crashing and the flames roaring right behind me.i staggered, almost falling, coughing and sobbing for breath.then i heard johnny scream, and as i turned to go back for him, dally swore at me and clubbed me in the head as hard as he could,i went down in a peaceful darkness”.This proves that he went into that burning building and continued to save these children even if it meant he would get struck by a falling, burning piece of wood. My conclusion is that Johnny,Dally,Ponyboy are heroes because they risked it all for those kids and themselves, they had no fear when they went into the burning church, they had their mind on the kids and even if there greasers doesn't mean they can't be heroes, they showed us that even if they come from a bad part of town they still show there not that bad kids.So after reading this what do you think a hero is?
Ponyboy was a bad kid, he fought against Socs and he even smoked a weed, which is a cigarette. Later on he got into worse trouble and had to hide. He wanted to change and be a different person. While he hid he was scared and frightened and was beginning to think of how he was doing in life, and his thoughts were not very well. After the church incident, he began to change a little.
How do you define a hero? Some may define a hero as someone with great courage and bravery; to others a hero might be a strong warrior and leader who wins battles; others may define a hero as one who uses his brain as much as his brawn to win. In Homer's epic poem, Odyssey, Odysseus is portrayed as a hero by every definition.
In Hinton’s novel Johnny’s death impacts Dally heavily. He virtually becomes a ticking time bomb. Pony describes Johnny as the only thing Dally loved and regarded. His reaction to cope with his grief was to commit suicide. Winston pointed an unloaded gun at the police after robbing a convenience store. His action was responded to with fired shots that give him imminent death. After the incident, seeing Dally lain on the hard pavement, Pony states: “And now he was a dead juvenile delinquent and there wouldn’t be any editorials in his favor. Dally didn’t die a hero”(154). Pony communicates how there wouldn’t be any editorials in the newspaper articulating his heroism, this means that in the eyes of the public Dally Winston died a delinquent. Conversely, Johnny Cade dies a commemorated hero for his gallantry at the church in Windrixville. While in Windrixville Johnny suffers severe burns from a fire that cause him to lose his life. To show he is proud of Johnny before his death Dally says: “‘They’re still writing editorials in the paper. For being a hero and all’”(156). After hearing Dally’s commendation and briefly speaking to Ponyboy, Johnny peacefully dies. He was praised for his bold and courageous actions regarding him risking his life to save some children from a church fire. The headline on the newspaper: “Juvenile Delinquents Turn Heroes” is also evidence of
Dally did something to save one of his gang members too. It was Dally who pulled Johnny out from the burning church. Johnny would have died instantly if Dally did not get Johnny out of the church. When Dally was shot, Ponyboy remembered the things Dally had done for them.
Many would say that the character Ponyboy should be the main hero of our story, but that’s just not the case. Ponyboy was easily pushed down, letting things get to him and letting his emotions take complete control. One push or slap from his brother and he runs away, like a cowardly lion scrambling into the tall grass of the savannah. Johnny, on the other hand, is forced against abuse that no one should be able to put through. Yet he stands on his ground.
If Ponyboy is a hero with sympathy in mind than his friend Johnny is a hero with sympathy in action. The first time Johnny showed his sympathy is when Dally harass the Socs girls, Cherry and Marcia. Johnny bravely stand up to Dally to everyone’s surprise. In the novel, the dialogue of Johnny and Dally showed Johnny’s
A hero is defined as "someone admired for his bravery, great deeds or noble qualities". There are three categories to which all heroes can be classified into, one of which is the anti-hero genre.
There is a hero in us all. A hero is someone who risks their own life to save or do good for others. Ponyboy is a hero because he risked his life to save children from a burning church. Johnny is a hero even though he killed someone it was to save his friend’s life but he also saved children from a burning church. Dally has been arrested, picks fights, and drinks, but when it comes to the people he is close with he has his soft spots for them. All bad boys have a good side.
The first hero that I present to you is Johnny Cade. Johnny’s first act of heroism is in the park the night of the murder. He and Ponyboy are confronted by Bob and Randy as well as three other Socs. The Socs throw him and Ponyboy around until Bob tries to drown Ponyboy in the fountain. Johnny flicks out his switch
The first Greaser that I believe is a hero was Ponyboy because he was mentally tough. An example is when he was still attending school and getting straight A’s. Another heroic act was when he stood by Johnny’s side after Johnny murdered Bob, the Soc. He ran away with him while risking the chance of getting into trouble. In chapter six, there was an important scene where Ponyboy was a real hero by being brave and tough. "I'll get them, don't worry!" I started at a dead run for the church, and the man caught my arm. "I'll get them. You kids stay out! I jerked loose and ran on." (Pg. 78) This was when they heard the children’s screams come from inside the church. Ponyboy ran in the burning church and saved the children without hesitation. These are some reasons why Ponyboy was a hero.
When Johnny and Pony killed Bob, Dally covered for them and had them go hide out in the church until the cops were gone. Also, when Pony and Johnny went into the burning church to save the kids, Dally put out the fire that was on Pony’s back and he attempted to save Johnny. Johnny was heroic because he killed Bob when he was trying to kill him and Pony. Also, he was heroic because he went into the burning church to save the kids. Without Johnny doing that, the kids would’ve been burned to death or gotten seriously hurt. In conclusion, Dall is heroic because he helped Johnny out in the police situation, and Johnny is heroic because he saved the
When we first introduced to Dally by Hinton we learn that as a youth he served time in a New York for a murder charge. This made Dally the most paradoxical person in the story, you never knew if Dally would snap and beat you senseless or if he would protect you. But we soon learn that after witnessing Johnny’s death in the hospital Dally turned out more psychologically unstable. Thus, Dally chose suicide-by-cop. This was because Dally felt responsible for not protecting Johnny in life and felt that perhaps he could protect him in death. Both young men felt hero-worship for each other. Johnny looking to Dally for his devil-may-care attitude and Dally looks up to Johnny for his individuality and
There are many dishonorable people in the world, can there be any honor amongst them? The greasers are a gang of teens/adults that cause trouble everywhere they go. Their enemy, the Socs (another gang, but a lot richer) attacked Johnny and Ponyboy. Johnny used a blade to kill one of the Soc. Ponyboy,Johnny, and Dally were afraid of getting in a lot of trouble, so they escaped from the authorities. While they were hiding, a church containing kids caught on fire. Johnny, Ponyboy, and Dally rescued all the kids and were considered as heros. But that came at a cost, Johnny died of injuries, and Dally suicided because of Johnny’s death. After analyzing the story The Outsiders,I strongly believe that there can be such thing as honor amongst the lawless.
What's a hero? A hero isn't just a person with a super cool suit and fun powers, or a human who beats up villains and saves the world. A hero can be anybody and from the book “The Outsiders” by the author S.E. Hinton. Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally are often described as heroes because of some things that they did in the book. Ponyboy is a hero because he saved children from the inside of a burning church, Johnny is a hero because of his want to help other people. Finally, Dally is a hero by his kind actions towards Johnny. These three Greasers are both brave and courageous.
Over time the definition of a hero has changed. Today’s hero can be defined as a person who is admired for having performed a brave and courageous act. The definition of a hero has had different meanings during different time periods. The classical hero, the medieval hero, the romantic hero, and the modern hero all have different characteristics that define them.
